Perhaps the most amazing thing about Cardiff's 2019 Extinction Rebellion protest (beyond raising awareness of the urgent need to protect our planet) was the closure of the city's main streets (Castle Street, Duke Street, Kingsway and half of Westgate Street).
It was genuinely surreal to be able to walk on these thoroughfares - during a normally busy period, devoid of any traffic. Also amazing is how such a small group of protesters could be left to create such disruption - there was an obvious police presence, but everything felt very laid back. What with the street closures - and sunshine, Cardiff had a very relaxed feel these few days.
Perhaps attacked by a bird, which was deterred by the "bloody nose" defence or just unlucky enough to be trodden on by human or animal. The elytra or wing-cases of this sp. are fused together and they cannot fly but that fusion might add strength. She seemed able to function normally, still. those expanded "feet" of the smaller, male beetle have special adaptations to enable him to maintain a grip on the smooth wing-cases of the female.

I'm getting a bit bored of self-portraits. Eventually I'll find people who actually don't run away from the camera.
Perhaps it is the great starting salary, the stability, or that plumbers can work almost anywhere which has called so many people to this field. Even with our economy the way it is, plumbers, for the most part, can always find work. If this is the career path you want to pursue, it is better to...
I'm about to start a TNR project with friends and will be posting photos and stories soon in a blog. At some point we'll need a naming contest to keep them all straight.
I was watching this baby swan trying to eat. It would grab a large aquatic plant and thrash around wildly, trying unsuccessfully to uproot the plant. Chicago Botanic Garden Jun 08, 2012 L1030374.dng

Perhaps Chedworth is best known for it's Roman villa hidden at the end of a wooded valley a short distance from the village. Chedworth is a linear settlement which follows a steep sided valley for several miles, the small cottages that make up the majority of the buildings are masked amongst the trees and lost from sight by the rise and fall of the land. Perhaps the centre of the village is it's beginning, the group of houses that cluster below the church, which is cut into the steep valley side above. All is quiet and calm, paddocks with sheep, chickens, a pair of donkeys and even llamas line the road. The church is an early foundation, parts of the present structure dating to the late Norman period, most notably the tower. However it is the beauty of the setting, looking out over the valley below and the dramatic wall of Perpendicular windows that make up the south facade that add such beauty to this remote church. The south wall is also remarkable for a series of inscriptions from the late 15th century which include dates written in Arabic numerals. This early use of a system of notation which would revolutionize mathematical calculation is perhaps the product of the international connections of local wool merchants. Chedworth was once a busier place, the remains of a disused railway run through the village and indeed through a substantial tunnel nearby and a Wartime air field can be seen in the fields beyond.
Perhaps this doesn't look very risky? d:
This photo is "taking a risk" for a couple reasons. I was experimenting with flash and long exposure...at the same time!
Originally I had been aiming for a blurred photo, but with the flash the photo came out fairly focused and with light streaks cutting across the image. Kind of neat!
Processing was 'a risk', so to speak, because I try not to over process my images. I try to keep them looking pretty natural. With this image I increased the brightness to around 55 so some of the image was blown out. I also increased contrast and sharpness/clarity before converting to BW. I think it's fun to play around, and I kind of like the result! :-)
Another thing I don't like to do is use the same subject for my photos too often....this particlar doll was just used last week! :o)
