It has been raining for several weeks in Sydney. It seems to be open sky. It is still raining a lot so muddy water flows. I went there today morning.

Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns and only distantly related to auks, skimmers and even more distantly to waders. Wikipedia

Sunset across golden fields.

I created this panorama from two 9-exposure HDR files captured with the D200. The HDR processed shot was used selectively over the places in the picture that needed an expanded dynamic range.

This is one of my later shots with the old D200 camera. By this time, I was really wringing every last bit of quality I could from the older sensor.

To open the heart:::: There is no better option than using these items, no better time than the midnight, no better place than the home, no better friend than self......

Providence and Worcester Railroad road freight WONR is at MP 43 on the Norwich Branch mainline, the historic Norwich and Worcester Railroad which opened through here in 1840. They are heading back south 40 miles to their home terminal of Plainfield, CT after making a turn up to Worcester put have paused here to pull and spot Impact Plastics less than a half mile to the north and will pause again just ahead to work International Paper before continuing south.

Leading the way are four four motor GEs, two in Genesee and Wyoming orange and two in original PW red and brown. 3910 on the point is an ex LMX General Electric B39-8E, part of a group of 102 built in 1987-88 for GE's leasing arm and immediately put on long term lease to Burlington Northern. PW picked up six of them around 2001, but this particular one came to the road later as a replacement for 3908 that was damaged in 2019. 3910 looks fresh because it was only just renumbered and painted in June 2022. Prior to that it still wore LMX gray and its original number, 8534, as an RLCX and then NREX lease unit before spending some time in the Silvis deadline.

Continuing on with fall scenes from the mountain west region, we start with another road trip, this time over Cottonwood Pass, 12,126 ft. This pass will take you over the continental divide to the towns of Crested Butte and Salida.

I begin here with The Comanche Drive-In, built in 1966... a historic family-owned drive-in theater located in Buena Vista, Colorado, offering a stunning view of the surrounding peaks at an elevation of 8000 ft.

It was nice to see an open window, for once. This is part of an office/restaurant complex. Hoping for more open windows and doors to come. Soon.

Stay well everyone, have a great Wednesday!

Every country has a certain amount of natural beauty. New Zealand just happens to have loads of it.

Better still, it’s not just concentrated in a few remote corners. The great scenery of our wide open spaces surrounds and inspires us, even in our biggest cities.

Living in the city makes me forget how open Tx can be even around the suburban areas as it waits for more development.

Happy Easter to all - a time of year when we celebrate life, rejuvenation, fertility of nature and spirit, and promises of both plant and animal fecundity in the coming months. Of course, it feels a bit odd saying that as the snow continues to pile up outside, and the nighttime temperature is forecast to reach 15 ˚F. Methinks the fruit trees that leafed out over the past several days when temperatures approached 70 ˚F will be rewarded for their efforts with a pinching cold in bud and twig. It also feels odd thinking about life and rejuvenation in the midst of a pandemic. Odd though it may be, it is life and rejuvenation that will see us through, one way or the other...

In Silverton, near Broken Hill in New South Wales.

Silverton is a small village at the far west of New South Wales, Australia, 26 kilometres (16 mi) north-west of Broken Hill. At the 2016 census, Silverton had a population of 50. Silverton is now mostly populated by artists and is known for its quirky art and buildings.

Prospectors began working in the area in 1867 when a local station-hand claimed to have found gold there. It was later discovered that his plan was merely a pretext for stealing a horse.

Some years later in 1875, two men drilling a well on a station south of the town site hit a lode of silver. Silverton was recognised as a town on 17 September 1880 and Richard O'Connell was sent in charge of the police. Among his many other duties was Acting Clerk of Petty Sessions, Mining Registrar and Warden's Clerk.

In October 1886 the Silverton Municipal Council was formed and held its inaugural meeting in January 1887 in the Silverton Municipal Chambers, which still exist. The town's population quickly increased reaching a peak around 3,000 in the 1890s, and the Silverton Tramway was opened in 1888 connecting the town to South Australia.

Many of the houses built were of simple iron and canvas construction. The rapid depletion of the high-grade ore around Silverton, along with the discovery of an even richer silver-lead-zinc ore body in nearby Broken Hill led to a sudden decline in Silverton's population, with many of those leaving taking their homes with them.
