Yong Sook Kim-Lambert’s large-scale color-field paintings are interspersed with shadowy figures that seem to suggest a foreboding and loneliness, while at the same time incorporating power and prophesy. Her work is a visual tapestry, with layers of both watercolor and acrylic used to emphasize her emotional expressionism. The artist freely uses Korean and Chinese calligraphy, as well as cutting from newspapers and magazines to strengthen her design qualities. While our Western culture does not allow us to interpret the text literally, the presence of these enigmatic characters speaks to us of our cultural differences and the alienation and disconnection that minorities encounter daily. These works are Kim-Lambert’s bold statements to society and civilization.
I have been in awe and an admirer of Yong Sook’s work for many years. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is honored to present Yong Sook Kim-Lambert: East Meets West, an exhibition that gives southern Pennsylvania an opportunity to see and enjoy the work of this prominent 21st century artist.

This month’s challenge called I Smell A (Modern) Rat asks us what would rat rodding be like if we applied the same principles to modern cars. For this I chose a Dodge Magnum with a V-8 Hemi. Instead of a more predictable post-apoc Mad Max look, I went with a beach combing car with rugged tires, wood paneling, and a nonexistent roof and tailgate. Just enough rust and patina adds a bit of well loved character while a wooden deck and benches gives this “Magnum Opus” a boat-like appearance that’s suitable for fishing, surfing, or just soaking up some rays. Its the perfect modern rat rod for a hot summer day!

This is at Le Chateau de Versailles in the cathedral area. I'm peeved that it's so blurry - it looks so much better on an iPhone screen! I do enjoy the tones however, and it brings me back that sense of wonderment that followed me everywhere I went in Paris.

Here is the first one of the year.
I am not completely satisfied but the day was good.
A paint without constraint, just a training....
Thanks Dater and the others for the invitation.

Opus 40 is a man-made outdoor sculpture park and architectural marvel created by Harvey Fite in Saugerties, NewYork. Made entirely of local bluestone and using no mortar or connecting masonry at all, the project took thirty-seven years to make entirely by one man. Unfortunately Fite never finished his masterpiece; in the 37th year of the 40-year project Fite died. It is indeed one of the most stunning pieces of environmental art I've ever seen.

Marquis de Sade is often referred as Opus Sadicum, In later times, to avoid censorship, his works were given the generic title "Opus Sadicum" : 'Work/Book by/from (de) Sade'.
For example "Opus Sadicum : a philosophical romance." is the title of the first English translation of "Justine", printed in the Netherlands.
