These last 5 paintings were paintings I had done quite a while ago and wasn`t really excited about, thats why they were not added sooner. I am surprised by the positive response. Its good because there are plenty of paintings that I have done and stored away thinking no one would be interested in seeing them. Not to mention , the , over a thousand sketches or doodles, that I have stored away because I didn`t know if they were worth painting. What I am trying to say here is the feedback I am getting on Flickr is giving me a new perspective on my art career .
34"Wx26"H This is one of my alternative paintings, I do all kinds of abstract sketches but don`t follow them through as paintings because of their lack of subject. I seem to be fixated on needing the painting to say something. It is more challanging to produce paintings that speak, that convey a message. Abstracts are more fun though. I will be at the Cobourg art festival on the July 1st weekend.
I encourage everyone to check out the 3 groups that I have formed.

The art work is of a certain style, so it is a very select artist segment that is invited to exhibit. Also, I run these groups like a directory, with only one sample per artist, this way nobody gets lost in the crowd. And if anyone wants to see more, they just follow the link to the artist`s site.
26"Wx30"H This is the first painting of what will be my winter season of painting. The winter is pretty well the only time I paint because there is nothing else to do. That means no distractions. What is making it dificult this year is that there is an El Nino, and the temperature is above normal, there should normally be a foot of snow on the ground now, instead my daughter borrowed the canoe today to go out in the wilderness for a day of canoeing with a friend. As Canadians, we schedual our outdoor activities around the good weather, there seems to be so little of it. And the art work is produced in times of bad weather. The problem is we have been getting an awfull lot of good weather lately. So the art work has been put on hold.
I have an exibit at the "Art Cafe" on flickr at www.flickr.com/groups/globalworldawards/discuss/721576230...
I have judged these images as the top 20 of my paintings.
There comes a time when every life goes off course. In this desperate moment you must choose your direction: Will you fight to stay on the path while others tell you who you are? Or will you label yourself? Will you be honored by your choice or will you embrace your new path?
Each morning you choose to move forward or to simply give up.
24"Hx48"W , All these paintings are for sale if anyone has any money these days to throw away on a painting. The url for my site is www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2 . There are some sizes and prices, but it is a little out of date.
My crazy dad shot 2… ~ 1987
This shot took some time to setup but the kids were all for it.
Though a few eggs were lost in the process...
Shot prior to the light bulb kids...
Used my old Nikon FE2 and some Kodak high speed infrared film.
Was a long day in the darkroom.
Hope this makes you smile as well.
Have Fun, Steve
Staying home… I’m scanning a few old shots on a Plustex 7200 I’ve had for years with little use.
These 4 paintings, Sunrise 1-4, are featured a couple of pages back, all together, I felt featuring them one at a time would show more of the detail.
making Route 9 more interesting :)

55"Wx44"H I am a non consumer. I have no interest in money or spending it. So it is easy to poke fun at the rest of the world. More of my work can be seen at www3.sympatico.ca/jim.rowe2/
another repaint, 26"Wx32"H This of course is an anti war theme. Focusing on the civilian casualty aspect . In the past war has had a practical purpose. It contributed to our evolution by creating a stronger species. But the level of suffering amongst civilians is just unacceptable.Especially with the density of today's populations. In a war, all we hear about is the death toll amongst soldiers, the civilian death toll is often many times that. Of course this is of no concern to those not affected. Especially when the purpose of most wars today is for the profit of big business, this situation is totally unacceptable. It is like the world is one big insane asylum and the craziest ones(big business) are in control. And we are allowing it. We support them by supplying the money(fuel) that is necessary to keep them in power.
All we have to do to put an end to their "game" is 1- Get rid of all your debt, be debt free, that will starve the banks, and they are the worst offenders. They are the ones that started all the wars in the last 100 years. 2- Stop using anything to do with the oil industry, the electric car revolution is just around the corner despite what the oil industry has done to buy it off. It will be the countries where big oil has no control that develope this new technology, and when they do, we have to support it.
Now they are saying that they want to negociate with the Taliban in Afaganistan.
Back when the Russians were trying to do what the US is trying to do now. The US was the Taliban, the US fought Russia in Afganistan, they bankrupted the Russian economy because the Russian economy was non conforming to the modern standards of our capitalistic society. So big business controlled the United States government to create the Taliban to destroy the economic structure of Russia.
Then the US and it`s allies go in to Afganistan chasing a phantom enemy (that they had created), and they all go bankrupt. They have fabricated a war, and fabricated an enemy, for profit. The banks are profiting from this, from the interest from borrowing for the war effort to the interest from the bailout of, the banks? There is a small segment of our population that is playing a cruel game with the rest of us, and we are all playing along, if we speak out against this game, we are terrorists. Don`t suport the game, become debt free. Pay off your debt and do not borrow any more. The interest payments from all your stupid little loans is the main diet of these monsters.
They say, look at the good we are doing in Afganistan, well, look at the good the Russians were doing, and they were doing alot of good. But doing good wasn`t and insn`t the issue here, the issue is profiting on war and how can the big money boys maximize on their profit. And we are supporting this bullshit.
The model I used for my painting was General Norman Schwartzkpf who with his troops, gloriously slaughtered 100,000 Iraqi boys and young men in the Desert Storm war. These young men had their whole lives ahead of them, but they were forced into a war, they had no choice, and they were efficiently exterminated.
The number one rule to cheating is, keep it simple.
Here I was, about to lose. My opponents Rook about to take my king. I stood up, pointed behind him and yelled, LOOK, NAKED PEOPLE! He looked, I took the Rook and hid it in the garage. He'll never know.
Not sure why, but this works on everyone from prudes to perverts, EVERYONE looks.

I like to get an updated picture of my van every now and again when i've done some noticble improvements or mods, this is one of those times. New wing decal and roof rack decorations.
The night was a failure for a while, we went to at least 4 different locations that we're all unsuitable.
Finally we found a good spot, a little further from home than I'd usually go but I really wanted to get this picture. We set up and started shooting, stepping in puddles trying to get my lighting right, and after a short visit from the police we're plodded on and finished.
By the time we got back home blue hour was upon us and had no time for other light painting so went to bed.
Enjoy
