See that space on the left and how tall the crease is on the right? That's what happens when you ignore the this-side-up arrows on a crate and ship a lead sheet sculputure by Richard Serra 3000 miles across the country by truck on it's edge.

This is the second year I've searched my milkweed plants for tiny Monarch caterpillars and brought them inside to keep them safe from predators and competitors. For my first 2019 metamorphosis I did time-lapse photography in low light to capture the moment the chrysalid became exposed. Those photos were blurry because I used a slow shutter speed (1/10 sec) and, as I realized, these critters are in constant motion as they develop their chrysalids. So I decided to take faster shots, and I set up a spotlight so I could photograph at 1/320 sec. I suspect the spotlight was a bad decision! I spent a little time setting up, taking test shots, etc. (see prior image). I left the room briefly, and I came back to find a bad situation (see this image). I suspect the caterpillar was freaked out by my light and activity and rushed its metamorphosis. Of course I put the light away and haven't bothered my "visitors" since. (The first one emerged and flew yesterday morning. Currently I have 4 more chrysalids and 2 caterpillars.)
P.S. I watched the sad chrysalis for a day, then realized it was turning black, so I removed and disposed of it. Did not take any other precautions.

Today was good. I went to school to see what the students in the year above did for their "last project". Some were really impressive while some were ok. I have two favorites; a time lapse over Stockholm (omg that was amazing!) and an action movie. I have a dream that one day do a real action movie. That would me osm!
Anyhow, we ended early so I went home and shot this. It took a while to edit.
