On this sunny and warmer-than-normal Saturday in the Valley of the Sun, 20 Western International University (WIU) staff members wearing t-shirts emblazoned with "WIU Gives Back" literally gave their backs over to heavy-duty construction work on a Habitat For Humanity home project sponsored by sister school University of Phoenix. The WIU volunteers worked alongside future homeowner Michelle Solano, her grandmother Mary Solano, and Habitat volunteer construction professionals to continue interior framing and roofing work on the home that Solano will be able to purchase for herself and her three young children.

The BOLD (Blended and Online Learning Design) fellows lunch celebration on Wednesday, May 24th, 11:30-1:00, in Featheringhill 110, recognized those who have completed or begun a project during this academic year. The lunch will served as an opportunity to discuss recently completed and in-progress projects, but it was also a chance to celebrate the BOLD program, which is going on hiatus. Thirty Vanderbilt students have completed 20 projects, with seven more in progress, and the projects have impacted at least 2511 Vanderbilt students so far.

Can colleges and universities effectively pursue massive online learning while maintaining their core academic missions? Issues surrounding the quality of courses, their cost effectiveness, student learning outcomes, credentialing, and equal access to education have provoked a spirited and evolving international debate. Penn President Amy Gutmann moderated the 2013 David and Lyn Silfen University Forum, welcoming New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning Columnist Thomas Friedman, The Honorable Martha J. Kanter, under secretary, U.S. Department of Education, and Brit Kirwan, chancellor, University of Maryland System.

The demand for online learning has escalated rapidly right after the pandemic. Education has shifted to an online mode which has turned a bit monotonous for some. Teachers are finding it difficult to recreate that classroom environment and make lessons interesting for the learners.
