This hole in the ceiling between the first and second floors is the reason the gallery on the second floor works. If you notice the gallery is completely cantilevered. The oculus is the reason it stands. It's all about compression here people!
The statue in the middle is the Antonio Canova statue of George Washington. The only one with him wearing roman dress and sitting.
These stained and painted glass windows are located in the 1906 extension to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, also known as The Mother Church, in Boston, Mass.
