November 20, 2022 - New York City - Governor Kathy Hochul issued a proclamation declaring November Transgender Awareness Month to celebrate the trans community in New York State and across the country. Governor Hochul today announced that flags on state government buildings will be flown at half-staff starting today in honor of the victims of the mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs. The Governor also announced that New York State landmarks will be lit pink, white and light blue on Sunday, November 20 in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance. Landmarks lit tonight in New York City include the spire and base of One World Trade Center, Moynihan Train Hall, and the Kosciuszko Bridge. (Kevin P. Coughlin / Office of the Governor)
Nijō Castle was built between 1601 and 1626 on the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu, to serve as an official residence of the shoguns when visiting Kyoto and it also served as as a base for where the Bakufu could keep a watchful eye on the Imperial Court. A strong shogunal residence in the heart of the imperial capital was meant to shock and awe everybody and act as a deterrent to any scheming between the imperial court and the western daimyo. Various parts of Fushimi Castle, including the main keep and one of the gates (karamon) were moved to Nijō Castle in 1625-26. Unfortunately, the keep burnt down when it was struck by lightning in 1791.
The 3,300 square meter Ninomaru Palace is almost like a “living” art history museum. Built in the shoin style of architecture from cypress wood adorned with lots of gold leaf, its sliding doors and walls are beautifully decorated with Kanō school-style landscapes of plants and animals on the walls and sliding doors. It was in this palace that the 15th and final shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, resigned his post and announced that he was returning the country back to imperial rule in late 1867.
Playing around w/my Leica D-Lux 4 in macro mode and different perspectives. Of course when my wife came outside and saw me laying down in the flowerbed on the patio she asked me what I was doing... Ah the life of a photographer...
With the additional help of interference colour orders - do I see at least 4-5 orders here? - you can estimate the thickness of an inclusion, like this one in Selvino quartz. Mostly reflected, polarised light, FOV=0,8mm.
I find the world of inclusions endlessly variable and fascinating, especially in polarised light...
Subtitled: Following Doctors' Orders
[For 52 Weeks Of Feeling Fit and Songs In The Key Of Life]
Knowing fully well that there'd be another online demonstration to rival the Smiley Icon Demonstrations Of 2010 otherwise, I'm including (thanks to Ralph) a shot of karaoke posse member moi.
I assure you that karaoke is very much a part of my fitness regimen. EVERY SINGLE MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL I have seen since I started warbling has either supported or downright encouraged me to keep attending.
It's not such a strange prescription if you stop and think about it: I've often walked to karaoke and am stepping up the the number of times that I do so. I live alone - but am never alone when I go out. In fact, i can actually gauge BOTH my mental and physical health by my actions and interactions at the k-bar. That is no lie.
So like any good patient, I am doing my best here to follow medical orders. As a side note, in my lifetime I have had two different doctors in two entirely different cities tell me I NEEDED to be in a relationship. I'm quite eager to see about getting THAT prescription filled - not to mention sticking some insurance company with a bill for a 5-star romantic getaway for two to someplace tropical. (Hmmmm. I wonder if I should be saving my food, bar and karaoke night cover charges tabs for the same reason......)
I haven't a clue precisely which song I'm doing here. But I have a guess. And given my inability to get that other prescription taken care of, the song is especially appropriate (not to mention the fact singing it helps me drastically improve my lung function...)
Ain't No Sunshine
as performed by Bill Withers
(with a special shoutout to Lenny Kravitz' kick ass version with orchestration, which I just heard for the first time while searching for a clip)
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away.
Wonder this time where she's gone,
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away.
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
Hey, I ought to leave the young thing alone,
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone, only darkness everyday.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone,
And this house just ain't no home anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
Anytime she goes away.
It's midnight and the midnight elves have come to help the tired old toymaker, who is behind in his orders for Christmas Day. Although the elves have very good intentions, they do not seem to be providing very much help. Wrong heads are being put onto the wrong bodies, paint is being squooshed out of tubes, and general mayhem and disarray abounds. The toymaker is asleep under the patchwork quilt on the right side and knows nothing - you can just see his hot waterbottle poking out under the patchwork quilt. The scene was made to accomodate an overhead rotating shaft and cam system to allow some simple up and down motion between the cams and objects below which are connected by fishing lines. When this is done, the toymaker's patched quilt can be made to rise and fall gently with his breathing, as well as accompanying snoring sounds. The toys on the shelves can also be connected with fishing lines to the cams to create some extra movement with gentle tugs on the fishing lines as the cams rotate. The other elves at the table can provide hammering and painting motions. Otherwise the scene is entertaining as a 'catured moment' diorama.
An original design and creation by StudioM made in our tinshed home studio at Tinbeerwah in 2003. Copyright held. Sold to a promotion company as it is pictured WITHOUT copyright transfer. Any claims by this company and its director to be the 'creative force' and 'mastermind' behind it would be false and deceptive and against our copyright. This scene also features the first mouse that we asked Juanita to make to our design and instructions. We developed these with her with each new scene that we made after this one until they were perfected as in our later scenes.

I like this it's kind of like an arm of the pink comforting the aqua... LOL, I'm becoming weird, I know this...

It should be noted that where you see the crest of Japan's imperial family (chysanthemum ), the three-leafed hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa family once stood. After the Meiji Restoration, the new imperial government went out of its way to remove any traces of the shogunate, as Nijo Castle became "imperial" property.
