Business 40 Improvement Project Liaison Beats the Streets of Downtown Winston-Salem
Liaison Helping Businesses Connect With Resources to Offset Potential Impact
WINSTON-SALEM —As the Business 40 Improvement Project shifts into the design build stage and before construction begins in 2016, the projects’ newest addition is reaching out to the hundreds of businesses that call the 1.2 mile stretch of highway their home.
“My goal is to shake hands, share a smile, let people know that I’m here, that I care and that most importantly I can help them find the resources they need that will help their business absorb and potential impact this project may have on their bottom line,” said Cassandra Herndon, the Business 40 Liaison.
When construction on the Business 40 Improvement Project starts, the N.C. Department of Transportation will completely close 1.2 miles of U.S. 421/Business 40 for up to two years. During that time there will be construction and detours and hundreds of business are right in the thick of the renovation. Herndon is reaching out to every business possible before the groundwork begins to help them prepare for the potential impact.
“You’ll see me everywhere! Friday I went inside 525@vine building and spent time with the folks from Flywheel,” Herndon said.
Flywheel, a co-working innovation space is inside Innovation Quarters. The 234,000-square foot mixed-use laboratory and office building houses Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Division of Public Health Sciences and Department of Physician Assistant Studies, and the Innovation Quarter YMCA of Northwest North Carolina.
“There are dozens of people whose business and livelihood depend on the success of the Business 40 Improvement project and they don’t know that there are avenues they can use to help them weather the 24 months of construction closures. They need to know that help is just an email and phone call away,” Herndon said.
Some of those business owners were outside 525@vine during the Winston<40 Food Truck Friday. One of the many vendors speaking with Herndon that day was Jake Carter, with The Edge Flats, “I haven’t heard much.. Obviously that chunk is going to be shut down, definitely needs to be repaired.”
Herndon’s reply, “That’s what I’m here for.”
“Some of the questions being asked by business owners are simple and the answers can be found on the project website www.business40nc.com, and some cannot. I have, or will attain the answers for them, all they need do is pick up the phone.”

A birthday cake covered with an offset chevron design as made famous by Jessicakes.
The inside of the cake is a coconut sponge cake filled with coconut, passionfruit and mango swiss meringue buttercream.
The very basic chassis for the Kiso Forest Railway logging caboose. Jumper plates are used on top to give the offset for the cabin which keeps the whole model nice and short.

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks
The Hong Kong Truck Culture
The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.
*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album
In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below
☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.
☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.
☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.
The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.
The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-
Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion
Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.
Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.

These were accordion folded. Personal info whited out for obvious reasons. Designed by me, offset printed by Yes Graphics in Woodburn, Oregon. They're printed on a slightly textured paper and I love them.
Just a note: this design is my copyrighted work. Please to not be ripping me off, thanks!

One of the smaller architectural gems in Granada is the Corral del Carbón. Dating to the 14th century, this is one of the older Moorish building left in Granada. This is an example of some of the molded and carved plaster wall decorations in the elaborate entryway.

This is my 3rd Offset Wraplan. But this one is a keeper for our baby 'R'. I've yet to knit the button plackets but I'm loving the colour combo and the feel of the yarn.
I had left this one as a WIP probably over a year ago. I hadn't even created a Project on Ravelry for it. When I dug this out of my WIP pile, there was only the one sleeve and button placket to finish it. I even already have little buttons ready to go for it.
