Havent seen Lena since she modelled at a workshop earlier in the year. We shot a few in the streets around Ueno after having spent some time up in the park messing with the medium-format and tilt-shift rig. Those shots coming in a little while.

Yesterday I was trying my new toy, the Orbis Ring Flash on humans.... I mixed it with the Lastolite 40" Umbrella Box, one of my current favourite light modifier and did a bit of a session with my young nephews and nices. First of all I must say that is quite a lot of fun to use. I'm not 100% sure how to get the best out of it or how to make a certain kind of image like I saw in the Orbis Flickr group, yet I enjoy playing with it. Second, is quite a powerful tool. There's not much power drain on it, in fact I might have screwed the lighting mix between main and fill light even when playing with quite a difference power on the SB600. This young guy is just 16 and knows a deal of posing in front of a camera, and..he's got the face! I like this image, but is just me. What do YOU think?
Enjoyed spending a bit of time in my new back garden this weekend, had a wee project to do that hopefully the client will like. I took a few secs out to shoot these snowdrops. Lit with a 430 exii off camera, with an orbis to defuse it. Lovely.
My new Cactus v4s arrived, along with my lighting kit, so here is my first attempt!
Strobist : flash bounced into white umbrella behind him to the left, and orbis ring flash from the front.
That's right, today I was on an experimenting mood and I decided to try a studio HDR. This is 7 takes combined where the exposure always stays the same and the flash power changes of 1 stop for every take. I first mixed them in Photomatix and finally edited in Lightroom. I enjoied doing it but to be honest I don't think is necessary at all.

For the making of this image I had a transparent tray covered with fallen leaves. Under the tray an SB800 through a Lumiquest Softbox III plus an addictional white sheet A4 to achieve a more even spread of light. The light for the lure is on camera left, an SB800 through the Orbis Ringflash.

Here's a sneak preview of a little seasonal number I'm working on.
Used an Orbis Ring flash, off camera - Angled at 45 degrees, up high with a silver reflector down low on the right.
A lot of post to get the effect but didn't have to do much to the lighting!
Another shot of this lure, so this time you can see its "angry face". One of the main reasons why I love the OrbisFlash is because its highlights are easy reognizable, kind of "brand logo". Here the ring flash is visible in its forehead and in the eye.
