Watching for his dinner. Opus will turn eighteen this year, well beyond the life expectancy of a saki monkey.

Listen to your beat. 72 times a minute.
Close your eyes and listen.
It may turn the clamorous voices in your head into a melodic opus.
Magnum Opus means “Great Work” and derives from the legendary alchemist search for the Philosopher’s Stone. The Philosopher’s Stone was said to be the key element needed to turn lead into gold or attain great wisdom and longevity.
The way the light strikes this stone reminded me of that fable.
The floor in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy is composed of ornate patterns of marble tiles - some of which date back to the 12th Century.

A cliche, I know. But we just got home, I'm tired, and it's the first shot I saw that seemed Flickr-worthy.
We had so much fun; and some really good travel luck:
--Used travel vouchers for the flight
--Rented a car for a spontaneous trip to Napa Valley and were upgraded to a convertible.
--Got into a wine tasting without a reservation
--It just happened to be at one of our favorite vineyards: Opus One
--We were able to catch an earlier flight out of Phoenix, so instead of a 7 hour layover it was only 3 hours.
--Our luggage even made it to Denver
--In fact, it got on an even earlier flight and was waiting for us at baggage claim.
--We made it to the kennel just as they were closing and got to pick up Ollie tonight
How lucky are we?
Oh, and a bonus: Yesterday, I was able to buy Tom Waits tickets.
I've been trying to see him in concert for about 10 years!
Curator’s Statement
Yong Sook Kim-Lambert’s large-scale color-field paintings are interspersed with shadowy figures that seem to suggest a foreboding and loneliness, while at the same time incorporating power and prophesy. Her work is a visual tapestry, with layers of both watercolor and acrylic used to emphasize her emotional expressionism. The artist freely uses Korean and Chinese calligraphy, as well as cutting from newspapers and magazines to strengthen her design qualities. While our Western culture does not allow us to interpret the text literally, the presence of these enigmatic characters speaks to us of our cultural differences and the alienation and disconnection that minorities encounter daily. These works are Kim-Lambert’s bold statements to society and civilization.
I have been in awe and an admirer of Yong Sook’s work for many years. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is honored to present Yong Sook Kim-Lambert: East Meets West, an exhibition that gives southern Pennsylvania an opportunity to see and enjoy the work of this prominent 21st century artist.

Opus sectile is a technique where, instead of having lots of individual tesserae, shapes in a picture are made from larger, specially cut pieces, usually of tile or stone. It is a practice that goes back to ancient Greece and Rome. This exceptionally fine example of opus sectile dates to 1701, and it forms the front of the Altar in the chapel made from St Dominic's cell in Santa Sabina, Rome.

A Chicago Transit Authority NovaBus LFS leaving on a southbound route 91-Austin run to Roosevelt passes Optima Opus bus #544, laying over between runs at the Jefferson Park Transit Center on Chicago's far Northwest Side. The facility is a major transit hub, served by several CTA and Pace bus lines, the Blue Line 'L', and Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line. It's hard to believe, but the Novas are currently the oldest buses in-service with CTA, and will most likely be retired in the next few years. Interestingly, #544 does not have a bike rack, which otherwise is standard equipment on all CTA buses. Whether it's been removed, or the bus just never had one is unknown to me. Its LED destination board is also displaying a sideways-scrolling message announcing (as of 2006!) "The New CTA Bus ... 61 Seats".
