This is the other Maestro phaser. My Maestro boards are the original Maestro phaser that Bob Moog designed. This design is the one that replaced it that was designed by Tom Oberheim. This is an OTA phaser, which is Optical Transconductance Amplifier. They have an interesting sound. I played through this one today quite a bit, even though I'm not supposed to be playing. I wanted to make sure this pedal was right before it goes to someone famous. I mostly played my Junior through it. I'm all like, "Yeah, it's OK." I mean, it's nicer than most phasers, but doesn't live up to the Moog design, IMO.
Anyway, I pulled out my Gibson SG bass to make sure it wasn't going to break up with a bass signal going through it. I could recalibrate it if that had been the case, but it was fine. Anyway, this thing turned into a whole different animal with a bass plugged into it. No wonder funk players liked this phaser in the 70's. It seems like it may have actually been designed to be a bass phaser. So yeah, now I know something about these. May end up building one to use with my own bass stuff.
