The interior of the dome was possibly intended to symbolize the arched vault of the heavens. The oculus at the dome's apex and the entry door are the only natural sources of light in the interior. Throughout the day, the light from the oculus moves around this space in a reverse sundial effect. The oculus also serves as a cooling and ventilation method. During storms, a drainage system below the floor handles the rain that falls through the oculus.

©2009 Phillip Nesmith - So I have been playing around with creating things from others work.....and trash. This image, along with my last few post is a digital image of multiple 35mm analog slides projected over each other onto a wall in my home.

The slides I have been working with are of textures, artwork found in museums around the world, architecture, etc. The collection, comprised of multiple sheets of slides were found in the trash. Lacking supplies to continue working in my darkroom due to the current economic situation I have been entertaining myself by making these projections and recording them with my DSLR.

None of this is serious. I am just really enjoying playing with the projector again. I think that It is a good thing to just play sometimes. Do you have an old projector stored away?

Oculus est une gare et un centre commercial signé par l'architecte Calatrava (New York, Etats Unis).

Transport Hub; Lower Manhattan, NYC

The Oculus at the World Trade Center is part of the newly opened PATH station. The building you see through the center windows is the Freedom Tower. I was amazed at how clean it is, but given that it's in NYC, that'll change in the next few months.

Winged dove or beached whale carcass? These are just two of the descriptions being used for the $4 billion structure that encloses the World Trade Center Transportation hub in New York.

Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, I think it is a beautiful glass and steel structure. Consider it a modern - very modern - Grand Central station update. People still gaze in awe at Grand Central and people will still gaze at this structure for decades to come.
