These magnificent replicas of the original Star Trek working phaser props, were completed in 2005. They were based on painstaking analysis of the meager reference material of the time.
NOTE: the ATL replicas were a private project and not made for sale. None are available.

Phase One IQ250
Schneider Kreuznach LS 55mm f/2.8
Looking rather chipper in anticipation of phase two.
Phase one: Remove all frets.
Phase two: Smooth the neck with epoxy. (Not recommended.)
Phase three: Place zip ties as new temporary frets.

Just like the original props, the ATL strips down into its three component parts: the P2 phaser body, the P1 hand phaser, and the pistol grip power pack. The grip is held to the body with an electrical twist plug used on lamp cords in the mid 20th century. The p1 is attached via friction fit and a springloaded metal tab in the back.

Like a lemming charging towards the precipice quantum-x dashes crazily at niagara falls with road flare in hand. His speed, dexterity and pride shame any olympic torch runner.
We forwarded the nipple-deep lake and scrambled up the pile of rocks and rubble at the tunnel mouth. I stood tall in the maelstrom of water and wind, like a fucking kungfu master weathering the storm upon the mountain top. I was Pei Mei. I was Milamber of the Assembly. The water pelted me from all sides stinging my naked torso. Gusts of furious wind battered me to and fro inside this elemental cauldron. I yelled in unashamed triumph from the depths of my chest for every drop of Niagara's sweet bukkake that stung my face and trickled down my cheeks. The tunnel plays upon a very primal instinct.

Well I gave up on trying to fake concete with styrofoam and just used the real thing, although the aggregate is a little big for the scale...and he's a bit too close to the background back anyway, it's good to finally have it done.

Researchers at SLAC and Stanford are developing new accelerator-based technology called PHASER (Pluridirectional High-energy Agile Scanning Electron Radiotherapy) that aims to speed up cancer radiation therapy by hundreds of times and make related medical devices more compact. The approach could reduce side effects in patients. The proposed PHASER design is compact enough to fit into standard cargo containers. Its transportability could help make radiation therapy for cancer more accessible around the world.

Finally took the time to put all my Moon shots into a "time lapse". This is all 29 phases of the Moon strung together. Most of these were shot in May of 2020. Many were taken on consecutive nights so the features line up pretty well. Some phases were taken months later and the Moon had wobbled into a little different position than the shots before or after it. Generally happy with the result. It would be best to shoot them all on consecutive nights - but that will never happen in northern Ohio. Most of these are stitched panoramas and were shot through a telescope - Celestron NextStar 8SE with a 2x Barlow = 4064 mm f20, Nikon D850. Day 1 was taken with a 600 mm Sigma f6.3.
Phaser from Star Trek TOS. Base replica from Wand Co., modifications by Steve Dymszo (SD Studios). Improvements include emitter nozzle and casting of grip from a Master Replicas phaser (more accurate than Wand's). "Tenturn" power setting knob replaced with modern metal DigiKey tenturn with silkscreened markings. More accurate "extra crispy" on phaser one sight plate masks the sound holes. Accurate power meter label added. repainted to more closely resemble how the props appear on television. Black and White phaser made to look like the props used in the first eight episodes of the series.

So ck4049 told me about this website, trainiax.net, which has outline drawings of different locomotives. It's like an online train coloring book!
I couldn't resist also creating my idea for Amtrak's next paint scheme, Phase VI. Listen Amtrak, you know I love you and all, but that blank gray ugly Phase V stuff has got to go. You want red and blue and stripes? Okay, let's make it really red and blue and striped then! I thought this was similar enough in theme to past paint schemes to be generally acceptable, but with the red background which Amtrak has never used (and why not? let's have vivid, noticeable trains!) I didn't put a logo on it because it was too hard to do -- I like the old logo better but hey, it's a minor detail. And I used the old font, but the new one would be fine too.
Phase 3, the final phase of the project, is set to begin in 2010, will paint the superstructure of the bridge above the roadway.
This $47 million phase of construction will include $12.5 million in funding through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

This is one of two piercing darts inside the sting of a paper wasp, likely Polistes dominula (an invasive species). The dart is a hollow tube which delivers venom. This micrograph shows the venom outlet at the tip of the dart.
This individual was trapped while building a nest on my house and killed using Ethyl Acetate. Whole insect fixed 24 hours in FAA (formaldehyde, acetic acid, ethyl alcohol.) Dehydrated in IPA at 35, 50, 70, 85, 95 %. Wing sections dissected under 95 % IPA and mounted directly in Euparal.
Photographed on a Nikon MS microscope in phase contrast at original magnification of 400X using a Sony NEX 5N and a Leica MIKAS 1/3X adapter.
Sadly these are the only images I have of my little Moleskine notebook, which I carelessly left in the back of the seat in front of me on a day out when we were in Malaysia earlier this year. My Name and address were in the front, but it's never come home. So sad. I've barely tangled since then. Time, as much as anything, but I almost feel like I'm looking out the window for a long-gone friend, expecting them to walk up the pathway....
How daft is that!?!!
I'm sure I'll get my act together soon and get tangling again. :@)

I'm not so fond of rerooting dolls: I guess you already know it, since I keep repeating it for every OOAK dolls I create! Ahahahah!
Here are just some pics to show you how I take this phase seriously, even if it's not my favorite! X-D
-----------
