The roof of the Oculus in NYC. Captured on Lomochrome Turquoise with my Mamiya 7.

I finally went back to NYC with a few of my photo friends for a weekend of extreme shooting. We came across the Oculus. Its the most impressive structure I even seen. It was amazing to take pictures of it. THe lines are amazing The cloudy, rainy day added to the effect. They are color shots...

The Pantheon dates to 118 and 125 and was constructed under the Emperor Hadrian (an earlier pantheon was constructed under Marcus Agrippa in 27 BC but it was destroyed by fire in 80.

The Pantheon is the best preserved of Roman architecture and is an engineering marvel. The concrete dome sits on a series of barrel vaults which can be seen on the outside drum of the building. The height and diameter of the interior is the same at 145 Roman feet, so bascially a sphere of 145 Roman feet can fit inside the building. Most of the exterior stucco and interior marble were stripped over the years.

In the 600s it was given to the pope and has been used as the Church of St. Mary and the Martyrs ever since.

Last week at least part of the Oculus opened which is part of the PATH train's new hub for Travel.
