Phases... I'm going through phases, as Ozzy might have sang but chose changes instead.
This picture represents a phase of mine, when I stuck up some of my 3x3 tiled infinity squared art up on the streets of Paris. That was a phase.
You could say that this blog is a phase, but it's been going, more or less daily, for nearly three years now, so if it's a phase it's a long one.
English teaching was a phase, as was training teachers and writing an English language teaching book. Poetry is an on-going, on and off phase, when inspiration hits.
Photo tours are a long strung out phase. Sales rep for a computer company was a phase. Watersports instructing was a phase. Wedding photography was a phase. Waiting in a restaurant was a phase. Running a language school in Greece was a phase. Being married was a phase.
You'd be forgiven for thinking I'm feeling a bit fazed at the moment and you wouldn't be wrong.
Life's a succession of phases, but I guess some people's phases last longer than others'. Mine are short to medium term, which isn't always a good thing but I've come to realise there's not much I can do about it.
What I'm not so good at is long phases. More than a few months or years at the same thing. That's tricky; that's not me. I mean, it is or it can be. But in general it's the exception which proves the rule.
I think I'm looking for longer phases these days mind you. I've got kids, I've got responsibilities. And I think I've found where I can be happy, in two realms - the artistic and the intellectual, through photography, art, poetry and writing for the former, and the world of English teaching for the latter.
Paris and I is a beautiful phase although I do wonder how long I can keep it up. Can I honestly find a worthwhile photo and something interesting to say from now until I die? I doubt it, but I'm hoping this will be one of my longer phases. I owe it to myself.
I am making a lilac breasted roller and this is the first phase of the work. He or she, I am not sure yet, has a happy expression, like (s)he's giggling. Still not sure what his or her story is going to be like. I heard it is the most photographed bird of Africa, so it has to be about how vain (s)he is. Can the bird help it that (s)he takes good pictures?

On 07.10.14, I was invited by Friends of the High Line, along with my fellow volunteer photographers, to take photos of its Phase 3 which was still ongoing construction at that time. Afterwards, I walked along the park and caught red skies at sunset time.
My MXR Phase 90 that I've had since 1973 or 1974. It was used to play Rhodes through in its early years and has spent most of the last 20 years or so in my home studio. I've discovered that it's a desirable item and am learning more about it. It is totally original, always worked, and never been in for any kind of service. The original BUD case indicates that it is one of the earliest models produced. Even though the internal foam pad liner has deteriorated, I've left it in place. The back of the case has some scratches due to sitting on top of the Rhodes and being moved around a bit, but overall the case is in excellent condition.
This is how fireworks actually works. Yellow cores are start, then fade to blue, and from blue to green. Colors are artificial, intervals between exposures are almost the same.

Our trip began with a one stop flight to Florida. Here we are in the Atlanta, Georgia airport. It was very early!

An experiment coupling a Rat distortion circuit with the old MXR 2-stage Phase 45 circuit. I'd never owned a Phase 45, but liked the idea of a subtle phaser with a Rat. Except two stages isn't really enough. It just doesn't really do it for me.
