New kindergarten students and parents, brought a lunch and a blanket to have a picnic on the Village Green while jamming to children's musician Laura Doherty. In addition to the live music, we had stories, art activities, and a meet and greet for students entering kindergarten to meet some Skokie kindergarten teachers and get to know their classmates.
Quite unexpectedly while riding a mountainbike through the woods around my hometown I happened to hear noise and shouts. It turned out to be an off-road championship, with lots of spectators. It was crazy, but it was fun.

My wife likes to take beach vacations because she can unwind sit by the shore and read. We took a day to just relax, so we took a day off from just doing anything, we hung around the cottage all day.

The cool and comfortable temperatures inside Lenox Square Mall proved to be very advantageous for competitive eater “Humble” Bob Shoudt on Sunday as he put away 41 Krystals and 5 Big Angus Burgers for a total of 66 Krystal Burger Points to take first place.
Shoudt is the first headline eater in the Krystal Square Off VI qualifying tour thus far to start with the Famous Krystal Burger and end with the Big Angus Burger. A risky strategy, but one that clearly paid off as he came in at only one point less than 2nd-ranked eater in the world Patrick Bertoletti’s 67 Krystal Burger count done at the Chattanooga Qualifier. It’s no doubt that Shoudt is in it to win this year’s Krystal Square Off VI World Hamburger Eating Championship.
The win in Atlanta guarantees Shoudt a seat at the final table in downtown Chattanooga on Sept. 27 next to fellow competitive eaters Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi and the KSO VI Qualifying winners to date: Patrick Bertoletti, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, Hall “Hoover” Hunt and Eric “Badlands” Booker.
They cut off the legs and lined them up. They said, they would take the spaceship to the Maintenance Yard for safekeeping, until a place could be found for it to be resurrected. But I - the worrywart that I am - asked if I could take a photo of the sawed off legs so that there would be some sort of record that the spaceship belonged with these legs. It was a sad day.
"They have hired men with the scythe so sharp,
To cut him off at the knee,
They rolled him and they tied him around the waist,
And served him barbarously.
Then they hired men with pitchforks,
To pitch him onto the load,
And the worst of all they served Barleycorn -
they bound him down with cord!"
John Barleycorn, old Irish folk song (but I am partial to Traffic's version)
