Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) pair in an amorous state prior to breeding. There were periods of gentle contact intermixed with biting along the neck of the female. Interesting behaviour to observed.

This took place during a guided trip to the K'tzim-a-deen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary in the Khutzeymateen Inlet along the west coast north of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada.

The inlet is about a 30 minute flight by float plane, north of Prince Rupert. The tour of 6 wildlife photographers (including myself) was 5 days long and run by Ocean Light II Adventures. We stayed at the entrance of the reserve in a 72 ft sail boat (Ocean Light II) and accessed the reserve daily in a 19 ft Zodiac and spent most of the day looking for grizzly bear activity.

Our guide was amazed at the number of times we encountered this mating behaviour. He indicated that it was quite unusual to see this many breeding encounters as the bears tended to be more secretive in his past experiences.

This time a shot of a pair of males. Peafowl of either sex are often referred to as Peacocks though the females are called Peahens. These terrestrial feeders nest on the ground, but roost in trees.

This was taken at a rookery at High Island, Texas. There were several species of water birds mating there, one of the most amazing places I've ever seen in my life. This pair was so beautiful to watch.

Une paire de rêve

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Yes, my first post is my favorite, but I loved the two together also. Yellow-bellied marmots, Shasta Valley Wildlife Area, California

Western Grebes are renowned for an elegant courtship dance where the pair run together over the water and dive at the end. I have yet to witness that display; the posture of the two birds in this image suggests the beauty and grace involved.

Clocked by all of the pairs, apart from the one I was shooting.

Violet is the most soothing, tranquilizing and cooling color vibration. It encourages the healing of unbalanced mental conditions in people who are overly nervous or high-strung. Foods of the violet vibration are: purple broccoli, beetroot and purple grapes. ~Tae Yun Kim

Violet goes better with Yellow:)

It is nice to find a male Wood Duck, and even nicer to find a pair of Woodies. They were resting up, getting ready for their flight south.

An adult and judging on the plumage, a ~3 year old. They were doing some calling but also leaving their beaks open to cool off on this hot and muggy morning.

It's rare I change my earrings...I have some nice ones, like these....but the small gold hoops are so easy to deal with, they rarely leave my ears. Shot for Macro Mondays "pair".

Acorn Woodpeckers with the female higher up and the male lower down, Mt. Shasta, California. She was the one making the racket this time.

The symmetry of two back-to-back locomotives of the same model lends a pleasing element to any railroad photo. Here a pair of Conrail C425’s works the yard in Altoona, while a duo of SD45’s arrives with an intermodal train from the east. It’s interesting that an auto rack has been added to the TOFC consist.

Sunshine at Summer Leys. Icy wind but nice colours

These spiders were close to each other, but they are colored so differently, I did not realize they were the same species until much later. Happy 26th of Arachtober!

A pair of B&P SD60Ms lead the MILL through the daylit tunnel east of Jewett after working the gas plant at Scio and swapping cars at Dennison. The B&P recently took delivery of a group of C44-9W and in return cast off the SD60Ms to the Ohio Central.

This tunnel was opened up by the Pennsy as part of an effort to eliminate tunnels on this section of the Panhandle Main west of Mingo Jct. and now only Gould Tunnel remains just outside of Mingo Jct
