Cats Sleep Anywhere
Cats sleep anywhere, any table, any chair.
Top of piano, window-ledge, in the middle, on the edge.
Open drawer, empty shoe, anybody's lap will do.
Fitted in a cardboard box, in the cupboard with your frocks.
Anywhere! They don't care! Cats sleep anywhere.
The train from Exeter to Dawlish along Brunel's Railway.... probably the best railway in England.
One of my pet specialties... moving trains in the Devon landscape. Unlike previous shots this one is a single exposure. You have to View On Black to see it properly.
No doubt a few more from this set will appear very soon!

I did fall off earlier (hit a tree stump in the middle of the path while riding a Segway and taking photos... yes, I know I had that one coming!) but I do have to suffer to bring you these dynamic images. My thumb however is no longer moving at all as I had to make the choice of saving myself or my camera.... you all know how that one ends!
This photograph is a slow shutter speed shot taken from my own Segway X2 chasing through Haldon Forest Park. Despite hurting myself, this is an awesome trip which has to be experienced.

Shot taken for the Group www.flickr.com/groups/photoadayforamonth - October 2012 - A month in 31 Pictures. This is my photo for 2nd October.
We've had this box of chocolates since middle of September but I've resisted this one as I thought it might make a nice photo for the October challenge.

Rushing around today so had to resort to an iphone shot of some street art I spotted while driving in Teignmouth.
Morning has broken (almost)
This is my 2nd submission for the October 2012 A month in Pictures project.

My complete set of pictures for this challenge can be found here - MY OCTOBER 2012 SET
This picture is in stark contrast to my submission for yesterday (1#31 (Raindrops)) and shows the begining of the sunrise over Danbury and Chelmsford.
Whilst taking my first passenger of the day to the railway station I saw the beginings of the sunrise and wondered where I might be able to get a better view so decided upon the highest point I could legally get to quickly.
Therefore this shot was taken from the very top level/roof of the Meadows Multi-Storey car-park in Wharf Road - it's a fairly rushed shot due to the Taxi controller calling me over the radio and giving me a job picking up from the other side of town so I had to dash - fortunately due to my very quick visit (less than 5 minutes) I was able to exit the carpark without having to pay or smashing through the barrier 007 style !!

I went on a flying visit to Leamington Spa today and only managed to take 7 photos. 5 were rubbish, shoot from the hip style and I took 2 in the shopping centre before security shooed me away. So today I've concentrated a bit more on processing by going step by step through the raw conversion process in my Elements 10 book, and also a B&W conversion technique. So much to learn about processing.
The rest of my photos for this project will be here:
Er Paul... I don't think he's bluffing this time!

No route planned!
This is my 31st and final submission for the October 2012 A month in Pictures project.

My trusty and quite old TomTom Go500 - well battered, scratched and abused - has been dropped and fallen of its mount a few times - I've even replaced the battery after it refused to hold charge for even a few minutes - its currently held onto the suction mount with cable ties after its last un-planned detatchment from the windscreen caused the clip to break. Still works though !!!
This is a shot I thought of the other day and decided to use it for the final shot of the #31 - it pretty much sums up my plan for the October 2012 challenge - no plan at all - just go with the flow....... and I did.
Throughout the month there was a high (being published) and a low (breaking my 10-20mm lens).........

...the October Challenge is over. I found it a bit of a slog at times and struggled for inspiration but the Group members have been awesome in keeping the momentum going. Excellent effort all round guys. Thanks for joining in.
It's the 1st of November tomorrow, and that means one thing... Movember :)
Day 7 of the October challenge (which I forgot to do). Fortunately I had to take this product shot for work... so that worked out ok.

Similar to last week's shot here, last night was a rush job when I realised I hadn't taken a shot yet... Admittedly I then left it until the last minute (literally) for dramatic effect ;)

7 October. Almost a rarity... an eating/ dessert apple. The rest are nearly all cookers, cider and crab apples.

Recently I was challenged to take an abstract using movement techniques - either ICM (intentional camera movement) or Zoom Blur and I chose a scene in the Grainger Market in the centre of Newcastle, zooming into a series of pendants strung across the aisles. A couple of people commented that they would have liked to see the shoppers as the point of focus instead so I took a different shot from the same spot but pointing the camera down instead. I am amazed at the difference between the two shots and it is not even obvious that there are any flags in this scene.
I didn't necessarily achieve what I set out to do - I took loads of images and hoped to capture one similar to this but with the shopper a bit more distinct but it wasn't to be and the market was very busy so even getting this level of separation for an individual was rare.
What I like about this image is the converging lines - it's almost like a train steamed through the middle of the image with me the photographer trapped motionless inside - or perhaps a narrow platform with two trains steaming past either side.

1 October. I thought I'd start with a good old Patrick portrait. Here he is in his naural habitat... burning something! Patrick has worked on farms in Ashcombe for well over 40 years and I can't remember seeing him take a whole day off!

I picked four of these young ladies up in my Taxi and drove them into Chelmsford City centre earlier in the evening - they met up with one of their friends and were off to celebrate someones birthday and had all decided to dress like Wally from the Wheres Wally books.......
I gave them my card and they are going to email me so I can send them a copy of the picture.
Hope you all had a great night girls...........

Today's is "Witchcraft" from artist BrenBonniere's LgbtOber
A bit under the weather today but I wasn't about to deprive the world of some adorable sapphic witches. So here's a master and her apprentice
A new gate has appeared locally and it's very decorative, and colourful. This is a small section of it.
Photo 10/31 for the October picture a day challenge.
My youngest celebrated his 8th birthday today. Amongst other things he got a DPM camo jacket & trousers that he's been after for a while. They haven't been off him since. He wanted to pose with a gun but we went with folded arms instead.
I'm really missing not having two flashes at the minute, hence the shadows :-(

I'm ashamed to say I didn't get out today for the first shot of the challenge, massive well dones to everyone else who DID manage it.
I remember when we throught the world might end in 1984.... but the vintage 8210 Ford tractor from that year is still ticking.

This is a shot I've meant to do since the start of the October 2012 Challenge and today I decided to do it......
Here you see three of the lovely ladies that work in the Coop store on Market Road in Chelmsford - each day that I'm working a day shift I pop in just after 7am (when the store opens) and buy my first coffee of the day - these three happy faces always greet me with a smile and a large dose of good humoured banter (much needed until I've had my coffee !!!)
Their names from left to right are : Melanie, Anne and Linda.....
Thanks ladies.

Also using this photo for my 114 Pictures in 2014 Project, No. 93. Dog(s).
I was definitely going to do an outdoor shot for my daily photo today, but during my window of opportunity there was torrential rain. So instead I have done a photo of my friend's dog, Scrappy, a Border Terrier.

30 October. We went exploring at Lidwell Chapel this evening. The ruin is deep into the dark woods of the Luscombe Estate, choked by brambles and trees. Only one wall remains and the surrounding metal spiked railings.
This is the place where the mad monk Robert de Middlecote withdrew to in 1325 after he was accused of attempted murder. Kind monk by day, he went out in search of travellers and offered them food and shelter for the night. The travellers, exhausted, starving and reassured by seeing a monk accepted and were treated to a hot meal he had laced with a narcotic which caused them to become semi-conscious, upon which the monk then murdered them with a knife, robbed them of any valuables and then dumped their bodies into the well.
After several years, A sailor accepted the monk's hospitality but he saw the monk preparing to kill him, and pushed him down the well.
They say the ghost of Robert de Middlecote still haunts the church, trying to escape from the well. Painfully inching to near the top and then slipping back into oblivion. The ghosts of murdered women and children, have been witnessed around the ruined chapel. People have also reported hearing their screams and cries.
In the 1970's a photographer from Bristol travelled to the ruins and took some photos. When one of the photos was developed later he was shocked to discover that instead of showing the chapel in ruins it instead showed the chapel intact as it would have looked around about the 14th century. Despite serveral shots today I could only get what we saw (just about!) perhaps the paranormal only works on 35mm?
