As spring has finally arrived and the sun was shining so beautifully today, I had to get out and take some pictures.

On paper, just a bit smaller than A3 size. This drawing is based on a photograph I took at the National Trust garden in 2004. A lovely shady path beneath a rhododendron canopy on a hot June afternoon.

The trunkless palm in the centre of the frame is Allagoptera caudescens (formerly Polyandrococos caudescens) from northeast Brazil.
The white plant on the left side of the path is Jacobaea (Senecio) maritima 'Silver Dust', a very common bedding plant in cool to warm temperate regions, originating from the western Mediterranean basin. It is somewhat surprising that it tolerates Brisbane's wet-summer, dry-winter subtropical climate.
I rather like having very uncommon and very common plants all mixed together.

Up to the mountain, and this path is wet all the time because the tiny stream beside it, and you can see the golden moss on the stone stair. It is a great mood while you are walking thru this path.

The path is going forward to the holy waterfall in lower Yubeng village. When you were walking on the path, you could feel that peaceful and hopeful.
The walking around the Dartington estate was a very spontaneous affair. I had a battle of wits with my mum who wanted to go one way around the garden and then the other however walking along the river was positively received. This path leads to another taking you into the estate where you can explore many paths.
Amsterdam Light Festival 2015
Every project at the festival tells a story with light, but no artist does it quite as sublimely as Ralf Westerhof, an Amsterdam artist who specializes in the interplay of lines – his big examples being Egon Schiele and Alexander Calder. Those who visited the festival two years ago, will recognize his style. In the 2013-2014 edition Ralf Westerhof also participated with Drawn in Light, but with this new project he manifests himself even more lavishly.
The work constists of colourful, 160 meters long lines of light that stretch out over the canal from bridge to bridge. While you are tranquailly sailing along in your boat, the work comes alive. Suddenly you feel as though you’re inside an animated cartoon and your eyes are the camera. All around you a story about friendship begins to unfold. The abstract lines are like a colourful linear diagram – every one of them has its own colour and represents a person. Lines moving towards each other are friendships growing. The lines also form figures that make up sculpture groups, representing certain stages of life. Paths Crossing is a universal story about paths that may cross, or run parallel to each other, sometimes for a short time, sometimes for life.
