I had never thought before about built-and-rebuilt this wall looks. The part with the red mortar looks Byzantine, and now I'm wondering if the conquering Ottomans found an existing Byzantine wall here and either smashed through the gate while invading or knocked a hole through the wall later to put their grand marble gate in.
I took this yesterday at the Outer Harbor. I really like the view from this particular spot, even though of necessity I had to capture the image from the wrong side of a chain link fence (which you can see toward the bottom). I'm a week or two behind in my photo editing, but I still felt like sharing this. My actual edit of the RAW file is forthcoming!
