Summer is coming slowly to its end, we still have great, warm and
sunny late summer days.
The harvest of fruits and wine is in full swing, a wonderful time of year.
Many birds start their migration, storks and swifts have left us,
but the swallows still remain, feeding the last of their youngsters.

It is always such a pleasure to be able to escape the city within a short time up to the wonderland of snowy mountains in the Black Forest.
At first I admire always the wonderful old Beech trees if I am on the Schauinsland mountain(elevation 1,284 m - resp. 4,213 ft).
They look so different every time - sometimes a heavy load of snow paints soft lines - another time the snow was melting a bit during the days (often 0 + 2 C around noon ). Than cold nights (-7 to -10 C) add a real icy look, like in this image.
We didn't have much snow there since the beginning of January lately but finally winter has arrived in the mountains. The season has changed.

Schachten are ancient areas of pasture in the Bavarian Forest in Germany, some of which are still used today.
Similar to the alms or alpine pastures of the Alps, Schachten are treeless forest meadows. These open areas, often covering several hectares, were used by the herdsmen as places to stay for the night and for halts on a journey. Individual trees were left in place on these meadows to provide shady resting places for the animals. These isolated trees grew, unsheltered and are often gnarled by wind and weather.
These forest clearings are especially interesting because they are the only open areas in these huge forests and often have good views.

Die Linde in Upstedt zählt zu den ältesten Bäumen in Deutschland, wurde urkundlich schon 1100 erwähnt. Die Sommerlinde ist hohl, der Stamm in mehrere Stücke geteilt und bietet bis zu 5 Personen bequem Platz. Ein Blitzeinschlag kappte in den 1890er Jahren die Krone, im Jahre 1932 entfachten spielende Kinder in der Linde ein Feuer. Dies führte zu einer Sanierung im Jahre 1958. Schließlich verlor der Baum im Jahre 1973 in einem Sturm alle starken Äste. Trotzdem ist die Linde in einem absolut gesunden Zustand, die Krone wird wiederkehrend gestutzt. Auch unter den Namen "Tausendjährige Linde", "Tillylinde" und "Dicke Linde" bekannt.

Just got in from a walk up near the monastery and whilst out we chanced upon this magnificent old tree amongst lots of vine groves. We passed lots of hunters with their dogs and guns as the hunting season has begun in earnest; it started again on 15 August
Mayfair is an affluent area in the West End of London towards the eastern edge of Hyde Park, in the City of Westminster, between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane. It is one of the most expensive districts in the world.
The area was originally part of the manor of Eia and remained largely rural until the early 18th century. It became well known for the annual "May Fair" that took place from 1686 to 1764 in what is now Shepherd Market.
A fabulously sunny day with a few clouds and blue skies down an old countryside lane in the summertime.
The Frandy Tree, What a difference a day makes, the weather is so erratic just now 4 inches of snow a few days ago, and now it looks like spring.
By the title I mean the composition. I like my bluebell shots to be all neat and tidy, lots of straight trees, no stray branches, but I think a garlic wood is a little more rustic and I love that gnarly old tree!
I sat there for ages waiting for the fog outside to come in. Read a book, knitted a jumper, even did a rare Instagram reel but to no avail.
Eventually I admitted defeat. Hopefully next year!
The Gmünder Au is a 184-hectare nature reserve in the municipalities of Pfatter and Wörth an der Donau in the district of Regensburg in Bavaria. The Gmünder Au is located north of the Danube near Gmünd.
The nature reserve includes an old water arch of the Danube called "Alte Donau" (Old Danube), which was created in 1851 when a river bend was pierced in the course of straightening the Danube. However, a connection with the Danube to the east causes annual flooding. The nature reserve is characterized by extensively used meadows, ponds with sedimentation zones and wooded areas of the softwood floodplain. It is also a resting, breeding and wintering area for rare bird species. In the west are the nature reserves Pfatterer Au (south of the Danube) and Stöcklwörth (north of the Danube), in the east already in the district Straubing-Bogen the nature reserve Donauauen bei Stadldorf.
Die Gmünder Au ist ein 184 Hektar großes Naturschutzgebiet in den Gemeinden Pfatter und Wörth an der Donau im Landkreis Regensburg in Bayern. Die Gmünder Au liegt nördlich der Donau beim Pfatterer Ortsteil Gmünd.
Das Naturschutzgebiet umfasst einen „Alte Donau“ genannten Altwasserbogen der Donau, der 1851 entstand, als im Zuge der Donaubegradigung eine Flussschleife durchstochen wurde. Eine Verbindung mit der Donau im Osten führt allerdings zu jährlichen Überschwemmungen. Die Alte Donau wird von der Wiesent durchflossen. Das Naturschutzgebiet charakterisieren extensiv genutzte Wiesen, Tümpel mit Verlandungszonen und Gehölzbeständen der Weichholzaue. Weiter ist es Rast-, Brut- und Überwinterungsgebiet seltener Vogelarten. Im Westen liegen die Naturschutzgebiete Pfatterer Au (südlich der Donau) und Stöcklwörth (nördlich der Donau), im Osten bereits im Landkreis Straubing-Bogen das Naturschutzgebiet Donauauen bei Stadldorf.

The trees are magical. Because of people’s ignorance of trees, many old trees in Taiwan are facing survival crisis ! Tourists trample on the land and harden the soil, Cement works, The roots of trees cannot grow and breathe. Surgery and medical treatment did not help the trees.
Associate Professor Liu from National Chung Hsing University advocates the use of high-pressure water guns, Improve the soil around the trees
Enhance ventilation and growth of tree roots, And enhance the self-repair ability of trees! Fruitful results!

Ginkgo biloba is a species of tree native to China. It is the last living species in the order Ginkgoales, which first appeared over 290 million years ago. Fossils very similar to the living species, belonging to the genus Ginkgo, extend back to the Middle Jurassic approximately 170 million years ago. The tree was cultivated early in human history and remains commonly planted.

The mountains are my home and my favorite place on earth but running a VERY close second are the Redwood forests in California. There is a spirit of nature there that just overtakes you with wonder.
Planning a trip now for mid May if all works out as we hope!

- 9 C /15.8 F, strong wind, but what a joy to be out in first snow
this weekend up in the Black Forest mountains.
Despite the cold, the top of the Schauinsland mountain was crowded with people enjoying walking, skiing, sledging or snowshoeing.
But unfortunately - like in the past- the November snow won't last for long...Mostly, the real winter will arrive in January...

Wintereinbruch im Schwarzwald :-)
- 9 C, ein eisiger Wind, jedoch Sonnenschein.
Trotz der Kälte erfreuten sich zahlreiche Wintersportler auf Freiburg's Hausberg an der weßen Pracht.
Leider jedoch wird - wie in den vergangenen Jahren- der Novermberschnee nicht lange bleiben.
