Wishing Lily Pad Cards a VERY HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY.

This is my card for the Hop. All stamps by Hero Arts... BasicGrey/Hero Arts clear set for the flowers, HA Simple Frame and words from Made with Love set. White embossed the flowers and colored with a mixture of Distress inks and Pearlescent paints; Sorry it's not the best picture... but late afternoon sun on a perfect Autumn day.

Using the other half of the cardstock to make a second mini...

Used some Washi tape for mu blue panel and stamped and die cut the cute mouseand his bowl of stars. Coloured with Pearlescent paints.

This amazing pattern is from a knitted fabric but is not a streight from camera photo. I put an image (see to the left on the photostream) of pillows with faces on them into a kaleidoscope repeatedly (about 20 times or so).

I resized for upload but these are larger than usual so that the fibers can still be seen in the largest versions.

Would make a good pattern for clothing.

Would look amazing printed on a pearlescent or metalic surface.

Deboxing the Designer SQ Elsa and Hans Doll Set, with slipcover and acrylic cover off, so the dolls are in the clear. They are secured to the cardboard backing, the plastic supports and the built in doll stands.

I have finally deboxed the Designer Fairytale Snow Queen Elsa and Hans Doll Set (2015). My set is #4597 of 6000. It was the only set that I didn't get at the Disney Store raffle, so I had to order her online. I show the set boxed, during deboxing and fully deboxed. After deboxing them, I place them back on their display stand, in a different pose.

I was a little surprised that Elsa has the body construction of the 2012 DS Classic Princess dolls, so has external hinged knee joints and ankle joints. It makes her legs a bit unsightly when they are exposed by opening the slit of the skirt. She has shiny pearlescent skin that is similar to the Harrods Elsa doll, but doesn't have the heavy blush. Her Snow Queen outfit also has embellishments that are more similar to that of the Harrods Elsa rather than that of the LE 2500 Snow Queen Elsa. But rather than the jeweled snowflakes of the 17'' LE Elsa she has single clear rhinestones throughout her braid, and a few on her head. The snowflake and icicle design in her cape are printed rather than embroidered (as in the 17'' LE Elsas) or glittered (as in the Classic Elsa). They are flat and smooth, and I don't think are as effective in depicting ice.

The major embellishments of Designer Hans over Classic Hans are the addition of white gloves, and a sword. However, It's disappointing that there is no scabbard for the sword - it is loosely sewn to his pants legs, which looks rather cheap.

I will show the dolls in side by side comparisons to other Elsa and Hans dolls in future postings.

This pretty sky blue and white phone case has been hand crocheted from two strands of yarn and has an adorable pink piggy with a button snout and a curly tail appliquéd onto the front. A small strap fastens over the opening with a coordinating pearlescent button.

4x12 inch mixed media painting on stretched canvas

Striving for Raw & Organic natural designs, my "Art Gem" series has given me some of my most satisfying results. Each one is unique, with patterns that reflect beautiful natural flowing elements.

The technique I use to make these result in paintings that are everything from electric, wild & full of movement to calm surreal dreams. Some have described them as topo maps from a distant colorful planet, and like the outer reaches of another galaxy.

A series of small format abstract paintings. Very raw & organic with unique textures, colorful finishes & vivid imagery.

Made with layers of custom mixed acrylic & pearlescent paints, inks, powders, varnishes.

Pink is the new matte black. Or maybe not.

I love big pink balls just as much as the next guy, but I think this is kinda tacky.

The upper level of the Broadway Market, Capitol Hill, Seattle.

One of over 250 shades of eye shadow created by me!

My eye shadows have a luxurious cashmere texture for great color payoff and stay-true color that never creases and always looks fabulous

This 1935-1938 Parker Vacumatic fountain pen, possibly the "Slender" model, in laminated green emerald DuPont pearlescent celluloid, was a gift from Peter Beck, restored per advice by the Fountain Pen Shop's Fred P. Krinke. Stuart Hawkinson replaced the missing "jewel": the laminated celluloid cone secured by the metal "tassie ring" at the end of the barrel. I went to Greg Minuskin to re-tip the broken nib, which is a specialty of his, but ended up asking him to also take the next step, overall restoration. Three days later he emailed a summary: "New diaphragm installed in your Parker Vacumatic, light polish up to the cap and barrel, and the all important retip is now done to factory looking spec’s. Even re-plated your nib for you in the correct two tone pattern, no extra charge!"

Pearlescent disc sequin, looks like mother-of-pearl buttons. Grey silk georgette base.

pink girly vanilla cupcakes for a fifth birthday party...my first professional order!

My LE Wedding Cinderella Doll has been fully deboxed. She is posed standing, supported by the included display stand. With her floor length multi-layered skirt she should be able to free stand, but I didn't haven't tried to stand her that way. She is photographed from all angles.

On my second attempt to get the Limited Edition Wedding Cinderella 17'' Doll from eBay, I finally got her! I got her with the help of a fellow collector. She is #450 of 500, and was originally sold by the Japan Disney Store. There is a Japanese sticker on the bottom of the box. She was shipped double boxed, and very well packed. She arrived in perfect condition.

She is very beautiful, and has a serene expression, rather than the grumpy pout of the LE Ballgown Cinderella doll. Her lips have a slight smile, which is part of why she has a more pleasant expression than the other doll, who shares the same face mold. She is glancing in the opposite direction of the Ballgown Cinderella, and her skin has a matte surface, rather than the shiny pearly surface of the Ballgown doll. Her pale yellow wedding gown has many differently sized and colored rhinestones enhancing the printed floral pattern. There are also several small jeweled plastic butterflies in the skirt, hidden amongst the flowers. The decorations continue throughout the back of the dress. There are also faux pearl buttons on her sleeves and on the back of her bodice. Her skirt is very full with a long train, and is in three differently colored layers. Under her skirts is a 3/4 length single layer tulle petticoat. Attached to her hair is an oversized pale yellow sheer chiffon veil. She has golden earrings and a jeweled golden tiara. Her wedding ring is a floral design with five golden beads; it is pinned to her hand. She has the old style legs, with fixed ankles. She is wearing simple ivory heels, with no decorations.

I will be posting a full set of detailed photos of this doll. She will be shown boxed, during deboxing, and fully deboxed, both by herself and with other Disney Store dolls.

This exceptionally well-preserved portrait is one of the finest works on panel by William Larkin, the Jacobean painter who is most famous for his celebrated set of nine magnificent full-length portraits that descended with the Earls of Suffolk, and which now hang at Kenwood House.[1] His exaggerated, iconographic style has been likened to miniature painting on a grand scale, reflecting a particularly English aesthetic.

The intricately embroidered and brilliantly coloured costume is kaleidoscopic in effect. The motifs include sea monsters, maritime birds and flora, emerging from stylised silvery ripples of water on her skirt. Her bodice is decorated with crimson-crested woodpeckers, insects, grapes, and flowers punctuated by silver spangles and swirling patterns of golden thread. They are depicted with painstaking attention and each brushstroke imitates individual stitches. The detail reflects the exquisite craftsmanship characteristic of Larkin, all the more noticeable for its execution on panel rather than canvas. Her loosely flowing fair hair is caught on the fashionably starched pale yellow collar, beneath which the neck-line of her bodice scoops low to reveal a pearlescent chest of milky skin and a maze of aristocratic ‘blue-blooded’ veins.

Larkin has depicted Jane with her right hand over her stomach, which could be an indication that she is pregnant with her first child Francis, who was born in 1617, the year of this portrait.

The painting is in a remarkable state of preservation, with virtually all of its original glazes and impasto intact, allowing us to enjoy its dazzling surface and Larkin’s virtuoso technique, for he was an artist whose paintings brought the Elizabethan and Jacobean tradition of court portraiture to a brilliant climax during the second decade of James I. Before Larkin and the main body of his work were first identified, portraits such as this were ascribed to ‘The Curtain Master’, on account of their presentation of the sitter within draped curtains.[2] These formalised swags of silk were a device he commonly employed to frame his subjects. The artist, or his studio, often replicated almost identical folds. Those used for Lady Thornagh are closely comparable to sections of the curtains found in the full-length of Richard Sackville, 3rd Earl of Dorset and Elizabeth Drury, Lady Burghley from the Suffolk collection. There are few records of Larkin’s life and brief career, which was cut short by his untimely death in 1619, the same year that Nicholas Hilliard and also the Queen, Anne of Denmark, died. He never occupied an official position at court, but we do know he was London-born.

The provenance of our painting indicates that the sitter is very likely to be Jane, Lady Thornagh. She was the eldest daughter of Sir John Jackson (b.1568) of Edderthorpe and Hickleton, a member of the council at York and an attorney to King James I, and his wife Elizabeth Savile, whose father had been a Baron of the Exchequer during the reign of Elizabeth I. Jane was married in around 1615 to Francis Thornagh (1593 – 1643), of Fenton. The Thornaghs[3] were an influential Nottinghamshire family whose roots can be traced back to the 13th century when a Petrus de Thornhawe sat in the parliament of 1295 for Lincoln city. Her husband Francis was knighted the year of his marriage, and was to become High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire (1637 – 1638), a position his father had held, and that his son after him would also later hold. At the outbreak of the Civil War, siding with the Parliamentarians, he raised a regiment of horse to fight against the King through he died shortly after in April 1643. Jane retained the family estates at Fenton in dower, and continued to live there until her death in 1661.[4]

[1] Of these, the costume of Lady Isabella Rich, with her low-cut bodice, pale yellow lace collar and red and blue mantle, is echoed here in this portrait of Jane Thornagh.

[2] A pair of oval portraits of his patrons ‘Sir Edward Herbert (1583 – 1648), later 1st Baron Cherbury’ and ‘Sir Thomas Lucy (1584 – 1640’ at Charlecote Park (National Trust), referred to by Lord Herbert in his autobiography were first published as by Larkin by James Lees-Milne, ‘Two Portraits at Charlecote Park by William Larkin’, Burlington Magazine, XCIV, 1952, pp.352-356. Sir Roy Strong subsequently was the first to assemble his oeuvre around these two documented works.

[3] Most commonly spelt Thornagh, the name literally meant ‘thorn hedge’, a reversal of ‘hawthorn’, and was also sometimes written Thorney, and Thornaugh, probably deriving from the village of Thorney in Nottinghamshire, within a few miles of the city of Lincoln.

[4] Their son and heir, Colonel Francis Thornagh (1617 – 1648) distinguished himself during the Civil War as one of the county’s most brilliant soldiers, becoming the Colonel of his father’s regiment. He would lose his life in action, fighting for the Parliamentarian cause against the Duke of Hamilton’s army at the battle of Preston in Lancashire, impaled by a Scotsman’s lance.

This card is full of Paper Smooches goodness! I love these Paper Smooches dies on this card. First I watercoloured a panel with the colours (using pinks, soft creams and 2 shades of blue pearlescent watercolours) from the inspiration picture at Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge papersmoochessparks.blogspot.com/2014/10/october-12-18-pi.... After the panel dried, I die cut it with the hello die from the Quote Tag die set. I then covered the base of my card with woodgrain paper and created a white panel. This white panel was die cut with the Flower dies so it created a cascade on a diagonal. I then popped the white panel up with adhesive foam and also the sentiment. Finally, a sprinkling of DIY enamel dots (to match the colours in the picture) finished off the card. I am submitting this card to papersmoochessparks.blogspot.com/2014/10/october-12-18-pi...,http://www.wordartwednesday.blogspot.com/2014/10/challenge-154-anything-goes-with-odbd.html and thecuttingedgechallenge.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-cutting-...

Greg Minuskin re-tipped the broken nib, and completed restoration: installing a new diaphragm (part of the filling mechanism), polishing the cap and barrel, and re-plating the nib in the original two-tone pattern.

The pen is filled with Noodler's Ink Legal Lapis permanent ink, and shown here with a Seven Seas "Standard" A5 blank journal, thread-bound of Tomoe River paper, from Nanami Paper; "artisanal filler text" is by Hipster Ipsum.

We went back today to look for more of these little jewels (~3mm) and found them. We thought we would share some photos with you.

The third pair of legs (counted from the front) is important to these peacock spiders as they are bigger and longer than the rest and generally have a white tip. The legs are used to wave in the air to attract a female in the area. He will then lift his abdomen and perform a dance to give a good impression. If she likes what she sees, she will allow mating to occur. If she doesn't like what she sees, she will ignore the male.

This one in particular was on the move and it was quite interesting to watch as it moved from leaf to leaf on the ground, it stopped momentarily to lift its legs in the air to make itself more visible.

Representing the muscle of the Air Force, the ‘X-1’ Mustang is a heavenly matte-pearlescent painted supercar with a jet cockpit that includes a single-driver ejection seat in center of vehicle, short shifter, flight stick, and advanced instrumentation panel. The ‘X-1’ also has a concealed motorized steering wheel, custom foot pedals, GPS transponder and the innovative dash is equipped with a touch screen monitor and sensor pack that displays night and thermal vision. The 4.6 liter engine includes 3-valve Ford Racing heads, cold air intake, hot rod cams, and long tube headers creating 500hp and is maintained by a custom Ford Racing Tuning Program. The Vertical doors feature interior panel fabrication to complete the ‘jet-like’ feel of the ‘X-1’, which will appear on the East Coast portion of the Air Force recruiting tour.
