The centre court of the Patchings Art, Craft and Design Festival 2005. These huge marquees formed a rectangular court, completely surrounding three sides. All three were full of exhibitions - a mix of artists working and selling, shops and manufacturers selling equipment and supplies, and demonstrations of how to use various things. On the whole, a very fun time. Sam's blogging it at PigPog now, so visit for the full story.
Julies Pierpoint Patches, Mayor of the City Dump (and host of a popular long-running children's program in the Puget Sound/British Columbia area from 1958 to 1981) arrives in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood to oversee the dedication of the JP Patches (and Gertrude) statue outside the Adobe building on the 50th anniversary of the show's first episode (August 17, 1958).
Chris Wedes, who played the beloved clown for twenty-eight years and has continued to use the role to aid Seattle Children's Hospital and other causes even after his retirement, is 80 now. But once he rounded the recreation of the City Dump set and saw the crowd of all the people waiting whose lives he'd touched as children, he looked like he lost twenty years of age. Wedes was accompanied by Bob Newman, who played every other role on the show, dressed in drag as Gertrude and carrying Esmerelda the doll.
