Unfortunate mistake. Farmers' Market Ogden Utah Aug 27, 2022. I shot thison a great day - Kodacolor 400 from 1983. I shot it at EI 200 and then, mistakenly, thought I should adjust again in development and added 20 seconds ... ? The roll was extremely overdeveloped which was extremely disappointing because of the great shots. The negatives were impenetrable. Since I did bleach bypass I went back and washed the film, bleached with potassium ferricyanide for 8 minutes and then fixed again for 8 minutes. The negative came out much clearer, but as you can see with MUCH loss of detail and extremely flat. If my life was at stake, I guess we could say it worked, but most of the interesting stuff is gone.
However after seeing these results and some others, both mine and other folks' I think I'm arriving at with expired color film - adjust the light and compensate for age, etc. And then develop normally. We'll see what I do next.

Yeah, I should have saved it for Slider Sunday...but it is a fence...and it's Friday. This is a fence that goes downhill and just stops...There was snow on the ground, so it really did look like it went nowhere...I helped it a little with some post-processing. HFF!

I'm not a religious person but I came across this image from my archives and Good Friday seemed like the right day to upload it. It's a tad overprocessed for my tastes but I liked it at the time.

This brought me a 5.65 in the "Username" challenge at DPC this past week. Not too bad for something with an intentionally overprocessed treatment.
I got two slightly different shots/looks of this scenery. I can't decide which one I like more. What do you think?

The trees surrounding our camp doesn't allow for that golden hour light. These are the last of rays before the sun hits the tops of the trees.
I just ~love~ cypress trees. I wasn't able to get any shots in spring when they're bright green. And now they're turning colors. It's so pretty to see a line of these along the shores with all the pines behind them. It's a shame we couldn't take the boat out and get some landscape shots.
I bumped up the contrast thinking it looked good large but now I'm wondering if it looks overprocessed. You think? I might put the original in comments and you can tell me.

Walking around the mock-up of a space shuttle at NASA's astronaut training facility really drives it home just how big and awesome those things are!
To the left in this frame between the giant blue hydraulic thingy and the giant US flag on the far wall are all the Space Station module mockups from the different nations collaborating in the ISS. You can only see the tops of them from this position. If you want a really good view, take the public tour! The tour goes to a viewing area that looks directly onto the modules down at that end of the building.
This was the only other panorama I was able to shoot in the time we had to walk around the facility floor. For some odd reason they wouldn't let me wander at random and poke around just anywhere I wanted for as long as I liked. Gaaahhh!
So it's not really the perfect shot, but it does give a sense of how big that place is, and help you visualize just how huge the International Space Station is too.

Pretty sure I overprocessed the Moon insofar as producing a nice & well-composed image...
But I also kind of liked how otherworldly it feels; as if it's located much nearer within our atmosphere rather than well beyond it.

Lot's been going on........
Work has been hell.........but it's a job and I'm thankful to have it. It's a major challenge for me.
Adrian failed two recent hearing tests......have an Audiology appointment on the 3rd. Hopefully we can find out if THIS is what is causing the speech issues. I have often wondered if maybe it truly was a hearing problem. He is getting much better at the school I have him in. I had him in public school and well....that wasn't working too well. I switched him to a great Montessori school. It's not cheap but its worth it and he has come a long way in such a short time. He also has a double ear infection which he has been basically been chronically getting since he was a year old. This too is another problem that may be causing both the hearing problems and speech issues. This recent doctor said to get him allergy tested.......so that too is on my agenda. LOL
Missing mom...this is her holiday and it's kind of hard to get into "spirit". I decorated this year for Adrian and for her. I am also remembering that its about Jesus....the reason for the Season. ;o)
I have Adrian holding on to "HOPE".......and together we are sending HOPE to you for the coming year!

*Side note.......it was actually REALLY cold when I took this photo. I asked Adrian to come outside and he was like "Hurry up mom my EYES are too cold". It was about 45 degrees which for the Florida Keys.......is VERY cold. lol
One of my Black-breasted Buzzard pair flies home with a nice new carpet for the nest.
Some raptors line their nests with fresh eucalypt leaves when they are in residence, it's thought that this might be to reduce parasites as an antiseptic. It certainly improves the looks.
The light was harsh which partly explains the hard look. It might also be a bit overprocessed.
This pair of Black-breasted Buzzards were nesting in a large euc on the bank of the Lyons River, 100m upstream from the road crossing. (The river was not running as is normal outside rain times, but there were a few waterholes with water). The birds seemed to be in the initial stages of nesting, or had just laid and were waiting to lay more. Not much sitting was going on, and no feeding. I watched them for a couple of hours on two days as we camped 10km away. A pair of Whistling Kites had set up nest exactly opposite in an even taller tree.
A Blue Heron on the shores of Pierce Lake in Rock Cut State Park, Illinois.
It is America's largest species of heron, standing over 3ft tall with a wingspan of nearly 7ft.
I tried to show restraint in the processing of this pic, because it really didn't need much. But also because I took a bunch of pics of this guy (and two of his friends), so I've got plenty of material that I can apply my overprocessed look to some other time.
I swear I haven't been doing nothing this summer! Here's the last couple of weeks of canning, buffed and waiting for labels. We've got peach salsa, cascabel peach barbecue sauce, some watery crushed tomatoes, and nine-chile salsa. There are untold hours of chopping representing in these jars. Salsa is a bear, yo.

It's so great to have a focal range of (24 to 364); having such a focal range is so useful, especially for traveling and just everyday documentation/shooting, this little Sony HX9v has become my favorite, all around, take-everywhere-with me camera.
I have used other highly rated point and shoot cameras like the Sigma DP2s, Ricoh GRD III, Leica DLux (4,5) and Panansonic LX (3,4). I'm not a technical reviewer, but I do shoot a lot and I personally find the SONY having an edge over the other cameras—compared to the other compacts I mentioned, a. Sony covers an extensive focal range, b. I love Sony's Panoramic mode, c. I like Sony's "background blur" effect that actually works quite well.
And, above all, somehow, Sony has the fastest focus. I can shoot my kids on a swing (daytime) all day long without getting a single blurry pic. This was quite hard to achieve with the other point and shoot. Again, I need to mention that one issue I have with Sony is how SLOW it takes to change modes. Otherwise, it would have been one of the most responsive compacts I have used.
Image quality wise, it's impressive (for a small sensor size, compact). It's sharp when shooting up close; it's seemingly sharp when shooting landscape shots but if you zoom in at 100% you will see the workings of the image processor—some areas look good but some areas look downright ugly and overprocessed. That said, the overall image quality for web posting and small-medium prints will be fine.
…more thoughts to come later.
This is what happens I overprocess the same picture 64 times. I'll bet it would look very different on your 64th time.
