The menu at Sarge's Deli - I've had my eye on an eating challenge recently added to their menu - the Monster sandwich, billed as "New York's Largest Sandwich".

As of a few weeks ago, no one person had successfully eaten an entire Monster - so I started training by ordering 2 of their combo sandwiches, eating a pastrami/corned beef combo for lunch, and a turkey/roast beef combo for dinner - figuring that the Monster would be roughly equal to two combo sandwiches put together...

Working in my benefit was the fact that there was NO time limit on the challenge, unlike many of the food challenges seen on Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food" - so all I'd have to do would be to eat my fill, then sit at the table until I felt hungry again.

Simple, right? I mean, the deli's open 24 hours, so with no time limit, this would be a cakewalk, a slam-dunk.

Coming up: Life lessons learned from consuming a giant sandwich...

We are working with partners to ensure our communities feel safe in the places they call home.

After speaking with residents, we identified several properties that were linked to anti-social behaviour and criminal activity in the Freehold neighbourhood.

On Friday 5 July, we secured closure orders for two properties. The order will last for 3 months.

Inspector Meena Yasin from GMP Rochdale said: “We have spoken to residents who have been unable to sleep at night, who are scared to carry out everyday activities within their own homes as a result of anti-social behaviour and the criminal activity of a small number of individuals exploiting the neighbourhood.

"Securing these closure orders is a really important step in creating positive change in the area, and we have been working closely with local residents and RBH to proactively tackle issues linked to these properties.

“We will always take action and work with our partner agencies to ensure those who engage in anti-social or nuisance behaviour are dealt with robustly and I would like to thank everyone who has opened their door and welcomed us into their houses, taken the time to speak to us, and contributed to our intelligence picture which has led to these results.

“There is palpable community spirit in this area, created by residents who have lived here for decades. We are working with them to rid the area of criminality.”

Palais Augarten - "a place of recreation" for Archduke Otto

Hierarchies, pecking orders, family traditions also determined the homes of family members. Yet why was Archduke Otto in the Augarten comfortabler living than the heir to the throne?

The site on which there is the Palais Augarten until today, served the Habsburgs yet at the beginning of the 17th Century as a hunting ground. Joseph II bought the site together with the palace and had thereon expanded this. In the same year, in 1775, he made his nickname of "people's emperor" all honor and made the park accessible to the population. "All people dedicated Erlustigungs (enjoyment) site of their cherisher," the Regent let, as there is still read today, write for the occasion on the front gate of the Augarten.

From 1860 to 1863, the brother of Franz Joseph Karl Ludwig lived in the Augarten Palace. 1867, High Steward Konstantin Prince Hohenlohe moved to the Augarten. Under him, and especially thanks to his wife, the estate has developed into a cultural center frequented by famous people such as Richard Wagner, Franz Liszt and Hans Markart. End of the 19th Century Franz Joseph assigned his nephew Archduke Otto the palace together with his own royal household, royal kitchen and Lipizzaners as to residence. Otto lived so comfortabler than his older brother Franz Ferdinand, who was, after the death of Crown Prince Rudolf in 1889 the heir to the throne, after all. But him was only assigned the Palais Modena in Vienna Herrengasse. Why?

Franz Ferdinand suffered from tuberculosis, so it was a long time uncertain whether he would actually be able to succeed to the throne. Franz Joseph, his potential successor had a distant relationship, only too happy to involve his favorite nephew Otto increasingly in the business of government in order to relieve the sick brother. It was obvious that Francis Joseph had the charming Otto preferred as successor. But Franz Ferdinand recovered from his illness. The old order of succession was thus already restored, when in 1899 the Palais Augarten has been extensively renovated and expanded for Otto. There he devoted himself to his favorite hobbies, to painting and photography, before he died at the age of 41. His son, Archduke Carl Franz Joseph was as Charles I the last Emperor of Austria.

Where once Archduke Otto had lived settled in 1923 the famous Augarten porcelain manufactory. In addition, live, learn and play music since 1948, the Vienna Boys Choir here. A place of amusement, as it Joseph II had wished for himself and to which it also made Otto with his cheerful way of life, the Augarten is today.

During the Second World War Maiden Newton was recognised as an important railhead for the D Day preparations. In recognition of this important role that Maiden Newton played during WW2 a group of local residents decided to put on an event in June 2008 called Maiden Newton at War. I have a weakness for tong but lup, even thought I'm not a fan of coconut. There's something so satisfying about the crumbs of shrededd coconut, finely chopped peanuts and sugar that coats pieces of diced warm and chewy glutinous rice dough. I love how that sandy sweet texture is such a great juxtaposition against the sticky, bland bubblegum like mochi. Contrasts in flavours, textures and colours are important to me. Tong but lup scores high on this scale. Too bad this one was served on the cold side. Oh well, it was still delicious.

I recently came across an online business called Holy Orders, which sells products made by various monasteries around the world. While I'm not particularly religious myself, I just think monks and nuns tend to make a damn fine product.

Holy Orders sells items like luxe chocolates and skin care products from monks in Italy, spicy cardamom tea from a monastery in Northern California, Trappist preserves, honey, and fine linen (I especially like the handkerchief embroidered with "Bless You"...ha ha). Each order comes in a linen sack with a small tag that says "A Little Blessing" and a tiny scroll thanking you for your business. It's pretty goofy and kitschy, but I love it (Perhaps BECAUSE it's goofy and kitschy). Check out their logo, which is a nun riding a tractor!
