The Lake, Central Park, New York City, New York, USA.
I'm changing things up today. I got some new magazine proofs in the mail this week and I thought I'd roll out some NYC while it's still fresh in my mind.
I imagine Central Park is a little more fun in the summer or the spring - when it's not so crazy cold, you know? - but visiting in the winter does have advantages. First, there are fewer people running amok. Fewer panhandlers, too. That's always a good thing. Then there's skating under the night lights of the Manhattan skyline - we'll get to that later. For now, The Lake, the hotels, the ice. Good times.
I shot down to NYC on assignment for a magazine and was lucky to have Jahrensy and Damian along for the ride. NYC seems as familiar as any place I've ever been and bursting at the seems with good times. More to come.

Lombardi's Pizza, NoLita, New York City, New York, USA.
On assignment for Changi Class Magazine.
The best part about Lombardi's isn't the pizza - it's the old-school ovens and plethora of kitchens that seem to appear out of thin air around every corner.
I was lucky to have Jahrensy and Damian along for the ride on this NYC adventure. See what they have to say about it.

Djerba, an island off the southeastern coast of Tunisia, is home to one of North Africa's only thriving (albeit small) Jewish communities. Roughly 1200 Jews live there, running Jewish schools, synagogues, and Kosher restaurants. Here, bride-to-be Oshrit Uzan receives jewelry from friends and relatives the night before her wedding.

Guilty as charged!
Right in front of my nose, huge buildings, occupied by hundreds of families.
Downtown San Paulo, Brazil.
Few blocks from the City Hall, the Stock Exchange, the Central Bank among so many other fundamental, worthy and basic institutions.
In just one of the buildings, 475 families occupies 27 unfinished floors.
Kids play and run.
Clotheslines on the outside of the building, without any protection from falling down and in front of the entire city.
Windows, with breathtaking views, of one of the biggest and most populated cities on the Planet, made of compensated wood or sticks, even at the 27th floor.
People that use strength and organization to impose their reality, to a society that doesn’t care to listen.
Guilty as charged!

Classrooms are segregated by gender in Djerba, and until very recently girls weren't educated at all.

Pretzel Stand, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.
On assignment for Changi Class Magazine.
Street food is a whole lot more exciting in places like Korea and Cambodia, but few thinks beat a hot, salty pretzel on a cold winter day. Topped off with cheddar cheese and an apple Snapple and you've got yourself the making of a fine NY snack.

Alit Sabban (right) and Hanna Sabban plan on turning this rundown building into a new school for their students — the two currently run a primary school for girls in a series of disconnected, borrowed spaces (one is a residential garage) and badly need a new home.

Thanks to my friend Greg I was able to get hired on the spot to cover this event minutes before it was supposed to begin.

A 2,400 year old Alabastron (perfume bottle) from an ancient Greek shipwreck excavated in Turkey in 1999 and 2000. This was shot on assignment in the museum in Bodrum, housed inside a restored crusader castle as this delicate stone object was undergoing conservation. This image appeared in the March, 2002 issue of National Geographic Magazine. Shot on medium format film, I wouldn't hesitate to do it now on my Nikon D2X instead.
