The upper dam at the old Slater Mill in Jewett City, Connecticut on the Pachaug River. Driving by the dam, I thought the metal objects on top of the spillway might be brackets for flashboards. On a closer look, they're made of aluminum and appear to be ice breakers. The top course or two of stone blocks have been removed to lower the water level. The stones were simply tossed into the river below.
These beavers have a large house on the Deschutes River at the Old Mill in Bend Oregon. I look for them often but rarely find them out and about. Last spring I found two of them quite active at dusk. They were not the least bit concerned with all of the joggers and bikers and even dog walkers going by on the foot path less than 20 feet from them.
This old mill has been known as the J G Huff Mill, Algood's Mill, Butner Mill, and Yadkin Valley Mill. It is on Butner Mill Rd in East Bend NC in Yadkin County. Photography by Keith Hall Photography Elkin NC.
This was one of the only shots using my strobes that I was happy with. Still getting used to them, plus it was about 25 degrees in this place. Definitely colder than the 35 degrees it was outside haha

The trash rack on the No. 2 powerhouse at the old American Thread complex. Obviously, the generators weren't operating when this picture was taken. Normally, only about the top 10 inches (25 cm) or so of the grate is visible above the water.

An authentic reproduction of an old water-powered grist mill, this striking structure appears in the opening scene of the classic 1939 film Gone with the Wind and is believed to be the only building remaining from the film. Built in 1933; designed to look old so it would appear as if it was built the 1800s. The park is decorated with sculptures of toadstools, tree stumps, and a tree branch-entwined bridge that connects the mill to the rest of the park. Senor Dionico Rodriguez, a sculptor and artist of Mexico City, was responsible for all the details of each piece of concrete work made to represent wood, iron or stone, as well as the designing of the foot bridges and rustic seats. The Old Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Trungle Mill is the whole area shown here. The Old Mill in the foreground was built in the 1880s and the house at the back is the Miller's Cottage.
It's clear from the work on this granite entrance to what was formerly the administrative block of Oldmill Poorhouse that the Parish Council in Aberdeen had no hesitation in giving the buildings (if not its pauper inmates) a grandeur using local stone sufficient to reflect positively on the civic pride of the city.
"A month later the place was a dimpled mound, covered with soft, green young stuff; and by the end of the Rains there was the roaring Jungle in full blast on the spot that had been under plough not six months before."
The Second Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling
