Other title: Roman Forum (Rome, Italy)
Current location: Rome, Roma, Lazio, Italy
Description of work: The Forum Romanum was the center of ancient Rome's political, legal, and commercial life, with layers of basilicas, temples, and markets built and rebuilt over the centuries. As the city grew it became insufficient, and Julius Caesar began what would become an Imperial tradition of building new fora for the city. After the fall of Rome it became buried, with excavations beginning in the Renaissance and continuing to this day.
