Tule (pronounced Too-lee) Elk are endemic to California and are the smallest of the Elk species. Bulls typically stand at 5 ft (1.5 mts) tall at the shoulder and weigh between 400-700 lbs (181-318 kg), females are smaller averaging 4.5 ft (1.36 mts) at the shoulder and ranging from 350-425 lbs (160-193 kg). Only male Elk (bulls) have antlers, which are shed and regrown every year. The numbers of points (spikes) on the antler denote the maturity of the bull - Mature bulls (9.5-12.5 yrs) average 6x6 points.

In the desert areas of Morocco kasbah means a large, fortified estate home like a manor house in English or hacienda in Spanish. The beautiful Kasbah Ait Benhaddou has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and has been the location for many movies. It sits in a small oasis next to a mostly dry stream bed with towering hills of stone behind it.
When this cell formed to the east of the house, we literally paused what we were doing and I took out the IR camera to grab the sky details.

the sign says works. he does not. for a few minutes the city continues without him, the traffic, the noise, the endless construction. he leans against a pole and disappears into his phone. everyone does this. millions of times a day. we stand in one place and leave for another. the body remains. the mind travels. when he looks up again, nothing will have changed. except maybe everything.
as i drove home sunday evening, i saw this soybean field, illuminated in gold. i turned off the road and walked into the field. just me, the birds, the crickets, and the light. there are many chances to "pull off the road": to pause, notice, listen, and see.
