I guess some Korean women don't see a contradiction in 'Permanent' and 'Fashion', or maybe they would see it after the procedure is over, as a side effect.

On days when my optimism is running low, I break open my secret stash of optimism enhancing material, play a few rounds, sink into a smiling stupor, and emerge with a sunnier disposition.

My word for 2013 is optimism

European Parliament Brussels, , October 2018

I went out early this morning and saw these small mushrooms at the bottom of my steps. I quickly took a few photos on my way to a meeting and told myself that I would return after an hour and take a few more shots. By the time I returned home, no more than an hour later, the mushrooms had already almost collapsed upon one another. I know that mushrooms are delicate, but can see now just how much so. I'm so glad to have gotten the chance to take these photos.

During the dry months, this is where Ellie and I enter Irving Park every day on our walks. The park offers a number of recreational opportunities for the neighborhood, as in addition to the dog park there are basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground, picnic tables, open fields, and baseball diamonds. As in surrounding Irvington, many old trees provide shade and character throughout the park. Sometimes the baseball diamonds are not in the best of shape and there are no fences in the outfield, but the types of teams that play here aren't likely to be hitting any home runs.

So I had to smile when someone put up these little signs on a few of the trees at the edge of the park, indicating the distance to home plate. Nothing wrong with a little optimism.
