This is a little outdoor show that I am doing in Victoria Park in Cobourg, I am getting the usual response, which doesn`t justify the effort. But I see it now as part of the job to get out there and make myself known. I have a few other shows lined up in the next couple of months. I will focus on the positive, the festivities around such events, and the oportunity to socialize.
I encourage everyone to check out the 3 groups that I have formed.

The art work is of a certain style, so it is a very select artist segment that is invited to exhibit. Also, I run these groups like a directory, with only one sample per artist, this way nobody gets lost in the crowd. And if anyone wants to see more, they just follow the link to the artist`s site.
I will dedicate this one to all the white collar hit-men out there. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/
O VANS customizado de Beto Janz (o rei do ambigrama).
Custom VANS shoe by designer Beto Janz, the King of Ambigrams!
26"Wx32"H This is brand new, the paint is just dried. I am so excited, it is another one of my optical illusions, which are very rare.
All my optical illusions are original, they are the product of automatic drawing, they just appear on the paper when I am doodling. I am not saying that they havn`t been discovered before, but the first time I have discovered them is when they came out of my pencil .
If I am accepted into the Toronto Art Expo, I plan on dedicating a wall to my optical illusions.
My daughter was visiting with a friend, I asked them if they wanted a sneak preview of this Friday`s Flick, I was so excited, my first feedback. They just stared, then the friend looked over at next Friday`s Flick (Butterfly Eyes) that was still being worked on, and commented that she liked that one. I said, but what about Fireworks, see how it moves around. They smiled politely and left the room. It is funny the different perspectives between the artist and the viewer.

This is of a worker at the deli, who I would always chat with about worldly issues. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/
38"H x 27" W , A husband and wife paddling in a canoe that is joined, but separate. They are surounded by gloom, pointy mountains, grey sky, and wierd spikey waves knocking them about. But at the same time they are followed by two bubbles of clear sky, I guess this could be their dreams?
28"Wx26"H This is the second of a 7 painting series where I was using recent sketches.

Mexican magazine La Tempestad, on its 62 edition, publishes the typo slip (or erratum slip) about the use of a photograph of my property in a contest announcement.
Due to the excellent treatment of the editor, José Antonio Chaurand, both parties were satisfied in a non profit payment.
The complete story here.
My mind is muddy but my heart is heavy. Does it show?
I lose the track that loses me, so here I go.

Nothing beats a care package from home when you're abroad. Especially when it contains mac and cheese and sweet new shoes to replace your beaten, battered and now wax stained old ones. :P
Blog | Instagram | Facebook | This shot represents a bit of an awakening for me. I'd been wandering around Jeonju trying to capture the kind of Korea I thought people wanted to see, and was in a real rut with my photography because I wasn't shooting in a way that was true to myself and my own interests. After giving up on another plain old palace, I came across a vibrant skate scene in an expanse of concrete outside a mall. It took me back to days of ripped jeans and bloody knees learning the ropes as a young and hopeless skater. Perhaps the fact that those legs could so easily have been my own in bygone years gave me a narcissistic pleasure in capturing the shot. Even more pleasing was that the shot was picked up by PIK Magazine, who asked my to write up the story behind the shot (you can see the article here).
I noticed how a caregiver is stressed out to the point where their life is shortened, as a result the caregiver often dies before the person they are caring for. I have symbolized that when a person is near death , their neck is extended, thus making themselves venerable to the blade of the reaper. The person being cared for has a fully retracted neck , the caregivers neck is fully extended. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/
30"Hx26"W The rabbit represents the inner feelings of the old man? I am just guessing, I just paint the stuff, I really don`t have a clue what it`s about, or why I even do it.
No, Cowboy was not actually tossed from Santa's sleigh. Even though he often acts as if he's landed on his head, he really hasn't!
Twas the Night before Christmas also known as A Visit from St. Nicholas
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! Now Dancer!
Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!
On, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys and St Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
Clement Clarke Moore (1779 - 1863) wrote this poem in 1822.
No animals were harmed in the making of this picture (even though I felt like it!) ;-)

26"Wx30"H This is a re-paint of one of my early paintings. You notice the hand has 4 fingers, all of my newer paintings have 3 fingers. The person is trying to ride a bicycle that is missing pieces, falling appart and being torn appart. And he is missing his head, my life at the time was in the same shape. I sketched this when I was out of a job and totally broke with a wife and child to support. I went down to the local farmers market on saturday and set up a display of my paintings, at the time I was also trying to make money painting portraits of pets. It was an odd display, perfectly painted pet portrait samples intermingled with poorly painted abstracts. The problem I had with abstracts was, if I wasn`t copying from real life, I didn`t know what colours to use. I could sit and copy something from real life, it would look just like a photograph, but had no idea how to represent something that existed just as a feeling. I am still struggling with shapes and colours of feelings, but back then all I knew was that I wanted to represent feelings, but didn`t have a clue how to do it. The people were there to buy vegatables, not look at art work, I just sat there and sketched, and this came out. It was magic.
I have an exibit at the "Art Cafe" on flickr at www.flickr.com/groups/globalworldawards/discuss/721576230...
I have judged these images as the top 20 of my paintings.
Everyone has these...or at least the majority of people I see have these.
Can't blame them though, these look really, really clean.
These will also be my first Vans Era ever purchased. lol.
Not sure how much they retailed for, but I got them for a really cheap price.
These were the last pairs/size in stock at the store where I bought them!
Lucky lucky me! :-)

Barcelona is home to some of the most stunning architectural landmarks in Europe, thanks to the likes of Antoni Gaudí, Joan Miró and Luis Domenech i Muntaner. However, there’s beauty to be found all across Barcelona if you know where to look. From iconic boulevards to little-known alleyways, read on to discover our selection of the most beautiful streets in the Catalan capital.
Located just to the side of Barcelona’s famous Gothic Cathedral, the Carrer del Bisbe – or ‘Street of the Bishop’– is home to a neo-Gothic bridge which stretches above the street to link on one side the ‘Casa dels Canonges‘ (Canon’s House) and the ‘Palau de la Generalitat’ (home to the local council). One of the many curiosities of the Gothic Quarter, the Bishop’s Bridge bears a skull and bones with a dagger through the mouth: legend has it that anyone who stares directly at the skull will be cursed. Fortunately, for most people a stroll up the Carrer del Bisbe is a chance to escape the busy crowds on the nearby squares and admire the combination of Gothic and neo-Gothic designs on either side.

I was doing washes, all of my paintings are made up of watercolour style washes, even though I paint with acrylics, and the face appeared in the upper right corner. I just love it when a painting paints it`s self. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/

Believe it or not, this was shot in a local consignment shop!
Quite a contrast from yesterday's post which was from a high-end designer store!
This afternoon I returned to the shop above,
hoping they hadn't changed their display!
Check out this hilarious quotation!
