My daughter is visiting us from London, UK this week. She is not used to all the snow and cold anymore and we have been having a lot lately! I thought these cheerful tulips might warm her up! When the sunshine came through the window, I couldn't resist grabbing a few photos and sharing them with you.

Operasi ini adalah satu permintaan dari sahabat-sahabat fotographer yang mahukan satu operasi bercorakkan sessi/bengkel fotograpi untuk bukan sahaja mengambil gambar flora dan fauna tapi juga untuk bertukar-tukar pendapat dan menimba ilmu photographi dari sahabat-sahabat photographer yang lebih berpengetahuan.

Berdasarkan kepada laporan dari operasi terbaharu yakni pada bulan Nov 2008, keadaan sampah di AT Lansir berada pada paras yang membimbangkan. Oleh itu pihak KHK ingin melakukan satu operasi kecil membersihkan/memulihara keadaan di AT Lansir supaya ianya tidak menjadi lebih parah.

The only species of hummingbird that breeds in eastern North America, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird is found throughout the eastern deciduous and mixed forests. It flies nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico to winter in Central America.

Chin, malar region, around eyes, and auriculars black. Small white spot behind eyes. Chest dull brownish white, changing to darker brownish gray on breast and abdomen; sides and flanks darker and overlaid with bronze-green. Tufts on side of rump white. Undertail coverts brownish gray, edged with dull white.
Female
Back, top of head, and two central tail feathers metallic bronze-green. Three outer tail feathers on each side with broad white tips, black central portions, and bronzy green bases. Wing feathers dark. Small white spot behind eye. Auriculars dusky. Throat and underparts dull grayish white or brownish gray. Flanks and undertail coverts tinged with buffy. Tufts on side of rump white.
Immature
Similar to adult female. Male with dusky streaks on throat and a few metallic red feathers.
Similar Species
Male Black-chinned Hummingbird has purple gorget.
Female hummingbirds are difficult to distinguish.
Sound
Rapid squeaky chipping. Humming sound from wings.
Summer Range
Breeds from central Alberta eastward to Nova Scotia, southward from eastern North Dakota to eastern Texas and Florida.
Winter Range
Winters in southern Mexico and Central America south to Costa Rica.
Habitat
Breeds in mixed woodlands and eastern deciduous forest, gardens, and orchards.
Winters in tropical deciduous forest, tropical dry forests, scrubland, citrus groves, and second growth.
Food
Flower nectar, small insects, and tree sap. Comes to hummingbird feeders.
Foraging
Hovers at flowers and sap wells, catches insects in flight and plucks them from leaves, plucks spiders from their webs.
Nest Type
Nest an open cup placed on top of small tree branch. Made of thistle and dandelion down, held together with spider web and covered on outside with lichens. Placed at 6-50 feet height, average of 10-20 feet.

Depuis le 3 Octobre, plus de 200 familles dorment dans la rue de la Banque pour protester contre l'absence de logements décents. Français ou immigrés en situation régulière, tous travaillent mais vivent dans des conditions déplorables: le plus souvent à l'hôtel, ou dans des appartements minuscules, parfois menacés d'expulsion.
Ce 25 Novembre, une grande fête a été organisée pour célébrer la naissance de 4 bébés parmi les familles de la rue de la Banque depuis le début du campement. Ici, l'un d'entre eux avec sa mère.

Life is still busy.
Tomorrow I'll be turning 27: this afternoon I have taken a longer lunch break and got out shooting.
In the next weeks I'll be dealing mainly with Infrared and T/S shots, spring has come and chlorophyll is slowly reaching its maximum; this helps a lot when shooting IR.
After a poor sunrise session last saturday (no clouds), today I had my opportunity of getting some nice moving clouds against an almost solid black sky.
I'm sorry about my abscence, but I don't think I will be spending that much time on Flickr in the next months; Last year Flickr has been really time consuming, I don't really want that to happen again.

- Added a Soft Light layers to dodge/burn selectively (most of the dodge/burn have been performed in Silver Efex Pro 2);
- Applied an Unsharp Mask to slightly improve contrast;
- Added a level layer to improve contrast;
- Cropped 2:1;
- Resized for the Web (1200px);
- Applied a Noise Ninja layer to smoothen the sky;
- Smart Sharpen + More accurate (On luminosity 'blending mode' with the sky masked off);

A few weeks back, my good flicker friend Tylfe posted a picture of her canning on a rainy day. Cowboy Candy and Salsa. Being the smart ass I am, I requested a jar of each and she was nice enough to send us one of each! OMG the Cowboy Candy is sweet with a nice Texas kick and the salsa is all gone. In fact they were both quickly all gone. Lani was nice enough to send us a recipe for the cowboy candy so Sassy went out and got four pounds oh jalapeno peppers and all the rest of the spices and ingredients. It was our first time canning. A learning experience but we were like crack addicts going for a fix. Sad to say the peppers were VERY mild, Pacific NW, not Texas, so our first batch lacked the kick. But we are definitely going to give it another try, and be more selective with the jalapenos next time, cause it didn't turn out bad at all except for the heat. Thanks again Lani!
Tomorrow's that day....It's been a busy day around the house for a Sunday. The hot tub needed the old. drain and refill. Good for another three months. I'm all about keeping the hot tub ready to roll. I also bit the bullet today and ran up to the store for pants with a larger waist size. Got room to move now... good for another three months....thanks to Lani and her Cowboy Candy. :)

E’ una soleggiata Domenica di Pasqua all’Avana, passeggio per il centro quando vengo colto da una musica in lontananza. Pian piano questa si fa sempre più vicina: sono un gruppo di trampolieri mascherati e musicisti che improvvisano armonie dal ritmo latino-americano… con sé una folla di gente che balla e che aumenta, metro dopo metro, al loro passaggio. Unitomi alla “processione” mi accorgo di essere entrato in un altro mondo, come “Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie” noto persone tutte colorate che ridono, ballano, mi sorridono e mi fanno cenno di immergermi in quel baccanale, come ci fossero barriere invisibili tra lì e la calma del pomeriggio in città. Tra tutti, la prima persona che noto è il bimbo sulla foto, che correndo da un capo all’altro della folla, insieme ad altri compagni, si gode il suo “di’ di festa”.

The Casa Lleó-Morera is a building designed by noted modernisme architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, located at Passeig de Gràcia 35 in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The building is located on the corner with Carrer del Consell de Cent, and is one of the three important buildings of the Illa de la Discòrdia. The building was originally constructed in 1864, and was renovated beginning in 1902.
Unlike many buildings constructed at the time, it was not named for its owner; rather it is named from the lions (lleó) and mulberry trees (morera) motifs in the decorations. Domènech i Montaner worked with sculptor Eusebi Arnau, Antoni Serra i Fiter for the ceramics, Lluís Brú and Mario Maragliano for the mosaics and Gaspar Homar for decoration and furniture to make the complete work.

CASTELLANO
La Casa Lleó Morera, es un proyecto del año 1902, del arquitecto Lluís Domènech i Montaner, sobre una reforma de la antigua casa Rocamora del año 1864, situada en el Paseo de Gracia, nº 35 de Barcelona. Consiguió en 1906 el primer premio de Arquitectura otorgado por el Ayuntamiento.
Una magnífica obra modernista que según Lluís Permanyer, la califica de un Palau de la Música Catalana a escala reducida.
En su decoración, como era habitual en la época modernista, participaron numerosos artesanos, Mario Maragaliano y Lluís Bru en mosaicos, Antoni Serra i Fiter en cerámica, Antoni Rigalt i Blanch en vitrales y Gaspar Homar y Josep Pey en mobiliario interior.
La fachada y la planta baja estaban decoradas con grandes y variados ornamentos modernistas, siendo unas esculturas de Eusebi Arnau, las más llamativas, representaban dos parejas de figuras femeninas sosteniendo unas vasijas, enmarcando la entrada con doble juego de columnas pareadas de mármol rosa, en la base de la tribuna del primer piso aparecían un grupo de cabezas femeninas. Todo esto se destruyó cuando se realizaron unas obras para adecuación de la planta baja como tienda. Las esculturas fueron destrozadas y las cabezas las recuperó el gerente de la tienda que más tarde las vendió a Salvador Dalí que las emplazó en el muro del patio de su Teatro-Museo de Figueras.
El arquitecto Oscar Tusquets, a mediados de los años ochenta del siglo XX, se encargó de la restauración del resto del edificio, restituyendo los pináculos y el templete de la cornisa de la parte superior del edificio, que había sufrido graves destrozos por el fuego de ametralladoras durante la guerra civil española de 1936. En 1992 se llevó a cabo una nueva restauración con la recuperación de elementos arquitectónicos de la fachada.
Por ser de propiedad privada, dicha casa no puede visitarse interiormente.
during the wee hours this morning, our water heater killed itself and the sides busted open...our entire garage and laundray room was flooded...the scary part was the laundry room is where Ya-Ya and Ki'Nicky sleep but luckily they're okay, their soft cushy beds absorbed the water which was great because the water was hot :(
i'm really happy they weren't harmed because none of us knew this happned until around 9:30am this morning...actually that's not true, my dad heard the dogs baking and ignored them because he didn't know what happened BUT he blames me for not knowing since my room is closer though i didn't hear the dogs at all...once i'm asleep, i'm gone...still, i love being blamed for things way out of my control...
so we spent the day getting it repaired (our landlord covered the fees thank you bob saget) and we have hot water again wheee!
i also spent the day trying to understand how to run a payroll when i never have before...ugh, not fun and very headache inducing...
anyway, i'm still backed up on respdoning to people and photos which means i suck...but i will get to it so i can um...unsuck?
oh for my photo i was bored and was thinking about The Grudge and Shutter and combined the two, my own way :D my friend Jacki woke me up early this morning with a text message, it was Samara from The Ring coming at you and i screamed in my half-asleep state...lovely...i have such lovely friends...

An early morning mist rises off Beardy Waters just north of Glen Innes as the suns rays start to find their way through the trees and light up the countryside.
Taken during the 1200kms for Kids Charity Bike Ride... as the riders braved the icy air, I stopped to grab some of the pretty countryside in this part of the world.
The Beardy Waters is a river, which is about 70 kilometres (43 mi) in length, in the Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia.
The Beardy Waters rises near Ben Lomond Mountain south of Glen Innes in the New England region. It flows north to the east of Glen Innes, New South Wales and then north-west to where it joins the Severn River (New South Wales) below Rangers Road.
The name of the river derives from two bearded stockmen who were among the first European settlers of the district through which the river flows. The river was previously known as: Maybole Creek, The Beardy Water, Beardy River and The Beardy Waters.
A weir construction across the Beardy Waters was commenced in October 1930 after a grant of ₤5,500 was made available for the work. This money was granted to pay men working on unemployment relief. Completed in July 1932 at a cost of ₤10,847 it has a capacity of 100 million imperial gallons (450,000 m3) with the flood gates closed.

The Celtic St Cynidr founded the Christian Community in Cantref in the Fourth Century. The Normans later re-dedicated the church to St Mary.
Stand on top of Pen-y-Fan (the highest peak in South Wales), and you are also at the highest point in the Parish of Cantref.
Look to the North and you will see the scattered hill farms that make up this ancient community.
On a good day, you might just pick out the Cantref Parish Church.
St Mary's church lies in the small village of Cantref some 3km to the south-east of Brecon. The church is a 19thC structure but the tower is earlier, thought to be around 1600 in date. It contains little of pre-Victorian origin, the only medieval furnishing being a font of perhaps 12thC date. It is set in a rectilinear churchyard containing a fairly standard collection of memorials.
Tower claimed to be very early 17thC: architecturally it is undiagnostic but is certainly earlier than the nave. The latter together with the chancel and porch were built in 1829 and renovated in 1867, the only trace of the earlier church being a projecting foundation course at the east end.

History
Nothing is known of the origin and early history of the church.
Cantref Church is in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon, in the community of Llanfrynach in the county of Powys. It is located at Ordnance Survey national grid reference SO0564925460.
The church is recorded in the CPAT Historic Environment Record as number 16734 and this number should be quoted in all correspondence.
The Episcopal Register of St Davids refers to the church at Cantref in 1402, but there are no references in the Taxatios of the 13thC. The Valor Ecclesiasticus of 1535 valued 'Cantreff' at œ9 9s 7d.
The church was rebuilt in 1829, and altered in 1867 by C. Buckeridge.Architecture
Cantref church consists of a west tower, a nave and chancel in one, and a north porch near the north-west angle of the nave. The church is aligned on an east-north-east/west-south-west axis, but for descriptive purposes 'ecclesiastical east' is adopted here.
Fabrics: 'A' consists of regularly cut blocks and slabs of red and grey sandstone, small to medium in size, irregularly coursed. 'B' is a variation on 'A', but is mainly tabular sandstone, predominantly maroon-red in colour.
Roofs: sandstone tiles with ceramic ridge tiles. Tower has modern slates.
Drainage: no evidence of drains running beside church walls.
Exterior
Porch. General. Fabric 'A'. Set on chamfered plinth.
North wall: two-centred arch, stopped chamfers, hoodmoulding, all in sandstone.
East and west walls: plain.
Nave and chancel. General. Treated as one unit externally. All in Fabric 'A'; chamfered plinth at c.0.3m (cf porch), but because of natural ground slope it is stepped down at the nave/chancel interface; ashlar quoins.
North wall: two single-light windows and two double-light windows all in yellow sandstone, and consisting of trefoiled lancets. One stepped buttress marking the nave/chancel divide; a second small buttress marks the north-west corner of the nave where it meets the tower.
East wall: the fabric contains some irregularities which might denote re-used masonry, and at the base of the wall below the chamfered plinth is a flat plinth projecting 0.2m with a maximum height of 0.3m; it is on the same alignment and is likely to be a relic of the earlier church. One three-light window, again trefoiled lancets and a hoodmoulding, with a relieving arch over.
South wall: similar to north wall but an extra two-light window at the west end opposite the porch. Also at the west end the wall face of the nave runs on for a short distance in front of the tower wall face. This is a Victorian feature matching the buttress on the north side, but it does appear to encapsulate an earlier buttress at a lower level.
Tower. General. Fabric 'B', crudely pointed in a dull grey mortar so that it appears more like a coat of plaster across the wall faces. Plinth at base at a height of c.0.5m topped by an angular string-course. Uppermost courses of tower may have been rebuilt. Pyramidal roof. Thought to date from c.1600.
North wall: low, shallow buttress at north-east corner as mentioned above (under nave). Rectangular slit window at ground floor level above plinth, chamfered and with a projecting hood over the top. A second similar slit window is set at a higher level (perhaps c.4-5m), and above this a broader louvred window of two lights for the belfry stage, lacking a projecting hood, and the jambs showing considerable difference in weathering.
East wall: nave roof rises to just below belfry level; two-light louvred window for belfry with replacement mullion.
South wall: windows as north wall, except for belfry which has a single light, the lintel terminating in stop-like blocks.
West wall: lower windows as north wall; belfry window also similar but has a flat, projecting stone hood; one jamb replaced.
Interior
Porch. General. Tiled floor. Simple roof with collars.
East and west walls:- plain.
South wall: two-centred arch, stopped chamfers, sandstone dressings. 19thC.
Nave and chancel. General. Tiled floors, largely carpet covered; wooden boards beneath seating. Walls plastered and whitewashed. Roof of five bays with arch-braced trusses springing from corbels and having cusped scissor struts above. Chancel arch consists of cast iron pillars against the outer walls with floriate capitals supporting a main truss. 19thC wall brasses in chancel.
South wall: slab in a window embrasure records the rebuilding of 1829.
West wall: broad but low two-centred arched doorway with heavy sandstone jambs and dressings gives access to the tower.
Tower. General. Flagged floor with at least five grave slabs re-used. South and north wall faces inset to take joists at first floor level. Walls whitewashed. Deeply splayed windows.
Churchyard
The churchyard is pentagonal in shape, the church lying near to its centre. A short distance to the south-east is Afon Cynrig and the churchyard is set on the edge of its valley. It is well maintained and still used for burial.
Boundary: On the north side above the road the slight internal embankment is fronted by a revetment wall and there is an external drop of perhaps 1.5m. To the north-west the wall continues but the external drop is no more than 0.5m, and on the south-west and south-east the wall is in a poor state of repair and is reinforced by a wire fence; again the drop is little more than 0.5m. On this basis Cantref cannot be called a raised churchyard, the drop on the north probably resulting from the erosion of the adjacent roadway.
Monuments: these are well spread on the north side, with late 18thC graves on both sides of the path to the porch (Griffiths of RCAHMW counted 12 in all). There is little obvious burial on the south, west and east sides of the church.
Furniture: none.

Ancillary features: metal gates give entry from the north with a tarmac path to the porch. There are also small wooden gates on the north-west and north-east sides.
Vegetation: an avenue of yews lead to the church from the main gate and several others are dotted around, one on the previously mentioned scarp to the east of the church.

Solamente aclarar que la liebre estaba viva, je. Era mi mascota. Pobrecita... menos mal que un día me decidí a soltarla en el monte y, por lo tanto, así pudiera ser libre. Como véis la fotografía es bastante antigua y la hizo mi madre con su reflex. El lugar de la fotogradí es mi casita del pueblo (Valdeavellano).
A veces, que bonito es mirar hacia atrás y buscar entre los recuerdos...

The Red Kite (Milvus milvus) is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles, buzzards and harriers. The species is currently endemic to the Western Palearctic region in Europe and northwest Africa, though formerly also occurred just outside in northern Iran. It is a rare species which is resident in the milder parts of its range in western Europe and northwest Africa, but birds from northeastern and central Europe winter further south and west, reaching south to Turkey. Vagrants have reached north to Finland and south to Israel and Libya.

El milano real es una de las rapaces más frecuentes en Europa; similar en aspecto al milano negro, es inconfundible su cabeza de color gris plateado y su silueta.
Los ejemplares que anidan en el Norte de Europa se desplazan al sur para invernar; algunos de ellos atravesarán el Estrecho hasta llegar al Norte de África. Su distribución llega hasta Canarias y las Islas de Cabo Verde.
El Milano Real tiene una longitud de 60 a 65 centímetros, una envergadura de alas de casi dos metros (190 centímetros) y un peso que oscila, desde los 900 gramos a los 1.200 gramos de peso.
Se diferencia fácilmente del Milano Negro, que es totalmente oscuro.

Eine Spektralfarbe ist jener Farbeindruck, der durch monochromatisches Licht im sichtbaren Teil des Lichtspektrums entsteht. Sie ist in jedem Farbton die intensivste, mithin reine Farbe.
Das Spektrum (als Begriff der Farblehre) ist die Gesamtheit aller Linien und Banden bestimmter Frequenz. „Weißes Licht“ ist im physikalischen Sinne (und praktisch kaum realisierbar) ein aus allen Wellenlängen des sichtbaren Spektralbereichs energiegleich gemischtes Licht. Meist versteht man darunter Tageslicht (Sonnenlicht) sowie die Normlichtarten mit ihren unterschiedlichen Farbtemperaturen. Die von einer energiegleichen Lichtquelle erzeugte Farbempfindung heißt exakterweise „unbunt“.
Durch Brechung am optischen Prisma, durch Beugung an Gittern oder in Interferenz gelingt es, "weißes Licht" in (einzelne) Spektralfarben zu zerlegen. Spektralfarben als monochromatisches Licht können bei geeigneten Emissionsvorgängen auch direkt entstehen (Natriumdampflampe, Laser).
Newton stellte diesen Sachverhalt in seinen Opticks dar, nach ihm sind es die sieben Spektralfarben: Rot, Orange, Gelb, Grün, Blau, Indigo, Violett. Für Goethe dagegen war das "weiße Licht" das Ursächliche.
Eine besondere Bedeutung kommt der "weißen Strahlung", also der energiegleichen Strahlung in der Photometrie und verwandten Gebieten zu. Hier ist es wichtig in den notwendigen (betrachteten) Wellenlängenintervallen diese Eigenschaft zu erreichen. Für die Messung der Augenempfindlichkeitskurve ist neben der energiegleichen Strahlung sogar eine quantenintensitätsgleiche Strahlung erforderlich. Solche Messungen dienen der Ableitung von Normspektralfarbwerten.
Die Zapfenzellen in der menschlichen Netzhaut (sowie auch anderer Lebewesen) besitzen je nach Typ unterschiedliche Empfindlichkeitsspektren, die bestimmte Bereiche des empfangenen Lichtspektrums abdecken. Die Verarbeitung der von den Zapfen stammenden Signale wandelt die empfangenen Spektren in wahrgenommene Farben um. Da die Gewichtung der Spektralanteile von den Wahrnehmungsbereichen der Zapfentypen abhängt, ist auch die Farbwahrnehmung direkt davon abhängig. Wird etwa von LEDs ein nahezu monochromatisches Licht dargeboten, so wird diese Lichtfarbe als sehr rein (gesättigt) und hell wahrgenommen, also als Spektralfarbe. Im Falle des menschlichen Sehens gibt es kein Lichtspektrum, das nur einen einzigen Zapfentyp reizt. Da sich die Bereiche der Zapfentypen überschneiden, werden immer mehrere Typen gleichzeitig angesprochen.
Der Spektralfarbenzug nach CIE wird in der Normfarbtafel mit der Purpurgeraden ergänzt, die allerdings Mischfarben enthält. Physikalisch gibt es für Purpurtöne keine zugehörigen Spektralfarben. Diese werden nur bei gemischter Wahrnehmung von kurz- und langwelligen Licht gesehen. Im CIE-Diagramm entspricht den Purpurtönen mit höchster Sättigung diese Purpurgerade. Prinzipiell sind alle nicht spektralen Farben Mischfarben.
Die menschliche Farbwahrnehmung bei Tagessehen (Photopisches Sehen) ist auf drei Rezeptortypen für kurze, mittlere und lange Wellenlängen begrenzt. Manche Tiere, vor allem Vögel, wie die Tauben, besitzen vier Farbrezeptoren. Dadurch können sie mehr Farbvarianten und Farbarten als ein Mensch unterscheiden. Andere Tierarten, wie Hunde, besitzen nur zwei Typen von Farbrezeptoren. Das führt zu einem kleineren Umfang an unterscheidbaren Farbtönen.
Am langwelligen roten Ende des sichtbaren Spektrums grenzt der Bereich des unsichtbaren infraroten Lichtes an. Durch den stetigen Übergang in der Empfindlichkeit auf reizende Wellenlängen ist diese Grenze fließend (zwischen 720 nm und 830 nm) und unterliegt individuellen Schwankungen. Dies wird im Wesentlichen durch den chemischen Aufbau des Rhodopsins (Sehpurpur) bestimmt. Der wahrgenommene Farbton ändert sich ab 650 nm nur geringfügig.
Der infrarote Bereich des Spektrums wird als Wärmestrahlung bezeichnet, obwohl jede absorbierte elektromagnetische Strahlung ihr Energieäquivalent als Wärme erzeugt, egal ob es sich um längstwellige Radiostrahlung oder um harte (sehr kurzwellige) Gammastrahlung handelt. Die Wärmewirkung von Infrarot- und Radiostrahlung wird von Menschen direkt durch andere Rezeptoren wahrgenommen. Die Eindringtiefe der Strahlung wiederum ist wellenlängenabhängig. Nahe Infrarotstrahlung dringt nur wenige Millimeter in den Körper ein, Radiostrahlung wird im gesamten Körper umgesetzt. Dieser Effekt wird bei der Kurzwellenbestrahlung genutzt, um innere Organe zu erwärmen.
Am kurzwelligen violetten Ende des sichtbaren Spektrums, bei Wellenlängen ab etwa 380 nm und kleiner, grenzt der Bereich des ultravioletten Lichtes an. Diese Wellenlängen rufen keine Reizung der menschlichen Rezeptoren hervor, deshalb ist ultraviolettes Licht unsichtbar. Aus dem gleichen Grund wie am infraroten Ende des Lichtspektrums ist die Sichtbarkeit der Strahlung zwischen 360 nm und 410 nm individuell und altersbedingt Schwankungen unterlegen, noch stärker als im infrarot-nahen Bereich. Die Pigmentierung der Hornhaut spielt hier eine große Rolle. Außerdem verfärbt sich mit zunehmendem Alter die Linse gelblich, wodurch kurzwelliges Licht stärker gefiltert wird.
Bei Operationen am grauen Star ist nach Entfernung der getrübten Linse die Filterwirkung beseitigt (aphakisches Sehen), was zu einer ausgeprägten Verbesserung der Wahrnehmung kurzer Wellenlängen führt. Nach Einsetzen der Kunststofflinse ist dieser besondere Effekt wieder aufgehoben.

Cuando hace aproximadamente un mes, comencé a editar el material de la Semana Santa 2008, tristemente me encontré con esta fotografía, que me hizo recordar con amargura el lamentable fallecimiento de Oscar Raúl Rodrigo, acontecido pocos días después de haberle sido hecha esta foto, con su pequeña en brazos, durante la celebración de la Procesión del Domingo de Rerrurrección.
Y al mirar la foto, los ojos de la niña se me clavaron como dardos en el alma por la profunda tristeza que me ocasionó el verla tan feliz y despreocupada en los brazos de su padre, ajena a lo que el trágico destino le tenía deparado a su familia. Quiere ser esta humilde foto un pequeño homenaje a Oscar Raúl, y a su familia en general, y un pequeño regalo para su preciosa hija, ya que en en la imagen se intuye todo el cariño de su padre hacia ella.

His research and teaching relates to Jewish life in the past and present. Within this general horizon, the Shoah is a prominent, but not the only, focus of his interests. The respective fields of research - including medicine in particular - are analysed on the basis of biographical close-ups and placed in their political and social contexts. An important aspect of his work is the vivid communication of scientific findings to a wider audience, be it through lectures or publications.

Levant Mine is located 2 miles north of St.Just and is bounded to the east by Geevor Mine, to the west by Wheal Unity and to the south by Spearn Moor and Spearn Consols mines. Levant appears as a mine in its own right on maps dating from 1748 on and consists of an amalgamation of several smaller and more ancient concerns. Their names such as Boscregan and Unity live on as shaft names. What we would consider today as modern Levant was formed in about 1820 by a group of investors - known in the trade as 'mining adventurers', who agreed to raise the sum of £400 by purchasing 80 shares at £5 each.
Two of the main investors in the company were Lewis Charles Daubuz and Mr John Batten. Their leadership along with some excellent prospecting helped the company to locate a large copper deposit at a depth of 20 fathoms (120 feet) below the surface. The adventurers rapidly got a handsome return on their investment and further exploratory work was carried out. From 1835 Levant began raising tin and was soon to become an important tin producer too. In the period 1820 to 1930 Levant produced over 130,000 tons of copper ore of high (10%) grade and 24,000 tons of black tin. In 1912 5,278 ounces of silver and 4 ounces of gold were also sold.
Levant swallowed up the nearby mine of Spearne Consols - now known as Higher Bal. Shafts were opened up at Angwin's shaft, Tresize's shaft, Goldsworthy's shaft and Batten's shaft. The underground workings of Levant extended out under the sea but in general due to the bedrock being the impervious greenstone there were very few problems with flooding.
A 'man engine' was installed on Daubuz's shaft in 1856 reached by a tunnel from the Miner's Dry. The shaft subsequently became known as engine Shaft one of only a dozen or so installed in Cornish mines. The journey time from surface to work place was radically reduced from over an hour to less than half an hour in most cases. The workers arriving fresher and more ready for work into the bargain. Along with all the new shafts and the installation of the man engine all the usual associated surface buildings sprang up around the site - stamps, both Cornish stamps and Californian stamps types; a calciner for roasting the ore and a mill area containing rag frames and buddles.
Levant is quite unusual amongst Cornish mines in one respect as it did use pit ponies for a short time from 1893 to tram the ore on the main 278 fathom (below adit) tramming level some 1600 feet underground. Levant is also remembered for the Levant Mine Disaster in October 1919. The second worst loss of life underground in a Cornish mine. 31 men were lost when the man engine snapped and fell down through the shaft.
Metamorphosis is the scientific name for the change of an ungainly, crawling caterpillar into a delicate, flying butterfly. The word is from a Greek word meaning "transformed." Metamorphosis occurs not only in butterflies but also in thousands of insect and amphibian species. Christians are also transformed (metamorphosed) when they go to heaven.
This transformation is even more spectacular then that of butterflies. It will happen when we are resurrected from the dead to be with Christ in heaven. When a person becomes a Christian, a follower of Christ, that person will show a change in his life style here on earth, and then the complete transformation will happen in the future when Jesus comes to claim His own.
Some who call themselves Christian and expect to go to heaven will not get there. This is very sad and they are to be greatly pitied for they are like the caterpillars who have parasites or diseases and die before becoming a butterfly. Your answer to "Who is Jesus?" determines if you will go to heaven and be transformed.

Die Insel Neuwerk
Die Insel NEUWERK gehört zur Stadt Hamburg, Verwaltungsbezirk Hamburg-Mitte. Ihr Inselwart ist Volker Griebel , der der Verbindungsmann zwischen den ca. 40 Personen der Inselbevölkerung und dem Bezirk ist.
Die Insel Neuwerk liegt nordwestlich von Cuxhaven. Man erreicht sie entweder mit dem meistens nur einmal am Tag fahrenden Schiff oder während der Ebbe zu Fuß bzw. mit dem Wattwagen.
Das imposanteste Bauwerk der Insel, übrigens Hamburg ältestes, ist der Leuchtturm aus dem Jahre 1310.
Auf Neuwerk gibt es zwei Schullandheime, ein Zeltlager, mehrere Zeltmöglichkeiten, eine Schule, mehrere Pensionen und Hotels und ein Bernsteinmuseum. Auf dem "Friedhof der Namenlosen" wurden früher die namenlosen Seefahrer begraben, die die Flut bei Neuwerk an Land spühlte. Seit 1990 gehört Neuwerk mit dem umliegenden Watt und seinen Inseln Scharhörn und Nigehörn zum Nationalpark Hamburgisches Wattenmeer. Aus diesem Grund ist es auch für viele Natur- und Vogelliebhaber ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel.

Oh, how I admire these marvelously engineered, composed and exposed hi-tech Strobist shots, such as of a floating CFL shining brightly without being mated to a socket or any wires visible. For example, this floating CFL, the Strobist explanation and the link to the article by David Hobby were an inspiration to try a lo-tech version.

Bulb is a 110V 5W as bought, with a red coating and old-fashioned tungsten filament. Although the thread and contact are dark and hard to see in this shot, no wires are attached to it. No photo editing, simply not needed. This is the image straight out of the camera, just cropped. No fancy floating either, this bulb just rests on the dark backdrop inside my small lightbox that is illuminated by a rainy day cloudy sky through the window shade pulled up about a hand wide. No flash used, no snooting. Why then Strobist? Well, the creative spirit of sharing explanations may have to do with it.
Before I bluntly share, can you guess how I lighted up that bulb? It is without wiring, without building an LED into it, with neither radio frequency transmission nor microwave energy, and not resorting to magic hands energy or wishful positive thinking, either.

We did the shoot with the leaf as well but it was giving me trouble so I switched out for the lighter more versital D90. but I did want to put up some of the pictures that I took with the leaf. This is just an outline I will be posting pictures as the tattoo progresses.

Atlanta is a coke town obviously. its made here, the world of Coca-Cola factory is here...etc... but iv always liked pepsi better. i might nix the whole soda thing for a couple months to drop some pounds... they say you can lose 10 in a month just by cutting out soda... even diet, which is all i drink.

This ancestral home is on Riverside in Saint-Lambert. It faces the Seaway Park, the St-Lawrence River, Parc Jean-Drapeau on two islands, and downtown Montréal with the Mont-Royal on the island of Montréal. The house and the large tree on the left are on the corner where my former street ends (seen behind the tree).
Cette maison ancestrale est située sur Riverside à Saint-Lambert. Elle fait face au parc de la Voie-Maritime, du parc Jean-Drapeau sur deux îles, et du centre-ville de Montréal avec le Mont-Royal sur l'île de Montréal.. La maison et le gros arbre à la gauche, sont au coin où termine mon ancienne rue (vue derrière l'arbre).

Along with PS Sandown, Ryde was the first Southern Railway steamer to have triple expansion engines fitted. In appearance, she was a smaller version of the Caledonian Steam Packet Co's Caledonia. Ryde was built to replace the ageing Duchess of Norfolk and was furnished to a high standard for the time. She was a two class ship, "saloon class" and "third class". She had a good observation lounge on her promenade deck and a large general saloon on her main deck. She also had a tea room, ladies room, smoking room and a 54 seater restaurant. Built for the Portsmouth to Ryde service, she operated year round in the pre war years. After the war she continued to operate as a ferry until she was replaced by the new motor vessels, being eventually withdrawn after the 1969 season. She was moved to a mud berth at the Binfield Marina on the Isle of Wight and was renamed Ryde Queen. Initially she was used as a marina clubhouse and later she became a discotheque. She remains there but is in a very sorry state and has been subject to neglect and vandalism. Both her paddle boxes have now been destroyed and her future looks bleak.

Tai O (traditional Chinese: 大澳) is a fishing town, partly located on an island of the same name, on the western side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong.
History
Nearby archaeological sites date back to the Stone Age, but permanent, and verifiable, human settlement here is only three centuries old. Stories that would be impossible to substantiate have Tai O as the base of many smuggling and piracy operations, the inlets of the river providing excellent protection from the weather and a hiding place. In early 16th century, Tai O was once occupied shortly by Portuguese during Battle of Tãmão. At nearby Fan Lau, a fort was built in 1729 to protect shipping on the Pearl River. Smuggling of guns, tobacco, drugs and people remains a documented illegal activity both into and out of mainland China.
When the British came to Hong Kong, Tai O was known as a Tanka village. During and after the Chinese Civil War, Tai O became a primary entrypoint for illegal immigration for those escaping from the People's Republic of China. Some of these immigrants, mostly Han Chinese, stayed in Tai O, and Tai O attracted people from other Hong Kong ethnic groups, including Hoklo (Hokkien) and Hakka.
Reclamation at Tai OCurrently the fishing lifestyle is dying out. While many residents continue to fish, it barely provides a subsistence income. There is a public school on the island and most young people move away when they come of age. In 2000 a large fire broke out destroying many residences. The village is now mostly squatters huts and dilapidated stilt houses.
Tourism
Also known as the "Venice of Hong Kong", Tai O is also a hot tourist spot for both foreigners and residents of other parts of Hong Kong, despite damage by a fire in July 2000. The pang uk, a kind of stilt house, built right over the waterway are still quite scenic. A rope bridge tended by local women used to be quite popular with visitors, but it has been replaced with a steel pedestrian bridge.
The traditional salted fish and shrimp paste and storefronts at Tai O. For a small fee, some residents will take tourists out on their boats along the river and for short jaunts into the sea. Many tourists come to Tai O specifically to take these trips to see Chinese white dolphins. It is also a good place to see the sunset.

Pour de petits honoraires, quelques résidants prendront des touristes sur leurs bateaux le long du fleuve et pour des promenades courtes dans la mer. Beaucoup de touristes viennent à Tai O spécifiquement pour prendre ces voyages pour voir des dauphins blanc chinois. C'est également un bon endroit pour voir le coucher du soleil.

Et voilà! Mystery revealed. This young 15yr old model was very easy to work with. As you can see, she has her own interesting style with the multi-coloured shoe laces, piercings, etc.
UPDATE SEPT 29: After much searching, I finally connected with this mystery model.
Her name is Chloe, and she's actually 17!
UPDATE SEPT 30: I stand corrected. She is in fact 15 though the various online personas I stumbled across indicate otherwise; this is due to age restrictions on some sites she tells me.

Not related to this photo, but I wanted to tell you about an interesting search that we were called out on, last night. It was for a 13-year old girl that had overdosed on her medications for bi-polar disease. We were unable to locate her, but we think that we covered the area around her house well and are fairly confident that she is not there.
The interesting part that I wanted to share is how we used technology to aid us in a thorough search. Coincidentally, I just happened to be playing with www.local.live.com to try to figure out where this photo, that my friend Denise had posted, was shot, when we got the call from the San Diego Police Department, and that is the tool we used on the search.
We had recently decided to keep Jan's laptop at the ready, so we scooped it up on the way out the door, and set it up when we arrived on scene. I plugged in our "air card", a device that lets us access the Internet, using regular cell phone connections, but we didn't need it, because there were about half a dozen wireless access points (which are much faster) available and the first one I tried was open, so I used that. As a side note, if you use a wireless router in your home, I urge you to be sure that you protect it, so that no one else can access it, without the key, because they can get into your computer if you don't. The laptop turned out to be an invaluable tool, because with the clarity that was available, we could easily see the open space around the house that the girl went missing from and plan where to send the teams, as well as debrief them when they returned, since they could just point to the areas that they covered.
Besides the laptop, we used the GPS units in our cars to give us spoken turn by turn directions to the house, handheld GPS to track where the teams had been (which could have been uploaded into the laptop to provide a better visual picture, had we needed that), commercial radios that were provided by a grant from a local philanthropic group, and cell phones to communicate with each other. Technology certainly made our jobs easier and enabled us to search safer and more efficiently.
[Update] The girl was found about an hour after we left. Fortunately, she was not in our search area.

This is Pico. For years we tried to keep this cat confined to the boundaries of our home, with the occasional venture to the screened porch. After several ripped screens and a destroyed cat hutch; we finally gave up the fight and let this cat be free. When my daughter was born he went on hiatis for two weeks. He now acts like a moody teenager with a driver's license, staying out all night and coming home to raid the fridge and sleep all day. I can't blame him, I was young once too!

Parc Natural del Garraf - Jafra, Barcelona (Spain).

Garraf is a place little documented, and for that reason it is surrounded by mystery and legend.
Jafra, a deserted and ruinous town, is named already in 1139, and in 1332 a castle is mentioned. Apparently in 14th century all the inhabitants died due to the Black Death epidemic, although shortly after it became to populate, and in 1432 it became to open the parish. In 17th century the barons of Jafra named a mayor (1683) and recovered the church, dedicated to Santa Maria (1688). In 1819 Jafra lost its last mayor and it joined to the town of Olivella (the parishes already were tie). The culture of the vine made increase the population during 17th century. In 1820 there were 83 inhabitants, and in 1850 the church was recovered again. The plague of phylloxera of end of 19th century caused the desertion of lands, and in 1960 they were left only 19 inhabitants, scattered by farms of the environs.
At the moment only it is left still on the church (in restoration), the walls of rectory and the house of the barons, and those of the house of the servants. About the cemetery only left some walls and two great cypresses, and by the environs it has scattered ruins of which they could be other small houses.
When I arrived at the entrance of the church I was a little rare, with a discomfort sensation, of not feeling very at ease in this place, so I did not entertain myself in making many photos. I do not know why, but I had desire to go away there. And it was later, already in house, when documenting about the place I found the explanation of those strange sensations.
Jafra is considered damn town, and it is object of investigation by different parapsychology studious groups. It comments that at night lights have been seen roam by the zone, and in the house of the servants, called “the enchanted house” have been poltergeist phenomena, like blows, sudden changes of temperature, voices and until some appearance. Here they have been possible to record psychophonies. Also it comments that years ago a boy fell into a well near the cemetery and died drowned, and since it have been heard moans and it has been believed to see a figure roam near the cypresses of the cemetery.
I do not believe in these things, but the strange sensations that I experimented there are well certain...

El Garraf es un lugar poco documentado, y por ello está rodeado de misterio y de leyenda.
Jafra, un poblado abandonado y ruinoso, ya es nombrado en el año 1139, y en 1332 se menciona un castillo. Por lo visto en el siglo XIV murieron todos los habitantes debido a la epidemia de peste, aunque poco después se volvió a poblar, y en 1432 se volvió a abrir la parroquia. En el siglo XVII los barones de Jafra nombraron un alcalde (1683) y restauraron la iglesia, dedicada a Santa María (1688). En 1819 Jafra perdió su último alcalde y se incorporó al pueblo de Olivella (las parroquias ya estaban vinculadas). El cultivo de la viña hizo aumentar la población durante el siglo XVII. En 1820 había 83 habitantes, y en 1850 se restauró nuevamente la iglesia. La plaga de filoxera de finales del siglo XIX provocó el abandono de las tierras, y en 1960 quedaban tan solo 19 habitantes, diseminados por las masías de los alrededores.
Actualmente sólo queda en pie la iglesia (en restauración), los muros de la rectoría y de la casa de los barones, y los de la casa de los criados. Del cementerio apenas quedan unos muros y dos grandes cipreses, y por los alrededores hay diseminadas ruinas de lo que podrían ser otras casas pequeñas.
Cuando llegué a la entrada de la iglesia me encontré un poco raro, con una sensación de incomodidad, de no sentirme muy a gusto en el lugar, así que no me entretuve en hacer muchas fotos. No sé por qué, pero tenía ganas de marchar de allí. Y fue después, ya en casa, cuando documentándome acerca del lugar encontré la explicación a esas extrañas sensaciones.
Por lo visto Jafra es considerado un pueblo maldito, y es objeto de investigación por parte de diferentes grupos estudiosos de parapsicología. Se comenta que de noche se han visto luces merodear por la zona, y en la casa de los criados, llamada "la casa encantada" ha habido fenómenos poltergeist, como golpes, cambios súbitos de temperatura, voces y hasta alguna aparición. En ella se han podido grabar psicofonías. También se comenta que hace años cayó un niño a un pozo cerca del cementerio y murió ahogado, y desde entonces se han oído lamentos y se ha creído ver una figura merodear cerca de los cipreses del cementerio.
Yo no creo en estas cosas, pero las extrañas sensaciones que experimenté allí son bien ciertas...

When I first saw Sonya the morning of the shoot, she had a classic straight hairstyle and I looked forward to shooting her. However, after I'd shot with a few models, and by the time she was ready to shoot with me, her hair had gone all wild & frizzy. The sudden appearance of the afro caused me to take a few steps back in shock. Though a bit reluctant at first, I ultimately reconciled and we agreed to shoot. Now, after shooting her in this "larger than life" hairstyle I can't imagine shooting her any other way. :-)
The one thing that struck me about Sonya was her effortless abilities to switch poses rather fluidly, practically every few seconds. I asked her if she had been modelling for 20 years because she seemed to have so much experience, not realizing that not only was she not even 20 years old, but she'd barely modelled before. Sonya every so sweetly just smiled in reply. I knew we were in for a treat!
These first shots were taken in the rear of the establishment. Pretty soon I knew we had to head into the heart of the graffiti mecca if she was to have a chance to spread her wings and fly...hang to your seats! :-0

HISTORY OF CHOCOLATE:
The tasty secret of the cacao (kah KOW) tree was discovered 2,000 years ago in the tropical rainforests of the Americas. The pods of this tree contain seeds that can be processed into chocolate. The story of how chocolate grew from a local Mesoamerican beverage into a global sweet encompasses many cultures and continents.
The first people known to have made chocolate were the ancient cultures of Mexico and Central America. These people, including the Maya and Aztec, mixed ground cacao seeds with various seasonings to make a spicy, frothy drink.
Later, the Spanish conquistadors brought the seeds back home to Spain, where new recipes were created. Eventually, and the drink’s popularity spread throughout Europe. Since then, new technologies and innovations have changed the texture and taste of chocolate, but it still remains one of the world’s favorite flavors.

TYPES OF CHOCOLATE:
Several types of chocolate can be distinguished. Pure, unsweetened chocolate contains primarily cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportions. Much of the chocolate consumed today is in the form of sweet chocolate, combining chocolate with sugar. Milk chocolate is sweet chocolate that additionally contains milk powder or condensed milk.
"White chocolate" contains cocoa butter, sugar, and milk but no cocoa solids. Chocolate contains alkaloids such as theobromine and phenethylamine, which have some physiological effects in humans, but the presence of theobromine renders it toxic to some animals, such as dogs and cats. It has been linked to serotonin levels in the brain. Dark chocolate has recently been promoted for its health benefits, as it seems to possess substantial amount of antioxidants that reduce the formation of free radicals.
Alongside milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark chocolate are also common chocolate varieties.
White chocolate is formed from a mixture of sugar, cocoa butter, and milk solids. Although its texture is similar to milk and dark chocolate, it does not contain any cocoa solids. Because of this, many countries do not consider white chocolate as chocolate at all. Although first introduced by Hebert Candies in 1955, Mars, Incorporated was the first to produce white chocolate within the United States. Because it does not contain any cocoa solids, white chocolate does not contain any theobromine, meaning it can be consumed by animals.
Dark chocolate is produced by adding fat and sugar to the cacao mixture. The U.S. Government calls this "sweet chocolate", and requires a 15% concentration of chocolate liquor. European rules specify a minimum of 35% cocoa solids. Dark chocolate, with its high cocoa content, is a rich source of the flavonoids epicatechin and gallic acid, which are thought to possess cardioprotective properties. Dark chocolate has also been said to reduce the possibility of a heart attack when consumed regularly in small amounts. Semisweet chocolate is a dark chocolate with a low sugar content. Bittersweet chocolate is chocolate liquor to which some sugar (typically a third), more cocoa butter, vanilla and sometimes lecithin have been added. It has less sugar and more liquor than semisweet chocolate, but the two are interchangeable in baking.
Unsweetened chocolate is pure chocolate liquor, also known as bitter or baking chocolate. It is unadulterated chocolate: the pure, ground, roasted chocolate beans impart a strong, deep chocolate flavor.

The castle was built from the 12th century by the barons of Beynac (one of the four baronies of Périgord) to close the valley. The sheer cliff face being sufficient to discourage any assault from that side, the defences were built up on the plateau: double crenellated walls, double moats, one of which was a deepened natural ravine, double barbican.
The oldest part of the castle is a large, square-shaped, Romanesque keep with vertical sides and few openings, held together with attached watch towers and equipped with a narrow spiral staircase terminating on a crenellated terrace. To one side, a residence of the same period is attached; it was remodelled and enlarged in the 16th and 17th centuries. On the other side is a partly 14th century residence side-by-side with a courtyard and a square plan staircase serving the 17th century apartments. The apartments have kept their woodwork and a painted ceiling from the 17th century. The Salle des États (States' Hall) has a Renaissance sculptured fireplace and leads into a small oratory entirely covered with 15th century frescoes, included a Pietà, a Saint Christopher, and a Last Supper in which Saint Martial (first bishop of Limoges) is the maître d'hôtel.
At the time of the Hundred Years' War, the fortress at Beynac was in French hands. The Dordogne was the border between France and England. Not far away, on the opposite bank of the river, the Château de Castelnaud was held by the English. The Dordogne region was the theatre of numerous struggles for influence, rivalries and occasionally battles between the English and French supporters. However, the castles fell more often through ruse and intrigue rather than by direct assault, because the armies needed to take these castles were extremely costly: only the richest nobles and kings could procure them.
The castle was bought in 1962 by Lucien Grosso who has restored it.
