We had a very pleasant yumcha at the old Oriental Tea House in South Yarra, back when it was tucked in a small shop in a lane perpendicular to Chapel Street, so when I heard that the Chadstone store was open, I decided to give it a try.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. Or perhaps, it was just passing off cheap Chinese dimsum to Aussies who didn't know better, Asian and Caucasian alike. The clientele on the opening weekend was quite evenly split between Asians and Caucasians, lured in by the breezy indoor-outdoor dining areas, bright reds and contrasting black decor, and a distinctly Asian but modern decor.

The selection of teas are quite impressive. Tea is served in glass teapots to be shared. You can also order tea individually in mugs made of a 紫砂 deep purple porcelain, the traditional material for 紫砂壶 Chinese teapots.

Food-wise, it's a disappointment. That's not to say it is not good, but the asking price of a 特点 "deluxe" dimsum being AUD8.90 you'd expect something special. Instead, what we get is a floury and chewy filling in the 带子烧买 scallop siumai dumpling. A distinct indicator of it being undercooked. Most other yumcha places serve "deluxe" dimsum at half that price.

Before we entered, Julia exclaimed that a 烧卖 siumai pork dumpling or 虾饺 hargao prawn dumpling, a "regular" dimsum, was AUD5.90. That was almost grounds for us turning tail and heading to a nice cafe. But it is better this way, rather than be tempted every time we walked past.

Being an equal oppurtunity employer meant that we had waiters and waitresses of all races, althought predominantly Asian. Being used to dimsum names in Cantonese, hearing the mangled English translations was a bit though. Guava-flower fried prawn wonton 石榴花云吞 is a mouthful in anyone's language. Just call a wonton a wonton.

Still, Oriental Tea House seems to draw crowds at both its South Yarra and city stores, which points to a shrewd business owner understanding that the ambience and price-point is "acceptable" for the locations it is in.

FIRST TIME TO THIS LIGHTHOUSE!!! It is like the pictures say very picturesque...So I was in Maine and Back Home in Southwestern Connecticut all in the same day...Went up for sunrise left at 1am and got back by 2:30pm for work...YES I'M NUTS...Photography makes you do INSANE things just to get the shot...My friend went up for the whole day and couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to see this lighthouse for once...The sunrise was one of the best I've seen and the Snow Squall that followed was a Plus...Taken Yesterday Morning around 7am

While turtle hunting she decided to walk a bit further in the woods. I tried telling her doesn't look good honey. She didn't take my advice and continued down in the brush. Well of course there was some loud rustling and she came running out there so fast, she ran right out of her flip flops. Later saying there was a foul odor. I remember stories from my dad of the Skunk Ape. My dad has always told stories about the Skunk Ape, Bigfoot since I was a girl. My dad never tells a lie. He's a true Florida born native he hunted barefoot with a slingshot, gun or older he jokes by cars. I am always on the look out for the elusive Bigfoot here in Florida or my summer trips to the mountains of Tennessee. So when chance gives me the oppurtunity to tell my family about the Skunk Ape I am carrying on the long standing tradition in my family of storytelling.

In Florida we have something called The Skunk Ape they are in the same family as Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Abominable Snowman, Boggy Creek Monster, Wild Man, Almas, Batutut, Fear liath, Hibagon, MonoGrande, Orang Mawas, Yeren, Yowie, Yeti and the Sassenach. The Skunk Ape is named for its appearance & strong stench. Some people have compared the foul stench to a skunk rolling around in a dumpster.

The sun has dipped below the horizon leaving an illumination in the sky. Not completely dark or lit the twilight hour is here. An unbearable heat with a slight breeze attracts the biggest mosquitoes. Birds softening their calls to a whisper fetching babies home for the night. Alligators entering the swampy creek water hoping for last minute parched animals at the edge. This is when the Skunk Ape wakes to hunt. A trail of Lima beans or string of apples can attract one, but it can be difficult. Reports have been documented since the 1970’s and film captures are extremely rare. One lady who wished to remain anonymous mailed the pictures into a local Post Office.

If you are luck enough to encounter the Florida Skunk Ape do not run. Stand still and note your surroundings, time of day, weather and please remember to take pictures.

Everynow and then I have a ride down Claro Road to Emsleys yard on the off chance that there may be somthing new in the yard or maybe a photo oppurtunity worth grabbing.

On January 6th I was well chuffed...... Clearly there was a big job on early Monday morning as Liebherr LTM 110-5.2 200 tonner KF02NUU was parked outside in the road along with her support truck...... the companies fantastic Scania R620 V8 "Topline" STGO Cat 3 & Brohus 5 Axle ( Self Steering ) Trailer waiting to depart Monday and perfect for a few fots there and then....... I happen to really like this particular crane...... you could say she was a favourite of mine.

Living in the now has great value, because if we focus too much on the past or future we miss the party, even though we’re physically there.

At the same time, exclusive focus on the present doesn’t completely serve us because we miss valuable lessons from the past that contribute to the quality of our present moment experience, and we also loose sight of how our present affects our future, our future “now.”

Giving us a broader perspective, one beyond this lifetime, yoga wisdom stretches our ability to see and experience by revealing the deeper connection between our past, present and future.

Enhancing rathing than taking away from our experience of the moment, such information of how and why we got our present body, our options in it, and how they lead to future bodies, particularly reveals its unparalled value when the accompanying lifestyle is practiced.

In this way, empowered with a truely broad vision, we can make the most of every oppurtunity, every moment, every now.

“In this world, there is nothing so sublime and pure as transcendental knowledge. Such knowledge is the mature fruit of all mysticism. And one who has become accomplished in the practice of Bhakti yoga enjoys this knowledge within himself in due course of time.”

Took this photo while leaving Seattle/Bellevue last week. It was a very long week last week which extended, unfortunately, into the weekend. It is worth it though, I do love what I do, so I try not to complain too much. Its tiring at times but I always try my best to keep myself going.

I've always like pictures with certain repeating patterns such as a hallway or other patterns. Hallways always remind of those scenes in scary movies where the lights start to off one by one until they shut off around the main character and something jumps out at them while the lights are all off. That didn't happen on the day I took this photo, but the thought crossed my mind.

This is also from one of my preferred hotels in Bellevue, Hotel Sierra, although not a national chain its a very nice little hotel. They have a bistro/bar area that serves a good breakfast and decent evening meals as well.

The photo has been heavily edited, Cross-Process Filter, Grit Filter, Temperature, and Exposure. I wasn't going for reality more of what my imagination saw. It was also about 4:30 am so it was pretty dark in the hallway so it was a good oppurtunity as well.

I will love you tomorrow

When this world breaks you down

I will give you strength to stand

Look to me, take my hand and just believe

Before this day ever began, I loved you then

I won't let you go, not even for a minute

So don't lose hope

Pain touches everyone

Heartache falls on every heart

-33 miles, I Loved You Then

This morning, Nathan left me a cd he made me on the front porch. I didn't get a chance to listen to it until this afternoon, but all of the songs are amazing. And I've only heard a couple before, so that's VERY good. Now to find my iPod cord....:P

I decided to take my picture this morning, because I had some extra time. The sunrise was super pretty, but I didn't get to it in time for the pink skies and stuff. But that's okay, this is still pretty cool.

Today was a normal day at school. :] Nothing real exciting.

Came home, did some homework while listening to my new cd. (<3) annnd..that's about it.

:] Life is swell.

I photographed bands such as Hadouken, Don Broco, Ellie Goulding and Professor green. Unfortunately i'm not allowed to upload any of my live photos yet so i have uploaded 4 portraits i have.

After his set i asked professor Green for a quick picture, he gave me this, very pleased with it.

hi gabi :-)

it seems like every winter i want it to be summer so I can go outside and take pictures, but every time summer comes around my camera just gets put away and forgotten. One of the reasons I started the 52 weeks thing was to at least take some pictures during the week and not forget photography from my life.

my gal pal is still in florida and I wont see her for another week. It's already been a week, just come home already. I have been keeping busy with reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and I just got Chariots of the Gods today by Erick Von Daniken. Reading makes me so happy and at ease when I get into a book, but I almost never read and have the oppurtunity for that to happen

this is week 27: it all seems so redundant.

For every moment in life there should be a camera. Throughout the days of the hot Texas sun to the calming nights of winter, a shot made could make the difference between average scenery and a work of art. A simple vision of what the lenses would capture could be the most satisfying emotion in this beautiful world, and for someone to say the picture is good can’t just be put into words. Photography is a part of me that grows every day and continuously changes my world, and the world’s perspective. The first time picking up a camera was simply an act of jealousy. My sister, with my mother’s old camera took less inspired photos of every day objects, yet were so beautiful. I wanted to find my niche in the world, I wanted to create beauty, I wanted to inspire and be inspired. With this realization, fireworks went off in my head! By picking up a camera, I could show my world, my thoughts, my voice, without uttering a single word. So without a moment to think, I picked up a camera and took a shot, one without angles, without focus, without inspiration, but it was a shot heard around my world, and I will never look back. The question was, what was I to do with this new found passion, my passion did what it was meant to do, which was help me grow as a person. Enthralled would be an understatement of how I took photography, the three hundred and sixty-five day project was the challenge. Every day I took a picture that describes my world in a single frame. Being me I decided to shake it up a little, one frame was not enough to show my world for there were many layers and many sights to see. Short films, or stop and shoot films, were the object of my affection. My skills grew, my perspective grew, and the contrast between the real world and my world exponentially grew at a pace within thirty days. Within those numbered days I had been complimented, questioned, and bribed to take pictures of people, so they could have a work of art for no money. To myself, I had the ideals of beauty. I would not stand for a picture of a person who did not look absolutely perfect in my eyes. Beauty is symmetry, to girls it’s being thin, to guys beauty was to look masculine. But symmetry of the face, of the shadows, of the light, and of the body was the factors that made up a truly beautiful shot. Within this standard holds truth about my personality, consistency in this world is so hard to find, that when I control anything, the consistency must be right.Every person could easily say they are an amateur photographer. I will never say this statement, for it is not true for me. I love photography, but never will I see this passion as work, for I enjoy it too much. Photography gave me courage to share my world. My perspective on this earth has turned from average to beauty, so that everything and everyone is beautiful in my eyes, truly. In world with no consistency, no control of fate, photography has become a medium of passion and truth for me, holding a camera gives me power to change my surroundings and make them worthwhile.Through the eyes a new world is created, one with illusions and contrast. A typical person would take a set on straight forward with a point and shoot or digital camera of a sunset. My weapon of choice, a canon Rebel T3, with its adjustable ISO and apertures, would create and represent the composition rules not only to set up an angle, but coloring, lighting, and focus. With a simple small adjustment on manual focus, you have a sunset with electrifying colors for every thing else is blurred and irrelevant. This simple adjustment constructs a whole new world for a viewer, one with a house from a worm’s eye view watching a sunset.

Botanical Name: Pinus wallichiana

Family: Pinaceae

Natural Distribution: Asia-temperate - "Himal: southern flank, from Afghanistan through Pakistan, India, Tibet (China: Xizang), Nepal and Bhutan to Burma. Found in valleys and foothills at elevations of 1800-3900 m, sometimes in pure stands but often in association with conifers including Cedrus deodara, Abies pindrow, Picea smithiana and Juniperus excelsa subsp. polycarpos, and with broadleaved species including Quercus semecarpifolia, Betula utilis, ard Acer and Ilex species. It may also be associated with the more narrowly distributed pines Pinus kesiya and P. roxburghii" (extract from conifers.org)...photo taken in the Kyneton Botanic Gardens (Victoria, Australia)) recently (no label, so that's my guess!)...boy, would I love to have the oppurtunity to plant up (in cultivation) a stylized (is that the word?) forest that included the trees mentioned from conifers.org...Cheers JB 🌲🌲🌲

The mussel release event was a cooperative effort between the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Nature Conservancy, public and private partners, and other non-profit organizations. It also served as an outreach oppurtunity where school children were able to come out and help with the event and learn about the importance of mussels. Credit: USFWS.

One of my absolute faorite plants is the Eucalyptus trees. I worked in 1987-88 as a seedcollector in Australia. Specielising in collecting Eucalyptus seeds. Under that time I had the oppurtunity to see many remote areas in Australia and many Euc species.

Was also the first to get Eucalyptus trees to flower outside in Sweden (Probably Scandinavia). Had many species growing outside.

So it´s nice to see some Euc here to. But rather see rainforest were there are now Euc forests.

Last December I got the special oppurtunity to take a missions trip to Nicaragua with two of my best friends Jessie and Kevin. We had a blast being there giving out presents and playing with the kids, This kid in the picture I thought was absolutely adorable. You can see so much emotion in her eyes it amazes me. I took over 2,000 photo's while I was there and officially edited over 300 and unfortunantly I can't post them all here but if you head on over to Jessie and I's blog you will find a post about our Trip with quite a few more photo's :) I might post one more on Flickr as well.

On selected Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway running days Queensland Omnibus and Coach offer the chance to ride in a heritage bus. The bus operates from either swanbank or the Racecourse station pending the operational pattern being operated.

On October 9th 2016 the bus selected for the day was a 1958 Leyland Tiger built for use in Adelaide South Australia. The Bus is the last example in a complete operational state. Fitted with three sets of doors the bus was designed to be worked by a conductor similiar to the local trams with entry via the rear doors.

The starting point for the ride was Swanbank Station, a small historic hand out was supplied by the driver before departure from Swanbank. A number of passengers from the train took the oppurtunity along with myself to take a ride. The buses destination today was nearby Box Flat, the location of a memorial dedicated to 17 men who lost their lives in a minning accident in July 1972. The driver gave a small talk on the memorial and the impacts that this accident had upon on the area and the state during the 1970's.

The memorial site features a large stone plinth that holds a large plaque with the names of those that lost their lives, a small information panel attached to a second stone plinth off to the side of the main plaque gives a small run down on the tragic event and lists the deceased and their occupation.

Back on the bus the driver temporarily paused the bus near the position of where the old mine was located. Pointing out the locations of where the powerstation and mine was located and the few remaining items of the complex.

On the return to Swanbank those that wish to make use of the picnic grounds the bus will stop and drop off. The Bus returns back to Swanbank in time to catch the train back to Racecourse platform.
