Active Assignemnt Monthly for January 2010: Odd Man Out
This is my FIRST monthly submission, so I apologize if I do anything wrong.
My son is eating a lot of organic foods so we have these cool brown eggs in the house and I thought it would fit the assignment perfectly.
WIT: I used incoming daylight and tried different apertures to get the DOF I wanted. I liked this one best. I upped contrast an added a vignette in Lightroom 2
We shot a few odd angles so that we see the construction. You could build your own full-sized version using these pics. Measurements provided at the end of this album.
Does anyone know what these are?
They were growing on the "Don't Touch Me" tree.
Whatever they are, this tree was full of them!

Well for non-railfans and non-US railfans it may be difficult to find the odd one out, but the third locomotive in the above consist is a northern Sunfolk (NS) loco. It is pretty uncommon in this part of the country and is sure quite a ways away from home.
Taken on the upper bridge at the Cienega creek, it was quite an adventure to get up there on the upper line. This bridge and line can be seen in this picture from the lower level.
We climbed up to the upper level tracks as shown on the picture below to take this picture.
Buffalo Nut, Oil Nut - Pyrularia pubera (female plant)
An odd, dioecious, hemiparasitic shrub. This appears to be a female plant--according to Radford:
"Staminate flowers have a nonfunctional pistil, and the pistillate, nonfunctional stames. Pistallate flowers on short spikes 1-3 cm long, the staminate spikes to 7 cm long."
Not sure if these are male or female flowers.
Stamens do not look like they have any pollen, so maybe these are female flowers. Totally not sure!
