The old mill at Balitore would have taken it's power from the River Griese when it was in operation.

These two were having fun by trying to douse each other with water by shaking the tree branches as they went under them. Hey, if you're already soaked, just go with it and have fun.

I live quite close to this old mill, I pass this place 10 times a day and had never gone in before, I ended up spending the whole afternoon in there! There were loads of old motors / Machines. It was origionally powered by water, as the old water wheel is still there but in pretty bad shape, It was converted to electricty as this motor was retrofitted into the building and powered the mill with a series of pullies. the remains of which are still quite intact.

This is the Oldmill Poorhouse, built 1904-1907 and used as a military hospital during the First World War.

Sometimes it just pays to be in the right place at the right time.

I ordered crab legs (all you can eat). My only complaint about the Old Mill... the butter is never hot enough for me.

The Harris Woollen Mill was built in 1867, and burned down in 1965. Only its walls are still standing at the popular Rockwood Conservation Area, east of Guelph.

The Conservation area also has towering limestone cliffs, caves and glacial potholes, including one of the world's largest. You can view them from hiking trails on both sides of the Eramosa River or in a rented canoe.

The conservation area has over 65,000 visitors a year from near and far and offers excellent recreational opportunities only a short distance from major metropolitan areas.

One of the most beautiful parks in the South Shore, Deep River encompasses more than 1,200 acres on both the south and north sides of U.S. Highway 30 about 4.5 miles east of Interstate 65.

Unique to the park is Wood's Grist Mill from the 1800's. Today corn meal is ground using the large mill stones from May through October (days and times vary).

Next door, the Deep River Visitor Center, housed in the remains of a 1904 church, offers a variety of specialty items and hand made crafts. Deep River's own pure maple syrup is available during Maple Syrup Time during the first of March each year.

It is also home to the Deep River Grinders who play old time baseball under 1858 rules and attire from May through October.

The park includes hiking trails, historical buildings, playground, cross country ski trails (no rentals), BBQ facilities plus hayrides in September and October.

This cut-stone dam once powered the Slater Mill in Jewett City, CT. A sluiceway to the right of the dam (not visible in the picture) flowed under the bridge to the mill across the street. Unfortunately, the dam is no longer active and the sluiceway has been backfilled. The mill's powerhouse, now empty, once supplied 300 kilowatts to the substation in the upper left corner of the photo.

An authentic reproduction of an old water-powered grist mill, this striking structure appears in the opening scene of the classic 1939 film Gone with the Wind and is believed to be the only building remaining from the film. Built in 1933; designed to look old so it would appear as if it was built the 1800s. The park is decorated with sculptures of toadstools, tree stumps, and a tree branch-entwined bridge that connects the mill to the rest of the park. Senor Dionico Rodriguez, a sculptor and artist of Mexico City, was responsible for all the details of each piece of concrete work made to represent wood, iron or stone, as well as the designing of the foot bridges and rustic seats. The Old Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Dam No. 1 at the old American Thread complex in Willimantic, CT. I'm not sure what the structure near the left hand end of the dam is. I wonder if it might be an early attempt at a fish passage? This is the farthest dam downstream, shortly before the Willimantic River joins the Shetucket near the city's Recreation Park.
