Chinese regulators blacklisted 25 more apps associated with the ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing on Friday, the latest blow to the company as it reckons with a government crackdown at home and litigation overseas. ⠀

App stores in China, where some 90 per cent of the ride-hailing market is dominated by Didi, were ordered to remove the company’s primary app last week on “national security” grounds, just days after it went public on the New York Stock Exchange. ⠀

In a notice posted late Friday evening, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) demanded that more than two dozen additional apps tied to Didi be scrubbed from China’s app stores, alleging the illegal collection of user data. ⠀

In similar language to its original directive, which had been issued against Didi on Sunday, the CAC ordered the 25 apps to “thoroughly rectify the existing problems in strict accordance with the requirements of the law and according to national standards”.⠀

It was the late afternoon colors reflecting off of this P-51 Mustang that attracted me.

Upon looking the aircraft over, I found that it had auxiliary fuel tanks mounted. I had never see one tricked out like that before.

Compared to the elegantly designed wing tanks of today, or fuel bladders, they appear quite rudimentary. Like the tanks of today, they can be dropped when empty.

One of the most distinctive features of this warbird is the long cowling that covers the 12 cyclinder Merlin engine. Like most tail-draggers, planes with single rear wheel, especially the P-51 have to do gradual S-turns while taxiing to see where they are going.

I chose to alter the perspective to elongate the nose and call the viewers attention to it. All in all, this craft is in beautiful shape.

Violet (color)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Violet

Violet is the color of amethyst, lavender and beauty berries. It takes its name from the violet flower.[2][3]

Violet is the color at the end of the visible spectrum of light between blue and the invisible ultraviolet. Violet color has a predominant light wavelength of roughly 380-450 nanometers[4] (in experiments under special conditions, people have so far seen to 310 nm).[5][6][7] Light with a shorter wavelength than violet but longer than X-rays and gamma rays is called ultraviolet. In the color wheel historically used by painters, it is located between blue and purple. On the screens of computer monitors and television sets, a color which looks similar to violet is made, with the RGB color model, by mixing red and blue light, with the blue twice as bright as the red. This is not true violet, since it is composed of multiple longer wavelengths rather than a single wavelength shorter than that of blue light.

Violet and purple look very similar; but violet is a true color, with its own set of wavelengths on the spectrum of visible light, while purple is a composite color, made by combining blue and red.

Officials says 13 of the more than 7,000 people who've been tested for Covid-19 in the locked-down area of Jordan since Saturday were preliminary positive.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection told a press conference on Sunday that four of the cases were from one family and two from another family, with the rest scattered around the area.

She said the positive rate from the restricted area is much higher than the voluntary community testing programme conducted in last September.

"The positive rate is about 0.17 percent," Chuang said, giving a figure of 12 cases in the area. Health Secretary Sophia Chan confirmed shortly afterwards that another case had been found.

"We have put all close contacts under quarantine," Chuang said. "Also some of cases, if not all of them, are staying in subdivided flats.

"We will put all those who share subdivided flats, even those who are not in the same household, under quarantine as well so as to minimise the risk of transmission."

In September, authorities tested some 1.78 million samples from those who joined the the territory-wide programme and identified 32 new cases. The positive rate was about 0.002 percent. (20210124 RTHK News)

Thousands of Jordan residents streamed to Covid-19 testing booths on Saturday, hours after the government made the unprecedented move of setting up a restricted zone in part of the Kowloon district, while imposing a 48-hour lockdown.

Jordan is at the centre of a coronavirus outbreak, with over 160 cases in more than 50 building since the beginning of the month. It features many old buildings, often with subdivided flats and damaged sewage pipes.

Police officers in protective gear began sealing off the area at around 4 am on Saturday, as the government declared the restricted area which runs east-to-west from Woosung Street to Battery Street, and north to south from Kansu Street to Nanking Street.

Those who completed their Covid testing were given a wristband and a bag of supplies, including cup noodles, canned food, bread and face masks. (20210123 RTHK News)

From the moment visitors enter the State Theatre, they will travel back in time to the building’s golden age in the 1950s. At the lobby ticket box office, visitors will receive a vintage style movie ticket, which marks the start of their first-person immersive experience. They will then be invited to play a part in the history of State Theatre – from enjoying world-class performances at the Empire Theatre (predecessor of the State Theatre), and discovering the story of “Little Shanghai”, to reminiscing about the popular Chinese and Western movies shown at the State Theatre, and all the heart-wrenching historical footage of the site.

The show at the State Theatre is far from over. Before the State Theatre returns in 2026, Culture for Tomorrow will continue to organise and curate cultural activities, allowing the public a rare chance to relive the precious memories of this Grade I Historic Site.

A detailed architectural study of the iconic green-painted staircase structure at Völklinger Hütte, Germany’s UNESCO World Heritage ironworks. Captured with the Fujifilm GFX100R, the large-format sensor reveals subtle tonal gradations, metal textures, and the interplay of light across layers of steel. Each version explores the same structure from a different viewpoint and color treatment, emphasizing geometry, repetition, and rhythm within the industrial framework. Developed from RAW for tonal balance and controlled contrast to highlight the fusion of structure and abstraction.

The Fire Services Department said on Thursday that its ambulance crews are extremely stretched due to the current wave of Covid-19 infections.

Assistant director Ng Hau-ming said officers from different teams have been drafted in to help, and a command room has been set up to coordinate their efforts.

Ng said the number of officers on each ambulance has been cut from three to two.

He told RTHK that ambulance trips can now take double or triple the usual time, because officers need to gown up and disinfect their vehicle after taking Covid patients to hospital.

"The wait is rather long because our officers have to wait at the hospital for medical staff to take the patient and the hospitals are all packed," Ng said.

"We've come across situations where seven or eight ambulances are all parked outside A&E, waiting."

It hasn't happened yet, but I suspect that the Bloomington Police or Mall of America Security will question the big guy with a camera hanging around under the Mall of America.

But this night, I was with my faithful and patient Mariana, who added an air of legitimacy I suppose to my late night prowling.

Route #54 goes directly from downtown St. Paul directly to the Mall of America with stops at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, dropping off and picking up passengers and airport workers.

We were about to fold up operations that night and get Mariana her reward for being so patient . . . a short walk toe the 24 hour IHOP and their delicious crepes. The terminal was deserted, the crowds had left, and there remained this one bus, and a passenger carrying a large white bag that caught my eye. I love the lighting there . . . subdued, mysterious. spooky even with sharp contrasts.

Definitely time for one more photograph. ;))

A primary school in Santiago de Cuba.

Lately, I've been noticing the photo ops found along the Light Rail lines that run from Minneapolis to both the Mall of America and St. Paul, as well as the neighborhood back yards and alleys along those routes. Hence, the first photo show the location from which I first saw the art in the other two photos.

The idea wasn't mine. I had run across a photographer who photographed back yards in Germany if I recall. It's also fun to "go where no photographer has [likely] gone before." .😎

Over the fence is an art atelier and complex that I have yet to explore.

Nobel Peace Prize 2018 was awarded to a Yazidi woman, Nadia Murad, for her effort to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war. In this picture, a Yazidi family, in Northern Iraq: they are three sisters (one of them wasn't there at the moment); they were under ISIS and then redeemed and reunited with their father. Unfortunately, the mother "is still there", under her torturers. All the Yazidi refugees, they explained to us, can now find hospitality in Australia, thanks to an agreement between the governments. But the father does not want to go there, without his wife.

Health officials said a supermarket worker who caught Covid-19 from an unknown source may be infected with the Omicron variant.

She was among the 37 newly confirmed cases announced on Saturday.

Authorities say the 58-year-old woman had a relatively high viral load and the virus she was infected with carried mutations found in the highly-infectious Omicron variant.

Moongazers in Hong Kong were out in force on Wednesday evening for the rare cosmic event known as the "super blood moon". While some said they enjoyed the occasion, others were left disappointed, saying the moon was mostly hiding behind the clouds.

Before nightfall, scores of people carrying cameras and tripods were already seen in Shek O, Quarry Bay and Whampoa, considered to be the prime spots for the phenomenon.

Under the super blood moon, a full lunar eclipse coincides with a supermoon, which is when the moon is particularly close to Earth and appears brighter than normal.

And for about 15 minutes, the moon appears to turn red as it moves fully into Earth's shadow.

Hong Kong last witnessed the phenomenon over 20 years ago, and it won't happen here again for another 12 years, which was why some people at the Whampoa waterfront told RTHK they came early to get the best viewing spot.

"I took a couple of hours off to come here a bit earlier, just to make sure I can secure a good spot," Linda said.

"It's pretty exciting because things are happening at the same time, you have the moon eclipse, the supermoon and the blood moon... I think it's quite an extraordinary experience."

Hundreds of people eventually filled the promenade, but their spirits were quickly dampened by the clouds after 7 pm, when the lunar eclipse was supposed to take place.

"There're too many clouds, around 80 percent of the time they shrouded the moon," a moongazer surnamed Lam complained.

"And I can't see the reddish colour, I only see a white moon."

Still, there were those who were happy with the experience.

"Although it is cloudy, we can still take some beautiful photos," said Angela, who came with her friends.

She said she did not mind waiting for an hour just to catch glimpses of the moon from time to time.

"When it comes out from the clouds again, it is more exciting for us."

She said she will gladly go moongazing again 12 years later when the super blood moon reappears here.

When you see a scene like this unfolding i.e. a collection of pseudo-cops assembling without the presence of sworn police officers, it's best to make a detour.

Just from past observations, being curious in such situations, someone will get you involved. The professional politice officer will go about his/her duty with nary a glance your way. But these types of colloquies seem to spill over onto curious passers by.

This fellow wisely takes to the street to circle whatever is going on. A wise urban dweller . . .
