a super hot and humid day ended with a thunder and lightening storm which started at sunset and continued for over an hour... we last power for 6 hours... the temperatures dropped into 80s from 102 F after the storm... the old oak is on the right side and oak #2 is on the left side ... the lightening show was spectacular across the river/creek and I managed to take a few shots... this shot was taken at 8.45 p.m.

The only Class 37 to feature in Eastenders as far as I know, not that I am a fan! However I seem to remember shortly after this visit I saw it in the program when 'Billy' (some kid) escaped from home and randomly apperaed in Old Oak Common depot, quite bazaar!

a very old stunted moss covered sessile oak tree, (quercus petraea) this tree is very old but stunted with no upright trunk, but it's limbs reach up quite tall. due to it's location and hight, on jenny nobles walk, this is real adder habitat-caution when walking. part of the langholm's walks. whita hill, langholm, dumfries and galloway, scotland. view large
it has been snowing today...since early morning... and it has also been quite cold... there was a lineup of birds at all the 3 feeders...the redbelly was working very hard to hide the sunflower seeds under the bark and in crevices of the old oak...

It gets pretty dark out here in the country. One of the pros of living out in BFE ;-)
A static star shot with a dabbling of light painting.
Getting ready to hit the road to teach some workshops in the Southwest. Catch ya on the flip side! :-)
The following ten images were all taken on 12/9/64 and appear in my "British Railways 1964-5" book.
Apologies are needed as my camera was playing up! This , however was to be the only shot taken of a NB type 2 - D6354 in company with Pannier Tank No.8481 taken from a train near Old Oak, just outside Paddington.
33064 was standing at the down platform starting signal at Lingfield station on 4th April 1994 when 4-VEP 3513, which had rolled back from Dormans, struck the locomotive. The crew managed to jump clear but the cab was crushed and the locomotive was pushed back 400 yards. On 16th/07July 1994, it was moved to East Grinstead and put on a low loader to be moved to Stewarts Lane for component recovery. Condemned on 15th October 1994, and cut up on 1st July 1997 at Old Oak Common by staff from MRJ Phillips, Llanelli.

Looking for another view of my local castle. This time I thought to try a panoramic stitch with four exposures to show more of the landscape and context - on a clear Winter morning this meant shooting right into the sun. Just the two crenellated towers of the gatehouse remain of this long since ruined castle which can be seen on the horizon. Zeiss Distagon 35mm f2 lens used.

Big old oak on the edge of a floodplain off the Suwannee River. If you have never walked a floodplain this time of year in fall you really should! Absolutely beautiful.
there were 2 ospreys on old oak today ... it was too hot for them to even fish... they just sat there with their feathers fluffed up and their tongues hanging out... this young osprey has not lost it's feather markings yet and is belongs to this years brood... I will post pictures of the nest and the young ospreys in a few days...stay out of heat and have a feathery friday...
50.034 heads north towards Greenford, shortly after passing Old Oak West Junction at North Acton on 12 April 1984. The North London Line is overhead, whilst the Central Line is running alongside in the foreground. Presumably, the empty freightliner wagons had originated at Willesden. Was this a regular working for a 50?
50.034 was broken up nearby, by

it takes a lot of energy and hard work to raise the young...bluebirds feed and take care of their young a bit longer than some of the other cavity seeking birds...
