«Phantom» remakes the Fourth Plinth of Trafalgar Square in a quiet back street in Bermondsey. This scale replica of the famous fourth plinth is built to coincide with the announcement of the next winners of the prestigious London contemporary art commission. The Neo-Victorian monument stands incongruously between industrial warehouses and a high tech' academy school in inner South London.
Amidst the fanfare surrounding the announcement of the commissions' next winners it is easy to forget that this year sees huge reductions in funding for public services, local authorities and arts organizations. This plinth, de-centered from the tourist hub, reminds us that while high profile sites like the fourth plinth persist, the funding for arts and for local authorities will diminish significantly. In an area struggling to shake off the hangover of its post-industrial decay this Victorian replica displaces the emptiness of political rhetoric into the real of urbanism.
«Phantom» echoes the simplicity of Mark Wallinger's «Ecce Homo», the formal lucidity of Rachel Whiteread's «Monument»; and the political bite of Jeremy Deller's unrealized «Spoils of War»; it mines the surreal, interactive, reality-television quality of Anthony Gormleys «One and Other»; and like Elmgreen & Dragset's «Powerless Structures Fig 101.» it uses humor to question this authoritarian strain of public architecture.
The displaced plinth may yet serve as a viable alternative forum for future art commissions if Boris Johnson makes good his election promise to replace this important platform for contemporary art with a stout bronze immortalizing a military hero or the latest expired monarch.

Nice day out with Fester the beetle. We drove about an hour north on the M9 to Blackford where the Phantoms hot rod club were holding their annual show.
Great show, great cars and friendly people. What more do you need?

Opening night of the national touring production of 'The Phantom of the Opera' in Denver included an up-close look at of Maria Björnson’s award-winning costumes; a peek at crews installing the famous chandelier in the Buell Theatre; and a visit by cast member Kathryn McCreary (The Wild Woman) with members of the DCPA’s Best of Broadway Society. Also making a appearance was Popsicle, the SCFD Bear, who is “popping” up all over town in support of Referendum 4B, which is passed will extend the metro area’s Scientific and Cultural Facilities District for the next 12 years. 6 year old 16.2 TRAKEHNER GELDING! Nemo’s JW Phantom - Dressage and Jumper Prospect He has a very quiet, and easy going temperament and willing spirit. Built for jumping. Micro chipped & NEGATIVE coggins test. UTD on worming, feet ETC. This big boy was born and raised on our farm. Nemo's J.W. Phantom is a 6 year old/registered Trakehner Gelding. He has first place ribbons in Training Level Dressage in 2009 for his first dressage show with a score of 73%; he has two second places for his first time doing First Level Test 1 and 2. He is a Bold Honest jumper. Phantom has free jumped 5ft with a 2ft spread and currently jumps 4ft with rider. He would be great for junior or amateur rider, he has loads of potential, even a young rider would learn on him. He loves being hair dried. Phantom Clips, Baths, Trims, Trailers, Vets great. Many have commented on his honest gentle nature. This is truly a chance of a life time with a horse to bond and grow with, he would take you far. Die Phantoms Cheerleader waren bei der Cheerleading Landesmeisterschaft sehr erfolgreich. Hessenmeister wurden die Phantastics, Phairies und der Groupstunt. Die Phantasies wurden Vizemeister. Alle Teams für die Deutsche Meisterschaft qualifiziert.
