there has been an increase in the bird trafic specially on the majestic old oak... the redbelly and the downy had their nest holes in that tree...the squirrel is always going in and out of oak cavities...bluebirds, kingbirds, flycatchers love that tree...lately it has also become a hang out for the chickadees and finches...hawks and ospreys have always been there...now the bald eagle and the blue heron have also been visiting off and on... picture was taken yesterday under a cloudy sky... it's a zoomed in shot is not cropped...

The powercar, adjacent to First Class, is on the 'country end' of the rake, which is a quirk of its outbound working to Wales where it reverse at Bristol. After this photo was taken, it was booked around the Ealing-Greenford-OldOak line to turn it back to the correct way around, with First Class at the London end.
I took this on Thursday 05/02/09 during the week of very heavy snow in the UK. This is a very, very old oak tree in a field where I walk my dog by my home.

My "Celestial Slingshot" is one of those images that tests your patience and perseverance as a photographer. I had gone out on more than one occasion to attempt this image. Even had the name beforehand.
There are many factors that kept me from getting the image I was envisioning. From getting up at 2am to drive out in the Summer months, to fisherman photo bombing me with their way to early rising headlights. Last night I thought it would be another disaster, as an airplane flew over as I was setting up & left the biggest contrail I have ever seen... right in the middle of my comp. But I waited and it eventually floated out of my frame.
The build up was so long, that I am not even sure how I feel about this image... at any rate here is my Celestial Slingshot!

I have started to collect a number of original slides (with copyright) 'most' of which probably haven’t been seen before. Some come with image information and some don't. Please feel free to leave a comment if you know locations, dates, numbers etc, it would be much appreciated. I have uploaded these at a low resolution, please don't copy / download without my prior permission.
I only collect slides on the understanding that the full copyright transfers over to me. If you believe there to be a copyright issue please drop me an email.

Just to wind up this series of pics from St. Peter's, here are a pair of re-hashes of a couple that I took on my first visit, way back in July 2009. As my wife would put it, these were taken with a "real camera", an Eos 5DII, in fact. And a tripod, to boot! Halcyon days!
