Just over 200 coaches turned up for the FA Cup semi-final between Coventry City and Manchester United on Sunday 21st April 2024. Among the arrivals were 27 deckers, 20 Ridleys, 10 Catteralls and 10 24-registration coaches. A great day had by all!!

When we were discussing options for this year's autumn hiking adventure, it almost seemed like there was nothing left in northern Scandinavia that we all still wanted to explore. However, after some discussions, we realized that Finnish Lapland might be an interesting and convenient location for our regular autumn outdoor pursuits.

After conducting some research and planning, we narrowed our focus to Finland's northwest, bordering Sweden and Norway. More specifically, we honed in on the Käsivarsi Wilderness Area, which happens to be the second-largest wilderness area in Finland.

-----

Käsivarsi is somewhat atypical for Finland due to its higher elevation (Finland's highest peak, Halti (1,324m), is located in its northern tip), rugged terrain, and limited wooded areas. This combination sounded particularly attractive to us because it meant we would hike across various types of landscapes, both on and off marked trails.

Our itinerary was as follows: Kilpisjärvi/Saana mountain -> Tshahkaljärvi lake -> Siktagurajohka river -> Meekonjärvi lake including trip to Pitsusköngäs waterfall -> Porojärvi lake including ascent of Saivaara cliff -> Guhturgurajávri/Termisjärvi lakes -> Ailakkajärvi lake -> Kilpisjärvi.

Which dress do I wear tonight ?? do I take option 1 or option 2 ??

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird was a gem, a real eye catcher. I have never seen one in this color but this Bird wears it well. This iconic classic was displayed at the 2021 Basehor-Linwood High School Car Show held in Basehor Kansas.

Both the Ford Thunderbird and Chevrolet Corvette were built during the post-war economic boom of the 1950s, and initially, both had sporty-looking bodywork despite their lack of sports car-like characteristics. Both were initially built on passenger car underpinnings and were fairly expensive, but compared to the Corvette, the Thunderbird was endowed with luxury in sports car clothing.

The Ford Thunderbird was introduced in 1955, and during its first year, a total of 16,155 examples were sold against the Corvette's 700. The Thunderbird had V-8 performance, elegance, and class. For 1956, the Thunderbird received slight refinements and for 1957 it grew a fin. For 1958, the Thunderbird was completely redesigned and built as a four-seater personal luxury car. The 1957 Thunderbird was the final year for the original concept of Ford's Corvette competitor.

The 1955 Thunderbird was a two-seater based on production sedan components. It was built for cruising and personal transportation with no pretensions of being a sports car. The 1957 Ford Thunderbird was the most popular of all the Thunderbird two-seaters, with 21,350 examples built. Of those, 997 (some sources state 1,499 examples) were high-performance E-code cars. The E-Code had the 312 cubic-inch overhead valve V-8 engine with dual Holley four-barrel carburetors and delivered 275 horsepower. They had a unique dual air cleaner, aluminum intake manifold, modified heads and cam, and heavy-duty Ford-O-Matic transmission. Braking was provided by power-assisted hydraulic four-wheel drums. Cars with this option are often known as 'E-Birds' and 997 were built in 1957.

The 1957 Ford models were introduced on October 1st of 1956.

With the additional 6.1-inch length, the Ford designer's returned the spare tire to the trunk, and it rode on 14-inch wheels. This gave the 1957 Thunderbird a lower riding stance. The interior received a new engine-turned dash, a safety-oriented 'Lifeguard Design,' a padded dashboard, a dished steering wheel, and updated upholstery treatments. Six engine options were offered, an additional leaf was added to the rear springs, 14-inch wheels, and larger front brakes were among numerous engineering changes.

NASCAR relaxed its engine rules for 1957, allowing the use of enhanced induction systems including superchargers and fuel injection. In a letter dated November 26, 1965, to the Ford Executive Committee, Ford Division General Manager Robert S. McNamara championed an internal engine development program 'deemed essential to the maintenance of the Ford car and Thunderbird performance reputation.' As Chevrolet was developing its fuel injection system, McNamara recommended, on behalf of the Ford Engineering Office, 'the installation on the 312 cubic-inch 4-valve carburetor engine of a new design McColluch supercharger for use on the Ford car and Thunderbird....which would provide operational characteristics equal to or better than any fuel injection system at present-day development. The supercharger option would carry a rating of 300 horsepower.'

An initial production run of just one hundred vehicles was proposed by McNamara to satisfy NASCAR homologation requirements, and the Daytona Beach speed Trials of early February 1957 were selected for its competition debut. This was the birth of the Ford Motor Company Supercharger Program, which mandated the production of 65 Ford Custom Two-Door Sedans, 20 Ford Convertibles, and 15 Thunderbirds. All 15 Thunderbirds were hand-built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant on January 25th of 1957, fitted with the 312 cubic-inch single carburetor engine, McCulloch VR57 Phase 1 supercharger, a heavy-duty three-speed manual transmission, seat belts, and a fiberglass hardtop.

One of the Phase 1 Thunderbirds set a new record for American sports cars with a speed of 138.755 mph, a 6 mph improvement over the previous year's record set by Corvette.

Having proven the performance potential of the supercharger, Ford management approved a milder version for regular production and a total of 194 examples were built. These became known as 'F-Birds' for the letter in the serial number denoting a supercharged engine. Although identified within Ford as the 'Phase 1 Supercharger Thunderbirds,' the supercharged racing versions were equipped with a single-carburetor engine resulting in its popular identification as the 'D/F Bird.' Of the 15 original examples built, eight are known to exist.

Thinking of giving James some new hair so she doesn't look too much like my mini-me! Options are:

1. MSR scalp - I think this would be cute, but not sure about colouring?

2. Saffy scalp (which would mean giving my MSR her stock hair, as she is wearing the Saffy scalp at the moment) - this would mean James would be more like her twin Hotaru!

3. Cut the fringe/bangs shorter, but keep hair stock.

4. Leave it as it is.

Caaaaan't decide.

Pictures 2-4 are not mine, please let me know if you want yours removed!

1. Birthday present from Malcolm <3, 2. Peekaboo, 3. Who are you?, 4. Chocolate

Called: (7/15)

First off, I want to thank you so much for extending the deadline, I really appreciate it. Secondly, I'm sorry for all the options. I got my new camera and I'm IN LOVE with it and I mean IN LOVE.

Anyway, for my photo, I wanted to do something very different. I decided to play with shadows a bit since I thought it would really work well with this theme. I also wanted to make Audrey sexy but in a very subtle way. I hope you like it.

"So far in the competition, I haven't really made any friends. I think it's because the other girls don't see me as a threat and expect me to go home soon.

This week we had to be sexy call girls and to be quite honest, I was petrified. I never considered myself sexy in the slightest. After seeing my photos though, I think I've changed my mind. I look HOT :) I think the other girls better watch out 'cause I may be bigger competition than they expected ;) "

There are many towns in the world that go by the handle “Highland Park.” New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Florida all contain Highland Parks. So do the countries of New Zealand and Canada. We will spend the next 36 hours in the Highland Park located in northeast Los Angeles, California - a low-key working-class neighborhood with an exciting variety of dining and cultural options.

Friday

6pm: We start our weekend with a drink at Johnny’s on York Boulevard (4). The place is full. The speakers are buzzing at a moderate volume with the bass line from Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge.” The foosball and pool tables make for great entertainment whether you're playing or just spectating. There's a nice not-trying-too-hard-to-be-cool vibe to the place.

8pm: You won't find any pizza in LA both better and cheaper than the Neapolitan-style pies at Folliero's (3). On most nights you're sure to catch a glimpse of Titina Folliero, whose father Tony started the restaurant in 1968. These days there are post-impressionist paintings of Los Angeles on the brick walls, which are earthquake-retrofitted with several massive I-beams. Dinners here are a solid tradition among local families. Some patrons say they have been coming since "before they were born"!

9:30pm: Across the street from Folliero’s is an old dive bar and bowling alley called Mr. T’s Bowl. Perhaps the best thing about this place is the sound man Arlo. Bands have been named after him. He seems to have no last name, even to his good friends. Arlo is renowned among the indie musicians of Los Angeles for A) giving a hoot, B) not being totally deaf, and C) being an extremely good egg. Between bands he spins Dave Brubeck and the Breeders.

Saturday

8am: Saturday morning breakfast is at Café de Leche, about two doors down from Johnny’s on York. Café de Leche is about as trendy as Highland Park gets. We would guess this is due to the proximity of Occidental College and the more affluent neighborhoods of Eagle Rock. The coffee is great, as are the pastries.

10am: Highland Park is a small neighborhood, quite navigable by bike. The Flying Pigeon both sells and rents bicycles (ask for Car - despite her name, she's an expert on bikes). With an elegant and reliable set of wheels we're ready to explore the rest of the day's activities under our own power.

12pm: On weekends, the house and gardens built by the renowned author, historian and bon vivant Charles Lummis are open to visitors. Lummis wrote many books about the American Southwest, worked for the LA Times, and founded the Southwest Museum, the first museum in Los Angeles. The walls of his house are constructed of big river rocks. The doors are carved from thick slabs of oak. Inside the Lummis house are objects and pictures related to his life and work. Outside, huge sycamore trees shade the gardens and walkways.

1:30pm: The Good Girl Dinette advertises "American diner meets Vietnamese comfort food", and the tightly edited menu offers such delights as rice noodle salads (6), curry pot pies, banh mi with spicy fries, and "Grandma's pho". Chef and owner Diep Tran is an enthusiastic member of the community and sources some of her ingredients from local urban farmers - she's even hoping to work out an arrangement with the community garden just two blocks away.

3pm: After lunch we visit Galco's (1), a strangely world-famous "mom and pop pop shop." It turns out that there are hundreds of varieties of carbonated drinks that few have heard of or tasted. These drinks have been shouldered off the grocery shelves by bigger brands that literally pay for retail space. One of the few places to try these hundreds of different soda pops from around the globe is Galco's. There's also time to look at some funky old shirts at a thrift store called Urchin, play a couple of used guitars at Future Music, and peruse the vinyl at Wombleton Records.

6pm: As the sun sets, we stop on the sidewalk to pick up a couple of excellent made-to-order tacos at a place with no name (5). These two guys don't need a name, apparently, because they know how to cook. Everything costs one dollar. Their advertising is strictly olfactory. There is always a throng of hungry people there.

7pm: We join the fleet of bikers touring the neighborhood art galleries, which all have openings on the second Saturday of every month. Along with the Future Studio, Clare Graham’s MorYork Gallery (7) is a crowd favorite. This place is huge and filled with astonishingly labor-intensive sculptures. You have never seen more buttons, wooden yardsticks, scrabble tiles, neck vertebrae, or pop tops. The MorYork is very art-creepy and not to be missed.

10pm: For a final drink and bite to eat just cross the street to The York. This being a Saturday night, a DJ is crankin' some old-school hip hop. The bartenders make a decent margarita (2), and the gastropub fare includes steak & fries, truffle mac & cheese, and shrimp bruschetta (they also do a weekend brunch).

Sunday

8am: Antigua Bread will set you up with coffee, but if you want more, we recommend the Antigua breakfast. It's a simple winning combo of eggs, frijoles and platanos con crema.

10am: What better way to spend your Sunday than with a round of miniature golf at the Arroyo Seco municipal golf course? Four bucks gets you nine holes with your own colored ball and club. Most of the holes initially appear pretty easy, but -- as they say -- hilarity ensues. The blades of the windmill seem to have a knack for interception. There is a hole where gravity exerts its force diagonally. The dollhouse architecture verges on the Escher-esque.

12pm: The Arroyo Seco Grill at the course is a relaxed and sunny place for a meal. From the outdoor seating, we can observe the progress of the next group of miniature golfers while we dine on classic all-American fare. You can't go wrong with a burger, a tuna salad sandwich, or an omelet (breakfast, of course, is served all day).

Lighting:

1) SB-800 with a diffusion dome high camera left, after careful soda-bottle curation

2) SB-900 with a 1/4 CTO gel in a Lumiquest LTp softbox camera left and a little behind the subject. Camera on a tripod partly blocking the path to the restroom, necessitating many pauses.

3) SB-900 with a 1/4 CTO gel through a semi-collapsed umbrella high camera right, and an SB-800 with a diffusion dome far camera left, wedged between a tower of pizza boxes and the wall, lighting the pizza-maker in the background.

4) SB-900 with a 3/4 CTO gel in a Lumiquest LTp softbox camera right, and a slow shutter speed to capture ambient light & motion. Bouncer asked what I was doing, and told me "some of our customers probably don't want to have their picture taken." I did not inquire as to the reason why.

5) bare SB-800 camera left for a cooler accent against the warm lights of the taco stand camera right.

6) window light behind the subject, and a white reflector camera right to bounce fill into the small bowl of charred pork.

7) ambient light from many, many sources (quite a few of them visible in the image!)

See an expanded set of images created in pursuit of this assignment here. I shot at almost every location in my itinerary, met so many local businessfolk, and had a fantastic time. It got me to visit places I'd only passed by before, and set me up with contacts for possible future work. I'd call it a rousing success!

Update: One of the photos I shot at the Good Girl Dinette and gave to the owner has been used in an LA Times interview with her!

Shot with my AGFA CLICK and some AGFA OPTIMA 125

White basque and panties with ivory Christian Dior stockings.

Julia asked yesterday if i would like to shoot some pictures. Its always great when a pretty girl wants to shoot. I had one idea i wanted to do with her for the longest time but it would of been messy and i wasn't in the best mood for a messy photoshoot. She asked me about sunset pictures and that sounded like a good idea. when i told her i would need her to be at my house by 4 so we could make it to the beach in time she said there was no way she could make it. She didn't end up showing up til 7 long long after the sun had set. I really didn't want to do an indoor portrait on a black ground again. While they are pretty interesting i feel i have done way to many of those lately and i wanted to shoot on location. Since it was pitch black outside my options were kinda limited. She wanted to do a cowgirl type of shot but needed a location. I remembered seeing a white fence with long weeds on a drive home from work one day. It was a freezing cold night and pitch black. my strobes did a pretty decent job but i rather shoot at dusk. either way this girl is gorgeous and just great to be around we didn't stop laughing all night.

strobist: sb-800 on the right of the camera elevated and pointed at an angle down on the subject with a shoot though umbrella. sb-600 on the left of the camera with bounce back umbrella since CLS was having trouble picking the signal up. triggered with nikon CLS in TTL mode.

A bit late getting into the Single in July Challenge because the lens I bought for the challenge turned out to be faulty, So I have to change lens and start again. I decided to go with my SMC PENTAX-M 28mm f2.8 because it's rather new to me and I've only taken it out once. Went out for a walk in the city to capture some image to make up for the 2 days that I missed.

This was at f8 I think

Saturday 16th April 2022 saw Liverpool play Manchester City in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. With the West Coast Main Line affected by engineering works, it was bound to produce a good selection of coaches with around 250 turning up. I noted 22 different coach body manufacturers to give plenty of variety to the day.

originally I had 2 photos but I love how it looks so Erie so Thats why I'm posting it up and I want to know what you guys think this might be my new you know icon so yeah I thought it was really cool how she looks like she's in water bratzshows102

Doll packs always get me, especially when they feature doll families. When I was growing up, there weren’t many options for expensive, large gift packs available. Sometimes there were Barbie and sisters sets, and you could get the mini Disney dolls together for certain lines. But beyond that, kids from my generation were not nearly as lucky as the kids of today. I immediately noticed the gift pack trend when I got back into collecting in 2011. There were Disney packs, showcasing most of the main princesses, there were huge Barbie sets, and even Monster High! I could feel my inner child craving these sorts of gift packs, and as time went on I was able to feed that desire. Despite not having much experience or fondness for the O.M.G.s, this Amazing Surprise! pack did catch my eye immediately. It was sometime before the 2019 holiday season, when our local Wal-Mart was stocking up on Christmas toys. I was intrigued, and mistook the set as featuring 14 O.M.G. dolls. I literally had never heard of L.O.Ls before, despite the fact that they’d been out a while (it’s that darn surprise packaging). I secretly was curious, but I never thought I’d get the set. The O.M.G.s were ridiculously overpriced compared to what I usually pay for dolls ($26 being the “cheapest” option). I also couldn’t admire the dolls in stores due to their secretive (aka stupid) packaging. How could I warm up to something that I couldn’t actually look at in person?!!! The one time I had seen Crystal Star at Target, I was less than impressed by the Betty Boop/Diva Starz-esque doll.

But then the L.O.L. bug hit me after seeing the tiny dolls advertised on the Glamper. I then found two #Hairgoals dolls on sale at Walmart in the clearance section. Upon opening them, it was love. And after ten minutes, I assessed that they would be my next greatest addiction. So I spent the next few days stalking the dolls online and searching high and low in the clearance section at Walmart. That’s where I found one lone Amazing Surprise! pack marked down. It was still wildly expensive, and only $20 off from its original price. Yet I couldn’t help myself. This was my ideal kind of scenario...a large set with the L.O.L. dolls I was in love with, AND the chance to sample two O.M.G.s and boys. PLUS the dolls comprised TWO families!!! After finding photos of them online, I knew I had to get this set, and it weighed on my mind all day. Colleen was just as on board with this poor financial decision. So one Friday night in January of 2020, we ventured out to Walmart to procure the costly set. At first I thought someone bought it since it was not in the same place. My heart sank, until I found it in the next clearance aisle. So off we went to self checkout with the ridiculously massive box in tow. Needless to say, we were more than happy with this decision. Although the wasteful surprise style packaging bothers me more than words can express, my love of the dolls could not be dampened. It was a great decision for us--I got more L.O.L.s, three fabulous boys, and two O.M.G.s who were the bomb dot com. I couldn’t envision myself forking over the $26 plus for one O.M.G. regularly (I won’t even do that for limited edition Bratz usually), so I thought this was the best way I could have two until they turned up secondhand. I have ogled other O.M.G.s online, but honestly, Downtown B.B. and Uptown Girl are my faves made so far! Also, I even got to explore the worlds of the Lils and pets ...things I would never buy separately, but love to get in lots.

In a strange way, this set is nostalgic for both me and Colleen. While L.O.L. and O.M.G.s were not out when we were growing up, nor were massive packs like this, it is something we would have been bonkers for. I can see us begging Mom and Dad to get us one of these to split for Christmas. Colleen would have wanted the pink, girly, Uptown family without a doubt. Plus, she would have been happier with the two girl L.O.L. dolls and the sole boy (who also pees--a gimmick she would enjoy). I on the other hand would have insisted upon getting the edgier Downtown family, who also sports dark skin (I always gravitated towards ethnic/darker dolls ever since I was young). Not only that, but I would have been excited to get not one, but TWO boys!!! The inclusion of the pets would have been a win win for Colleen and I too. We used to play with 90s Littlest Pet Shop creatures when we were very young. The L.O.L. pets remind me fondly of them, but they can do things like pee and spit. Colleen and I always had a very bathroom oriented sense of humor. So the fact that these dolls and pets can sometimes pee would have tickled our fancy. After opening and admiring the dolls, I told Colleen that I could envision our younger selves playing with this pack in a boarding house/apartment style game. The moment the words left my mouth, Colleen chimed that she had been thinking the EXACT same thing. I can see it now--us putting the dolls in my tiny, homemade, wooden dollhouse. Our families would live opposite of one another. Her dolls would be prim and proper until they were hanging out with mine. That’s when the little kids would all be running around outside the complex peeing in the bushes and fighting. The pets would be having accidents inside, and we would be on the floor in fits of giggles. Knowing how much this set would have sparked our imaginations as kids makes me all that much more fond of it!

I shot in DX mode which crops away the extra pixels and takes me 1.5X closer while allowing for up to 7 FPS with the Nikon D810's Nikon MB-D12 Battery Grip using the 8 AA battery option! 8 Duracles took me through around 3,000 shots no problem--maybe more! I was shooting at the equivalent of 900mm with the 1.5x crop factor! Pretty close! Had I gone with the Nikon D4s, I would have gotten 12 fps, but no DX crop factor, as the sensor has only around 14mp, compared to the d810's 36 megapixels! Sure the larger pixel size on the Nikon D4s full frame sensor comes in handy indoors or at night, but in the brigth sun, there's more than enough light for the smaller pixels in crop mode! Sure we lose some pixels from the outer edges when shooting in DX crop mode, but most of those pixels would be cropped away in lightroom anyway. And the smaller files make the memory cards last longer, while also upping the FPS to 7 shots per second! Not quite 12 FPS< but still awesome and enough I felt!
