“Time is free, but it's priceless.
You can't own it, but you can use it.
You can't keep it, but you can spend it.
Once you've lost it, you can never get it back.”
- Harvey MacKay

The Swiss Guard provide ceremonial and 'real' security for the Vatican City. They can be found with halberds or automatic weapons, depending on their station in the City.

I was trying to grab some water shots when this boy decided to have some fun and provided me with this photo.
*Didn't have my zoom on so this was cropped to the composition I wanted.
This is a reflection shot of the Golden Hinde at St Marie Overie's Dock. I've rotated the image by 180 degrees so that it looks upright.
Shot at ISO 200 for 125 seconds at F/11
I would have preferred ISO 100 at F/16 but the exposure calculation was 500 seconds...

From WikiPedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Hinde
The Golden Hind was an English ship best known for its global circumnavigation between 1577 and 1580, captained by Sir Francis Drake. It was originally known as the Pelican and was renamed in mid-voyage 1577 by Drake as he prepared to enter the Straits of Magellan. He rechristened the ship the Golden Hind in a political gesture, to compliment his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton, whose armorial crest was a golden hind (in heraldry a "hind" is a doe).
[...]
A modern replica of the same ship was launched in 1973 and has travelled more than 140,000 miles (225 000 km), a distance equal to more than five times around the globe. Like the original, it circumnavigated the world. Since the 1990s it has been berthed at St Mary Overie's Dock, in Bankside, Southwark, London, close to Southwark Cathedral.

I caught up with Dan Laidlow aka Original Sin Photogaphry, for him to photograph me for the PIP Pay it Forward project.
I took the opportunity to grab a few snaps of Dan using th 85mm f1.8.
Up in the mornin', out on the job
Work like the devil for my pay
But that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll, roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman, toil with my kids
Sweat till I'm wrinkled and grey
While that lucky old sun got nothin' to do
But roll, roll around heaven all day
Lord above, can't you hear me pinin'?
Tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver linin'
Lift me up to Paradise
Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll, roll around heaven all day
Show me that river, take me across
Wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll around heaven
Let me roll around heaven
I just wanna roll around heaven
All day

Today Kirsten, Hayley, and I went to Sidepockets to play 8-ball. We went late to avoid the lunch crowd and, as you can see, they cleared out not long after we arrived.
I got the idea for this shot here.
Best viewed large.
Meet Plato. Or Playdoh. Marlena wouldn't say which one it is. I preferred Plato at first but after playing with him, he's definitely a Playdoh.
Although this sculpture is officially titled "Cloud Gate", it is known to Chicago residents simply as "The Bean." Artist Anish Kapoor was inspired by liquid mercury to create this 66-foot long by 33-foot high, 110-ton sculpture. It is forged of a seamless series of highly-polished stainless steel "plates" that create an elliptically-arched, highly reflective work with Chicago’s skyline and Millennium Park as the backdrop.
To see a different view of the area, look at Ale*'s photo of Millennium Park here.
On Saturday during our many slow periods because we didn't catch much in the nets, I expressed the wish to see an Indigo Bunting because I had never seen one in person before.
Yesterday we caught one and I got to hold and release it :-)))
This picture taken during CNY 2006 at my uncle house. She enjoy very much sitting in this hanging chair and refused to get out. Finally we have to offer her a biscuit in order to get her out.:)
This man was siting in his car at the Bolsa Chica Wildlife Reserve in southern California, enjoying the fresh air and minding his own business. Suddenly this pigeon jumped onto his car and started walking around as if he owned the whole thing. As you can see, the man was amused by the whole thing (as was I, of course). In the end the man won the battle as the pigeon could not get a good foothold and slid right off the car.

Part of my Shanghai set.
Wooden statue of Kasyapa, Tang Dynasty, AD 618-907, Shanghai Museum.
I am not sure which Kasyapa this is. According to some forms of Buddhism, Kasyapa was one of the earlier incarnations of Buddha, one of the seven incarnations prior to and including Gautama Sakyamuni. In other versions, Sakyamuni is always seen accompanied by two representations: Kasyapa (representing ascetism and practice) and Ananda (representing understanding and wisdom).
If someone can enlighten me on who this Kasyapa is, I'd be grateful.
I can't take credit for these photos--they were taken by supporters of the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, a World Class Drum Corps International group. My daughter auditioned for the Colorguard in May 2014 and marched the 2014 season with the Surf as a proud member of the Flagline. I got to see her perform live at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on July 17th.
This is a corner of our house, with two lamps and a large cloth wall hanging, through a glass sculpture. I bought it in Murano, Italy during my physics conference trip last summer.
It also looks like a shot of a woman's back with her curves. Doesn't it?
It's actually an elephant glass sculpture with gold flecks on an inner layer. I wanted to take a macro shot with glass as a medium for light to go through.
