The oculus of the Idaho state capitol is about 11 feet in diameter, and displays a canvas of sky-blue background sprinkled with gold stars. The stars on the canvas symbolizes Idaho's acceptance as the 43rd state in the Union. (Source: capitolcommission.idaho.gov/pdf/about/idaho_capitol_histo...)

Short-sightedness, or myopia, is a very common eye condition that causes distant objects to appear blurred, while close objects can be seen clearly.
It's thought to affect up to one in three people in the UK and is becoming more common.
Treatments for short-sightedness
Short-sightedness can usually be corrected effectively with a number of treatments.
The main treatments are:
Corrective lenses – such as glasses or contact lenses to help the eyes focus on distant objects
Laser eye surgery to alter the shape of the eye – this isn't usually available on the NHS and shouldn't be carried out on children, whose eyes are still developing
Artificial lens implants – where a man-made lens is permanently inserted into the eyes to help them focus correctly; these are also not usually available on the NHS

On Thursday, March 4th, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in Lower Manhattan officially opened to the public. The hub replaces the PATH train station that was destroyed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which — if you'll recall — was rather a long time ago. Indeed, over 12 years in the making, the new train station is symbol of both governmental waste and architectural excess. Its centerpiece is the Oculus, a mind-boggling glass-and-steel structure designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava to look like a dove in flight, but it actually more closely resembles a pair of ragged claws, scuttling across the sands of Lower Manhattan.
Critics have blasted the hub for its massive cost overruns ($4 billion in public money) and lack of anything resembling a traditional train station (ticket machines, clocks, maps). But its existence is significant, if only because the hub represents the type of ambitious open spaces that used to exemplify public transit in the US. Grotesquely expensive, sure. Tough on the eyes, no question. But at least we all get to share in the spectacle.

the breathtaking oculus, flanked by two beautiful hanging lights sheds an array of colors all over the floor of the dining room in the abandoned JN Adam Tuberculosis Sanatorium in perrysburg, ny. many years ago president McKinley was shot under this dome while attending the pan-am exposition in buffalo, ny in 1901 where it stood at the temple of music, but was fortunetly saved from being destroyed.

One of New York's new landmarks, the Oculus, is a white building made of steel ribs or “oculi” that stretch up from the base and meet at the top, giving it a skeletal look. It's supposed to resemble a bird in flight, but to me, it looks more like a fish tail.
Oculus is one of many that were included in the city’s plan to rebuild the World Trade Center after September 11.
Très contente de voir que le vitrail de l'Abbaye de la Fille-Dieu endommagé par la grêle en 2009 a été remplacé par une nouvelle version, encore plus colorée et intéressante que l'originale.

Happy to see that the round window of the abbaye de la Fille-Dieu, damaged by a violent hailstorm in 2009, has been replaced by a new and brighter version of the original.
With this I bid farewell to 2010 and wish you all a 2011 to fulfil all your hopes and aspirations!

one of the many arches surrounding the walls of the former dining room beneath the beautiful oculus at the JN Adams Tuberculosis Sanatorium in perrysburg, ny. i found it interesting that the paint, wallpaper and wood were all deteriorating but the lights above the arch were maintaining integrity.
