The sun just breaking through the dark stormy sky to light up Old Harry Rocks near Studland Beach Nature Reserve. Just down the coast is the seaside town of Swanage. The coastal walk along the cliff tops is amazing with great views of the fantastic scenery.
“There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why?
I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”
― George Bernard Shaw
This should not be so strange.
This image of Old Harry Rocks was taken this morning just after sunrise.
The Lee Big Stopper was used to get an exposure of 1 minute just after the sun had disappeared behind the band of cloud.
At the very bottom of Sweden, facing the Baltic Sea, lies Ystad.
Ystad is known for its well-preserved city center, with its medieval street network and old half-timbered houses.
In summer, Ystad has many tourists from all over the world who wander the alleys of the old town and marvel at the beautiful old houses.
A rusty old chain and a solid padlock, sadly without a key. But we can enjoy it here.

The old manse at Kilchrist, Isle of Skye. This was shot late morning with a very low sun, but still able to get a bit of light on the ruin.
Old Elbe Tunnel or St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel (German: Alter Elbtunnel colloquially or St. Pauli Elbtunnel officially), which opened in 1911, is a pedestrian and vehicle tunnel in Hamburg. The 426 m (1,398 ft) long tunnel was a technical sensation; 24 m (80 ft) beneath the surface, two 6 m (20 ft) diameter tubes connect central Hamburg with the docks and shipyards on the south side of the river Elbe. This was a big improvement for tens of thousands of workers in one of the busiest harbors in the world.
Six large lifts on either side of the tunnel carry pedestrians and vehicles to the bottom. The two tunnels are both still in operation, though due to their limited capacity by today's standards, other bridges and tunnels have been built and taken over most of the traffic.
In 2008 approximately 300,000 cars, 63,000 bicycles, and 700,000 pedestrians used the tunnel. The tunnel is opened 24 hours for pedestrians and bicycles; however, as of October 2023, the tunnel is closed to all motor vehicles
Old Harry Rocks are three chalk formations, including a stack and a stump, located at Handfast Point, on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, southern England. They mark the most easterly point of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are various stories about the naming of the rocks. One legend says that the Devil also known as "Old Harry" had a sleep on the rocks. Another local legend says that the rocks were named after Harry Paye, the infamous Poole pirate, whose ship hid behind the rocks awaiting passing merchantmen.Yet another tale has it that a ninth-century Viking raid was thwarted by a storm, and that one of the drowned, Earl Harold, was turned into a pillar of chalk
This shot was taken on my boat journey back from Swanage to Poole on Tuesday evening.
I got up this morning and found the garden bathed in sunlight! It all looks so lovely - full of colour! I have done almost no gardening so far this year, and it looks better for it - though I suspect I will pay for it later!
Old Ruskin Church was originally a Methodist church that served the community of Ruskin and is thought to have been built about 1895. While this church is all that remains of that once thriving community, the church itself is well cared for and preserved for future generations. Old Ruskin has a "sister" church nearby names Ezekiel New Congregational Methodist that was struck by lightning and has since fallen into disrepair. I'll post photos of it soon.
