Not getting out much with the camera due to the crap weather at the moment and a general lack of motivation, probably due to the D300 all boxed up ready to go away :-(( Sometimes you just have to go and do other stuff!

Old Tree, by Pamela Rosenkrantz, on the High Line, NYC

This amazing tree, was in one of the parks, we walked by...I couldn't resist snapping this awesome texture...I loooooooooooove texture and the bonus here was the new growth...

I love the symbol of new life from old!

This is a bit like me...the older I get...the more new life sprouts...I feel more alive today than ever before...I guess that comes from having given the last 37yrs to bringing up a family of four children lol...now they're all settled and happy...it's me time and I want to live my me time happily!

I hope you all get to live your 'me time' happily too!

With love

from a trip to the Walbran Valley in the summer of 2003

The Carmanah and Walbran valleys are the entry points for rain clouds making their way inland off the coast. Mother Nature waters the flowers and trees almost daily, and the trees grow high and wide in thanks.

The trails and experience in the Walbran seem to be of a richer variety than the Carmanah, which is mostly board-walked, and dotted with "feature zones". In contrast, the trails in the Walbran valley provide a constant "big tree" experience, are still lightly visited, with some trails carpeted in moss.

The Provincial Government does not yet have a 'management plan' for the Walbran, which is all the more reason to visit. It's simply there; trails are definitely in place and mostly flat.

This coming summer of 2011 will make it 20 years since the beginning of the direct action blockades in the defence of the walbran valley!!!!

Finally caught this little fela peaking out at me this afternoon...

The old dying tree looks like it is reaching out to the younger tree as if to pass on its knowlege before it finally dies...

Unfortunately the heather is past its best and the glorious swathes are now mostly browny orange.

Local people estimate this tree to be 400 - 600 years of age.... Cilento NP, Unesco World Heritage Site

She was a beauty--a gold 45 goddess for sure! A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess guards the beauty of dx4/dt=ic and embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. And now Athena descends once again, assuming the form of a Gold 45 Goddess, to inspire you along your epic journey of heroic endeavour.

Sindaco di Roma, on. Gianni Alemanno: fax 06-679 4759; 06-6710 3590

e-mail: ld.gabinetto@comune.roma.it ; g.alemanno@comune.roma.it

Fabio De Lillo: fax 06- 6710 9305

e-mail: f.delillo@comune.roma.it

Aggiornamento

This is the lakebed for Lake Isabella in the Southern Sierra's.

It should be under 70'+ of water.

I always have to gush when I see these trees. It is like seeing a living dinosaur. These monsters are hardy tough creatures, honed by intense selection pressure forces. Good genes and the effects of geography, soil, wind, storms weather etc...have hardened these trees into incredible specimens.

As a woodworker - using old and reclaimed wood, almost never new - Boards from old wood are STRAIGHT and CLEAR are LONG. Trees like this provided so much of the wood that society was built with (and so casually thrown away as junk). The earliest trees were probably much bigger than these. But look at how there is nearly 100 feet of straight trunk before it branches. WOW,

It's hard to capture the scale of these trees. One might look at this and see a bunch of trees, but these trees are incredibly straight and tall with very high canopies and they have 30-50 inch diameter at breast height trunks.

I routinely imagine what the primeval forests of North American must have looked like and I can't believe nobody looked at these colossi and thought that's more to them than just firewood and an impediment to progress. But then again, we (as a society) know more about ecology and its importance and still we bulldoze and develop every inch of land to have new houses and more parking.

We as a society should be striving toward to returning these great big forests. These trees are probably 200 or so years old and have seen a lot of time. I dont think most people have seen or would recognize and old growth tree if it but them. There are some big fat and wide, and reasonably tall trees around but the old growths stand out because they are thick and super tall and straight with very high canopies. Once you see these you realize that most trees we see are barley 100 years old...most much less.

Image taken just outside of the city of Cork, in Ireland. I was driving from Kerry towards Cork and saw this lonely tree emerging from the lifting fog. As the sun started to illuminate the scene I parked, grabbed my gear and went for a couple of shots. I couldn't let the moment go by without having taken some pictures of this. Regards, Tjerk
