Atlantic puffins mate for life and I was hoping to get a picture of a pair when I went to Sumburgh Head during the breeding season. My patience paid off with this photo of a pair on the cliffside with blooming sea pinks. Male and females look identical except the males are larger. Shetland, Scotland.

This is another version of the feathers I posted for Sliders Sunday. They are Cardinal feathers. For years, I hoped to find one of these in my back yard. This summer I found two. Our resident Cardinals lose some of their feathers every year and yet these are the first feathers I have from that bird species. It is fascinating to try to see the colors as I try to get the light just right to make the colors appear. I think this may be the muted colors of the female. This was a quick capture of the feathers but I will explore more ways to photograph them over the winter months as I set up my little indoor studio again. This cherished pair makes a wonderful addition to my feather collection.

Macro Mondays: Pair
GP10’s and U23C’s were common yard power at Conrail’s Enola yard. Seeing them paired with each other was a little more unusual.

I took this shot in late February; it was my first sighting of Wood Ducks this season at Huntley Meadows Park. This pair flew in and perched on the highest tree to survey the boardwalk and vicinity. They stayed about 90 seconds then departed.

Many thanks for all views, fav's - and particularly comments - all are greatly appreciated!
Happy Macro Mondays to you all!
Thanks to Dan, who pointed out this pair while they were still 100-yards out, I caught them as they flew by. It was five-minutes before sundown and I'd spent around 5-hours, over two-days, trying to get a flight shot of the buffleheads. They're so fast, maybe twice as fast as mallard, that it's very difficult to follow them and get the autofocus locked on. Anyway, thanks Dan.

Rajah shelduks are found in Australia and New Guinea. They pair up for life. I am told that if one of them dies the other one will also die.
After getting a pair of EMD standard cabs on a CP move heading into the Commercial, an eastbound light appeared on main 2 at Park Jct. I headed over to the Transitway to investigate and after not too much waiting the 281 and 1474 came around the corner with a transfer to the bluffs.
