Volkswagen Beetle - 1969 off the wall

Reflections of a time gone by.

The last thing a woman wants to do is take her clothes off for a man, especially a total stranger and the last thing a man wants to do is pay that kind of money for a beer, but to watch the show he does and to make her money she does, it is unnatural nature. This was one of my versions of Santa.

Gabriel Medina is flying high in Hawaii last November. The break is call "Off the Wall", right next to the more famous "Pipeline" break on the North Shore of Oahu. This air was one of the biggest I saw.

11"Wx10"H This is an old image, it was painted in 1995. It is small and there is no background, it is one of my primitive paintings.

The summer is here , it is short, and there are other things I would rather do than paint, so through the summer the Friday Flick will be infiltrated by older forgotten primitive images.

I am pretending I have a deadline to an imaginary job of providing an image to the "Friday Flick" which is viewed by an imaginary audience on the internet. This gives me an incentive to produce a new painting every week. And now I am cheating by putting older substandard images in their place.

Painting is something that I do in the bad weather, there are fewer distractions, but now I am in the middle of a beautiful summer, and although there will be a few new images, my imaginary audience can wait till summer is over for me to get serious about painting again.

I encourage everyone to check out the 3 groups that I have formed.

The art work is of a certain style, so it is a very select artist segment that is invited to exhibit. Also, I run these groups like a directory, with only one sample per artist, this way nobody gets lost in the crowd. And if anyone wants to see more, they just follow the link to the artist`s site.

This is one of my few abstracts. I have hundreds of abstract sketches, that I am tempted to paint, but the representational paintings , the ones with a message, have taken priority. I think, just for the fun of it, I will paint a bunch of abstracts. You will notice that this one and others seem a little dark, they are lousey photos, and I am too lazy to redo them.

Partially inspired by the films of the masterful animation filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki - I'm not actually referring to a particular film but rather its unique style and atmospheres - my latest creation features two weird guys living 30 feet in the air in minimal but cozy stilt houses.

The starting point for this work was the tent on the right stilt house, a very strange and forgotten element from a mid-2000s Indiana Jones set.

At first I was thinking of a single pile dwelling then I added the second on the left joined by a crumbling bridge. And gradually I inserted various details and elements, some of which are really bizarre.

The off-road vehicle is ready to deal with mud and rough terrain and complete with all the necessary tools to fix it yourself in case. It is based on my previous Chevrolet Blazer spotted in the Sheriff Hopper's Cabin diorama built in 2019.

There are many other details and strange pieces, have fun finding them and if you have any questions write them below in the comments!

This one is of the father daughter bond, only the daughter is quite a bit more mature than her father.

Public restrooms give me the McHeebies. I have mini panic attacks when I have to use one. So why not snap a shot, to take the edge off. And then run the hell outta there!

Also, for the record, I do not wear spandex clothing. :P

in hawaii at the moment, surfing, filming, shooting, bodysurfing, crusin' etc. more pictures soon, i hope all is well

26"H x 30"W , This is just a laid back canoeing theme, with the reflections of trees in the water.

Unidentified spider I don’t think it’s a Fishing Spider like my spider on the other side of the house. I call him George. Happy Arachtober

I'd forgotten about these photos until P mentioned it the other day...this happened on London's South Bank back in July...

I havn`t figured this one out yet, but I really like it. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/

27" H x 38" W , This one was visited by kitty, while the background wash was still wet. There are a few cat prints, but the painting it self was so off the wall, I figured the paw prints added to it.

Looking at the painting in real life, the dripping snow cap starts moving ,the bottom wavy edge starts ripling, if I could figure out what makes it move, I can duplicate this phenomina in other paintings.

I painted this after seeing bugs living on a flower as a comunity. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/

I have no idea what this is about. My knickname at work is lightning, mainly because I am so slow, all my tools have a lightning bolt on them as a signature.

A reassuring message of hope

Surfer Cam Richards misjudged the take-off on this one. He illustrates the name of this surf break 'Off the wall' quite well.

All my paintings are Acrylic on Canvas done in a watercolour style of washes. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/
