I saw this t-shirt outside of Bang-On on Robson Street today. These words from Jack Layton's last letter to the country have been spoken and written all week. The truest words I've seen in a very long time.

In spite of what they've been through, these dogs were calm and easy to handle. Some even looked like they were smiling!
I finally got out with the camera this morning, even though I'd convinced myself that hibernating throughout the winter was a very good idea. But the withdrawal symptoms were becoming more apparent and I was desperate to get shooing again. It wasn't a fantstic morning in terms of my photographic skills, but nevertheless, a wonderful morning to be out catching the first sun rays of the spring with an absolutely gorgeous light. The snowdrops, and early daffodils were appearing and the warmth of the sun made a welcome change hinting at many more dawn starts throughout the year.
Many thanks to Lee for last night suggesting a dawn raid on Winkworth, which still seemed a good idea at 5am this morning. Just the inspriation I needed.
This was shot with my 70-200 + 1.4 extender on. I had it on the camera as I'd just changed lenses after missing a beautiful rim lit deer under the misty trees. Bugger.
Back to basics, Shu Qi always carries a positive and open-minded attitude, this is, to her, the fundamentals in interpersonal communications. “There are many happy happenings in the world, even in the current economic downturn, as long as you can deal with a positive mindset, then will you think of a solution to make your life better!” Shu Qi suggests that to stay content, the first is allowing yourself to let go, then share with your friends. “When I am at my low point, I will share my troubles with my friends. Not only to one friend, but friends with different perspectives. I will keep talking until all my worries are gone! Ha!”

Things will get better.
I had to tell my group of 8 year olds today about the test I will be giving them next week, so I asked my friend to come into my class and translate to make sure they could prepare the right material. I had written a list of things they needed to know on the board, and there is one little boy in the class who thinks he is so funny. He had erased my list, which I found to be quite rude. So, I told him so, and to make sure he would understand, I had my friend translate what I said into Japanese. I told the class that it was rude and that I had taken my own time to make a study list for them so that they could do well on the test, and that I really didn't think it was funny. The resulting translation was, "kesanai de kudasai" ("Please don't erase the board"). Honestly, I could have produced this level of communication myself in Japanese. I get the feeling this happens a lot. The japanese translator always seems to implement some japanese politeness buffer. This is a bit frustrating to me. It must really drive the Germans nuts.

11th of February 2015 - Striped Dolphin Slaughter — at Taiji Japan
Another brutal day in Taiji claims the lives of several dozen striped dolphins.
It was a cold morning here in Taiji as the dolphin killers left port with dollar signs in their eyes and a lust for blood in their veins. The seas were calm and the skies clear, but as the hours passed with no signs of the black smoke and boat formations indicative of a drive, the Cove Guardians became hopeful that a third blue day lay before them. That optimism was short lived, however, as shortly after emerging from the horizon, the killing fleet discovered a large pod of striped dolphins, and began driving them aggressively towards The Cove.
As they approached the harbor, the banger boats split the pod three times in an attempt to control their movements. Half of the dolphins were able to escape back to sea, but unfortunately, a sizeable group was herded and ultimately driven into the killing zone. The killers moved hastily, with much shouting and commotion apparent to the Cove Guardians documenting the goulish process. Tarps were placed along the sides of The Cove to prevent any dolphins from throwing themselves against the rocks in desperation as they attempted to avoid their fate. In the end, The Cove ran red as the entire pod was brutally slaughtered for human consumption, a loss of approximately 35-40 innocent souls stacked unceremoniously within two skiffs. First match of the season when Aldershot played Darlington on 8th Aug 2009. All the optimism of a new season, the good weather, trees in full leaf.
Darlington would be relegated out of the Football League that season after 3 managers and a raft of loan and free signings. So much for optimism??
