Portrait of a friend using an Orbisâ„¢ ring flash. The ring flash makes for some centered catchlights and a cool halo shadow. The crop is deliberately funky. Some may like it, some may not. I like it.

BTW, for those of you holding your breath, I’ve done a selfie and will be posting it sometime this weekend.

No hubo mucho tiempo para afinar mucho y por eso la falta de enfoque fino y el uso de una sensibilidad tan alta.

No time for much razor sharp focus on this one I'm afraid, hence the soft look and the high ISO.

Orbis Ring Flash on SB-800 on camera

The main light here is the OrbisRingFlash on camera left. The other SB800 is under the tray covered with the Softbox III and an addictional white A4 sheet, for a better diffusion of the light. these are soft plastic lures, they look a bit like grubs and this is what I tried to reproduce, grubs crawling among the rotten leaves.... :-)

The lure is sitting behind the Orbis Flash, this is why I call it background/foreground, is both things at once. The black hole is the background and the white ring is the foreground, or frame if you will. Just a different way to shoot a product, hope you like it

Just sharing a few photos I shot from Halloween celebrations this year. Enjoy!

Blog | Twitter | Facebook.

Alright, I know, this has been done before, probably often, but I couldn't resist. Nikon D300s 55mm, 1.250 @f7.1 and SB900 in Orbis Ring Flash.

My compact strobe tends to slide out the orbis when I hand-hold the unit. I could have used velcro or foam rubber to prevents this, but I don't like to put to much sticky stuff on my equipment.

So I put two pieces of inner tube from an old bicycle over the two small wings that hold the strobe in place. It does the job, frankly speaking its even a little hard to get the strobe in the Orbis.

Strobist info: shoot through umbrella (Westscott collapsible), pocket wizards, Nikon Coolpix P5100 hand hold. Umbrella above camera right, white board on camera left.

Picked up some new speakers to replace my old Sony home theater in a box speakers. This photo is the ProMonitor 800 Bookshelf speaker by Definitive Technology. What a difference! It's like night and day. Center channel is now ProCenter 1000 by Definitive Technology as well.

So I've began rock climbing. I got some cheap shoes and I'm addicted. The shoes fit a foot surprisingly well and are crazy tight.

I was trying the lighting from David Hobby's asparagus shot.

I shot the shoe on top of a mini-fridge because I wanted it black and it had a rough texture.

This summer I have been doing quite a number of shots for Molix' new products and experimented with different lighting setups. Here I have my usual SB800, one is through the Orbis Ring Flash on camera left and you can clearly see the reflection on the eye of the lure. The other one goes through a Lastolite EzyBox and is positioned slightly above and behind the lure, in fact I wanted it to create a clear area over the black vinyl background and to illuminate the irregular areas as well. For the sake of a change, since the lure was white pearl anyway, I edited everything in B&W

You must see large. 100%. Excuse the fact I didn't totally clean Ami's nose beforehand. But check out the sharpness and colour definition on her mouth.

Haven't really shot the Mamiya with flash much at all. Testing it out with the Orbis Ringflash.

Have out this up at full size so you can see the insane level of sharpness.

Yes I am still using my Orbis Flash... James Madelin thank you for creating this product. I can't stop using it.

I was fixing Ethan's computer over the weekend. Needed to replace his video card. Instead of just buying him a new video card, might as well kill two birds with one stone! :) I gave his computer my EVGA nVidia GeForce 8800GT and bought me this bad boy. Needless to say we are both happy. Ethan didn't say he was happy, but I know he is. lol
