What do you think of the historic town of Pendleton?

The Town of Pendleton was created in 1790 for a courthouse seat. It is named for Judge Henry Pendleton, a Virginian who fought in the Revolution and remained in South Carolina. Until a division of the district in 1826, the town was one of the most influential in the upper half of South Carolina.

Pendleton still has several great, old structures.

I'm a huge fan of wool and Pendleton is the master of it. Vintage Pendleton work shirts and blankets are a find at any thrift store. The new stuff is gorgeous but very expensive. Some of these go for $60-$80 a yard! We ended up buying blanket remnant cutter scraps to use for various projects.

Rug made from Pendleton Woolen Mill scrap. I'm trying to make several of these so I can sell them…they are great. All wool, fire resistance and flea resistance…also made from Pendleton Wool Salvage. This one is about 3x3 ft.

Pendleton, Indiana (June 22, 2013) Pendleton is like that proverbial box of chocolate. You never Pendleton, Indiana (June 22, 2013) Pendleton is like that proverbial box of chocolate. You never know for sure what you’re going to experience. And today turned out to be one of those very special treats. Late this afternoon members of the INDY 500 chapter of the Model T Club of America came roaring into town (well it was more like putting into town) after a day-long cruise around central Indiana.

I caught up with the group during a stop over they made here at Falls Park. During that visit I spoke with Mr. Dan Conder. Dan is not only the Vice-President of the Model T Club of America he’s also a former Pendleton resident and Pendleton High School Alumni.

One member of the group was driving a very unique car. It turns out that this car has a deep Anderson, Indiana connection and is embed in Indiana’s auto racing history.

The car is a 1917 Speedster Racer which is owned by Mr. Jim Roof of Anderson. He spoke with me this afternoon about the car, its history and how his family played such an important role in its development.
